@InsideTheArc: Duke Johnson: 286 total yards last night. Virginia Tech: 262. That's ridiculous.

Talk about the game and the BIG win, not each other. Thanks!

Just football, CR.
Anything can happen. Look at last night. I was one of the few that wasn't brimming with optimism. I was wrong. So what. Now I feel anything can happen. Last night proved it.

I cant believe that game that Duke had. What a game! And I do agree that had we played like that all season we would be undefeated or 5-1.
Posted by: SOUP | October 24, 2014 at 04:26 PM
What would be the 1?

"Miami and the 364 rushing yards are the most yards allowed by a Frank Beamer coached team dating to 1987 when he first took over the Virginia Tech job."

True Soup. Hopefully they are all well rested and ready for UNC. go Canes !!!
Posted by: laquinton | October 24, 2014 at 04:33 PM
I can live with the Louisville loss, freshman QB making his first start on the road at night against a hellacious D and the Nebraska game was a defensive cluster f.
But the GT game. Oh that GT game. That one really sucked.
Kaaya's pick on their 10 that potentially stopped us from going up 21-7, the fake punt that cost us getting the ball back with 5 minutes left before the half, Jones dropping the potential first down inside the 10 and of course the 3rd and 17 conversion.
I'd love to have that game back.

Soup, can you do something about the people starting stuff and then running to you and blaming it on other people? Seriously

@mattyports: Golden very high on Raphael Kirby's play right now. Playing MLB, WLB and producing. "I can't say enough about the direction he's going."
@mattyports: Golden: "Didn't miss many tackles. We fit [gaps] pretty good. ... Pass rush was good, wish we could have finished it w/ a couple more sacks"

So far the extended forecast for the UNC game is a high of only 80 BUT rain chance is 50%.
Ugh!

It's selfish, but can we get a banner to say, "STAY DUKE STAY"?
Posted by: TonyCane | October 24, 2014 at 07:00 PM
Now THAT is a great idea for a banner!!
Posted by: Go Canes | October 24, 2014 at 07:27 PM
Duke would be foolish to come back. The risk/reward is not even debatable. He will be able to set his family up for life with the money he stands to make, assuming he can finish the season uninjured.
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | October 24, 2014 at 07:51 PM
I'll be selfish as a fan. I want 1 more year of Duke Johnson. Kaaya keeps improving, D keeps improving and have a senior breaking Ottis Andersons all-time rushing record would be a wonderful memory to have.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 24, 2014 at 07:53 PM
^^ That said, I wouldn't fault Duke 1 ounce for leaving if he's projected well by the advisory committee the NFL has.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 24, 2014 at 07:54 PM
Deon Bush is putting together a pretty good year, third on the team in tackles, tied for ACC lead in forced fumbles with 3, and making plays from the safety position. Just looking for more from the other safety position. Grace played like a future star in the making.
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | October 24, 2014 at 08:07 PM
So Duke has nothing left to prove individually. The guy is a beast and SHOULD collect some hardware at the end of the year, of course he plays for Miami and not Ohio State so he probably wont. The ONLY reason Duke should come back is to play for a big team season, but no one will ever say Duke didnt win at The U when the guy is the one of the biggest reasons we win what we do. Selfishly, I want Duke to go pro and have a 15 year career with my Chargers. We know how to use a back like Duke in San Diego. Right now I say 5% chance Duke comes back, but yeah, I get the whole WANTING him to come back thing, what's not to love watching that kid in Orange and Green?
Posted by: The Dude | October 24, 2014 at 08:10 PM
Denzel is without a doubt the player we will miss most next year. I hope my Chargers draft him also. If he somehow slips to the second round the team that gets him will be getting one hell of a steal. You have to have players that make turnovers. Perryman hits so hard he often knocks the ball out.
Posted by: The Dude | October 24, 2014 at 08:16 PM
Don't worry, this kid named Joseph Yearby is going to pick right up where Duke left off, I promise! Plus he'll have some backup! Let Duke make his money, he deserves it!

VERY Much appreciated.

WWIM...tell us more about what U know about Yearby or is it just watching him on the field this year? I was sad Yeaby missed the game but it did give my LOF player Gus "The Bus" Edwards some quality playing time and he came through BIG!

Posted by: WWIN | October 24, 2014 at 08:31 PM
I'd be very surprised if Yearby "picks up right where Duke left off" if Duke leaves. Not saying I don't have very high hopes and praise for Yearby, but he's small. Needs a big off season in the weight room to handle the load Duke is carrying right now.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 24, 2014 at 08:33 PM
We have young studs coming in. RB is a position we don't need to worry a outs.
I'll actually be pissed if Duke came back.
There is such a thing as too much loyalty. Go get paid young man.

No inside info, just from his highlights from last year and seeing him this year. That dude can stop and juke on a dime! He has more moves than Duke, but Duke has him on break away speed and that "mean stiff arm"! Plus I can see at least 1 of these 3 Scarlet, Williams, and Walton contributing.

Duke 5'9 206
Yearby 5'9 192
So 8 lbs difference

Barely, but it took Duke 2 years and a broken ankle to bulk up to where he is now
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 24, 2014 at 08:58 PM
But hey, maybe Yearby can gain weight faster. Everyone is different.
Btw, I wasn't saying ANYTHING about Yearby's skill. Kids got the goods. He does NOT have that stiff arm tho. Not many do. That thing was NFL good when he was in HS
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 24, 2014 at 09:00 PM
I believe Duke was 189 when he came and people said he was too small.
Duke had a good year every year with us if you ask me, except for his sophomore year being cut short. And before his injury he was carving up fsu last year!

So stormtrooper unis forever? Thoughts? Anyone?
Posted by: The Dude | October 24, 2014 at 12:36 AM
I like em, but they don't look as good with black socks and black cleats. I would like em better with all white everything!
Posted by: WWIM | October 24, 2014 at 12:43AM
I love the StormTrooper uniforms!
Posted by: NY Trooper | October 24, 2014 at 08:29 AM
The StormTrooper is slick..
IMHO tho - don't f__k with the helmet. It is an icon and we do not have very good luck with the other versions.
I am also not a fan of the pumpkin, the pickle or the candy corn versions of the uni's either.

I bet if we played Louisville again, we would beat them.
Posted by: raizecane | October 24, 2014 at 12:04 AM
I will second that - I think we could turn PJS as quiet as Blacksburg.

Even as well as this game went, the kickoff coverage still has me holding my breath each time. All year long there has been way too much open space for the opposing return man.
