Tonight your Miami Hurricanes beat the lights out of Virginia Tech 30-6 in Blacksburg. The Hurricanes dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage and looked like a solid team. It was a fun game to watch!
To all of U haters out there (and there are many): "Choke on it!"
To all of U real Canes fans out there: "Celebrate like there is no tomorrow!"

Duke has a very easy path to the ACCCG again. They played no one on in the Atlantic division. Need to be Pitt fans next week and gotta pull off the major upset vs FSU to get there.

When will my boy Rashawn Scott make it back to see some action?
Posted by: BEERicane | October 25, 2014 at 10:44 AM
Duke..#playnoonegetsomewhere
If only kaaya could have been here in the spring. Oh well.
Just win the games U should and I will be hopeful going forward.
If Miami stops uncs first couple of drives they will fold, so long as the U scores.

Really interesting stat. 40% of Michigan State's starters are 5th year seniors and basically all of them are upperclassmen.
Don't think we'll ever reach that point, I think we're starting to to bring in talent that needs to see the field early, but having that kind of depth and experience must be really nice.
@BruceFeldmanCFB: Little Brother? #Michigan has 12 starters who are SRs/JRs. #MichiganState: has 19 and 8 are 5th Year SRs.

I think the biggest difference between Randy's last year and what may be the undoing of Al this year is the popularity of Twitter and the number of hashtag insults. Lol.

Ryan Fines and Scott Patchan plus a lot of targets left out there.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 25, 2014 at 12:18 AM
A couple 3* guys... Don't know how much stars matter, but are you hapy w that class or do you feel some recruits you'd like to see here are slipping away. I know it's way early for recruiting, I'm just curious and am not gonna pay for a recruiting site.
Posted by: 1mg of Epi | October 25, 2014 at 01:49 AM
----------------------------------------------
Fines and Patchan are both grossly underrated, IMO, and I believe they finish as high 4* guys.
That said, there's always guys slipping away. However, there's a lot of time left to reel in the big dogs and we've got a shot with a lot of them.
If we fail at DL recruiting this year, it's completely unacceptable.

@Manny_Navarro: My story: Miami Hurricanes coach Al Golden: ‘Unselfish’ players thriving http://t.co/kGSjnilFDJ
Posted by: Go Canes | October 25, 2014 at 12:50 PM
Given this:
---------------
"If" UM wins out (including FSU):
- Ga. Tech must lose again in conference. They look very vulnerable lately, losing two straight conference games (and they still have Clemson to contend with).
- Duke must lose again in conference. Despite losing to us, they've won two straight conference games. We own the tiebreaker here. Unfortunately, Duke's schedule doesn't look too bad (Va. Tech the exception).
If we get another conference loss (FSU being the logical choice):
- Ga. Tech must lose in conference twice. That looks like a tall order given the remainder of their conference schedule, but the Coastal has been known for its wackiness.
- Duke must lose twice. This is an even taller order given that Duke's schedule is pretty easy and they are continually improving.
- Virginia, Pittsburgh, and North Carolina must lose an additional conference game besides vs. us. UVA still has a terrible time left and Pittsburgh stinks. UNC is a different matter. They were very competitive vs. Notre Dame and almost beat Ga. Tech. They have the easiest schedule remaining.
---------
...here's who to root for today and next week:
NC over UVA
Pitt over Ga. Tech
Clemson over Syracuse
Next Week:
Pitt over Duke
B.C. over Va. Tech
N.C. State over Syracuse
UVA over Ga. Tech
Some or all of this will improve our ACC Title prospects, and save Al's job.

Do you really think winning or losing the Coastal has any bearing on Golden's job this year?

I sure wish it did. Some accountability towards wins and losses would be nice. Especially for the losses we have on our record that shouldn't be there.

Go canes nahh. He will have all of next year
Posted by: laquinton | October 25, 2014 at 01:10 PM
LB.... dont thing Golden's going anywhere regardless of Ws & Ls for a number of reasons unrelated to performance. After 2015 who knows, so lets just hope it doesn't come to that. Talent level of VT notwithstanding, I think we saw some good coaching Thursday night. I'll GLADLY be the first to admit I was wrong if they keep moving in this direction.

Shannon's Contract could run through 2020. Fact is, the remaining years on Randy's contract after the year 2010 are worth about as much as the paper it was written on. He's basically guaranteed through next season only. That's why it took so long for him to sign it because he had ZERO bargaining power during the entire process. The people that run the University of Miami's financial business are no dummies. The put down Randy's numbers and basically told him, "You have not done enough win/loss wise to earn a fully guaranteed deal." Shannon's agent realized it, was running out of time, and went ALL IN on this year for escalating incentives to kick in past 2010 and beyond. It DID NOT happen and Randy's in a tight spot now (that look @ 30-17 before the PAT on the sideline said it all last week... NO 10 Win season possible)
From a previous blog. No buyout is too good for Miami.
Posted by: laquinton | October 25, 2014 at 01:22 PM
Golden is gone at the end of next year IF he has a season like the one he's had so far, if he doesn't finish strong and win the coastal this and/or next year.

We will never get em all... And that's OK. I supposes when it's all said done fancy facilities/on campus stadium might make a recruit feel sexy, but what they really want is to get to the next level. Gotta think that if they can look at the defensive scheme and player development and feel like it suits them and can take em to the NFL... they will come.
A question...and forgive me if this has been discussed before... Is it true that admin has significantly increased entrance requirements to the point that a lot of kids are disqualified? I'm not making a judgement call as to whether or not they should, just curious if they have.
Posted by: 1mg of Epi | October 25, 2014 at 01:26 PM
Our admittance standards for athletes are way, way below the regular student requirements. But as a whole we are definitely tougher to get into than just about any state school.
If I had to guess we are on a the same level as most of our private counterparts in the ACC.
Posted by: Go Canes | October 25, 2014 at 01:38 PM
1mg,
I don't have the answer to your question but a lot of people have said that's why we aren't getting Calvin Ridley, which totally pisses me off because that kid is a burner and we need more burners on this team, especially when my LOF Dorsett is playing on Sundays.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | October 25, 2014 at 01:39 PM
Watching the UVA-heels game. UNC's defense is abysmal. They're slow and can't tackle.
Posted by: Go Canes | October 25, 2014 at 01:42 PM
The problem is those elite jocks are often stupid and just get passed through the system so they can keep playing. Also, we don't really compete for the same athletes as Duke or Wake Forrest, we compete for the same guys as Florida and Auburn and LSU, etc.

I'm think most kids who care at all about their grades in highschool can get into the U.
The no effort kids who do nothing for four years then scrambles to qualify are the ones who have problems.
Posted by: Go Canes | October 25, 2014 at 01:45 PM
UNC will test the backfield of Miami.
Posted by: laquinton | October 25, 2014 at 01:54 PM
We've lost a lot of kids the last 5-10 years because of our admission standards. Kids that were committed and couldn't qualify, AND kids who we never even offered because we knew they couldn't get in. A lot of times when U here angry fans asking why we haven't offfered a stud, this is the reason. That, or they had off field issues that weren't public.
And yes, rumor is that neither Ridley brother can qualify at UM.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 25, 2014 at 01:56 PM
Thanks Go Canes... Answers my question.
So maybe we lose a kid here or there, but if they can't get their sh!t together in high school they probably won't keep their eligibility anyway. I believe we have a case of this going on now w AQM.

@CanesWarningFS: Miami QB commit Dwayne Lawson (@dlaw95) led his team to a 55-49 win yesterday with 453yds & 4TDs passing as well as 153yds & 3TDs rushing

Posted by: 1mg of Epi | October 25, 2014 at 01:59 PM
1mg, AQM's issues are not academic from what I'm told. Only the scuffle he got into with his former roommate where he beat the crap out of him.

Posted by: Go Canes | October 25, 2014 at 02:08 PM
State schpols especially FSU HAVE MUCH LOWER admission standards. At one point they had something like almost 50% of their players listed as special needs/ learning disabled.
Posted by: SOUP | October 25, 2014 at 02:20 PM
Oh ok! I don't know why I thought he had academic issues. Yea, if he's still here have to assume he will be here next year.
FSU was listing half their players special needs?!?! What a horrible insult to special needs people everywhere lol!
Posted by: 1mg of Epi | October 25, 2014 at 02:29 PM
The put them down as having learning disabilities. I think we did that with Frank Gore, but its all on the up and up.

If we don't put 50 on UNC that's going to be sad. This D is terrible!

1. Cortel Jenkins was a great find! Great at the point of attack.
2. If Gus's confidence continues he could be a really good back. Starting to run behind his pads and is not going down with the first contact.
3. O-line is really starting to gel.
Posted by: Da U N Houston | October 25, 2014 at 03:09 PM
Gore was severely dyslexic.
I can tell you this fir sure: Gore worked as hard as anybody on his academics at the U. That's well known. I'm not saying he was going to be a rocket scientist, but the kids tried.
To get into the U, all you have to do is give a halfass effort in high school. That's all. It's the guys that never crack a book, have other people do their work, don't take all the required classes (scrambling at the end - you've seen it before), and are systemically passed and allowed to do zero academics, that have trouble getting in. Those are the guys that end up at WVU or FSU
A regular student at the U will need a minimum 1350 SAT (3 part around 2,000), GPA around 3.7 minimum (non inflated, no A's above 4.0) to be considered.
Posted by: Lurker | October 25, 2014 at 03:12 PM
UM accepts only about 10% of its over 20,000 applicants every year.
Posted by: Go Canes | October 25, 2014 at 03:26 PM
Thanks Ohio, GC and Lurker... I've heard the complaint before and often wondered if it had any merit.
