Sure, everybody knows that Jim Kelly the QB is a Miami Hurricane football legend. But did you know that Jim Kelly the man is one tough guy?
Jim Kelly fought his heart out for the Hurricanes and led the team to many victories during his career. But the biggest victory he ever accomplished in his life was beating cancer this year.
Kelly will serve as the Grand Marshall for the UM homecoming weekend and as honorary team captain during the homecoming game against North Carolina on November 1 at Sun Life Stadium.
In celebration of the #KellyTough weekend events all Hurricane fans are asked to wear green to the game in support of cancer survivors.
You can buy your official #KellyTough T-shirt at AllCanes in person or purchase it on-line to be shipped to you before the game.
Jim Kelly the QB fought his heart out for the Hurricanes and won many battles on the field.
But Jim Kelly the man fought against cancer and won the biggest battle of his life off the field.
#KellyTough

Gotta love Jim Kelly. One of my favorite Canes of all time! And let's be honest, Jim was the huge recruiting get that really started it all for the programs rise to dominance. So we definitely all owe him great debt of gratitude for picking Miami when he could have gone anywhere else country and in doing so laid the groundwork for the five national titles to come. A great man and I'm so glad he's healthy and were going to honor him for homecoming.

Kaaya could be considered for freshman on O, but to me our best freshman has been Joe Yearby. Brad may need a few extra points for playing such a difficult position.

CANESPACE RULES: LAST REMINDER
1. State your opinons, thoughts or ideas and move on. Arguing back and forth for days and weeks on end over the same old ground serves no purpose other then to clutter the blog with a bunch of childish nonsense.
2. Don't be a blog hog, share "The Space" with others. This is NOT your personal blog or Facebook page. It is a public open forum for ALL to enjoy without fear of being attacked or bullied or bashed. If you must attack ideas, but not people.
3. Name calling and bashing has no place on the blog. Do not confuse disagreeing with personal attacks. Some of you do and that and it is wrong and will not be tolerated. Your comments will be deleted and you will be banned IF you keep it up.
I am tired of babysitting the blog and I am tired of some bloggers (U know who U are) attacking anyone who might think or say something positive about the team, coaches or players. Calling someone a douche or a turd sandwhich is BEYOND childish and ridiculous and will not be tolerated. If you want to be negative you can do so but do not infringe upon someone else's right to be positive IF they so choose.
Please people, get a life, get a grip and let it go. It is just college football, and yes while we are ALL passionate about our Miami Hurricanes, get some perspective.
Some of you need to let go of trying to prove that U are right all the time, the only one that can be right and the only one that will ever be right. That is just childish and ridiculous.
Harry Miller said it best the other day: "If a 6 year old can see it then why can't you?"

^^^ Forgot about Braxton. He's good and has a bright future but he's not a huge contributor right now.
Posted by: The Dude | October 14, 2014 at 06:41 PM
Me personally, I am able to be upset with everything that everyone is upset at, there is a lot, AND also be positive enough to see the good things, there are also those as well. Regurgitating the same negative posts over and over has bored me. It's much more fun getting the "haters" rustled with positivity, so easy too.
I also like calling out two-faced post. For example, someone says they think Butch had a pretty good record at UNC, he won 28 games in 4 years, while at the same time saying these past 4 are terrible, 26 games so far. Couple people have used that one.

This is really turning out to be a really productive freshman class. BB will start getting worked in more because we haven't been a great third down team, and I see him being worked in more in possession type situations.

Quick question for everyone on canespace? Do you think there is any chance that the university will hire Condalisa Rice for it's next president? Obviously I would love to have her because she loves football, is extremely smart, expects the best out of people and has a ton of connections. So what do you all think canespace?
Posted by: Nick | October 14, 2014 at 07:03 PM
Others on Twitter suggested that former President George W. Bush should be the next UM president — or perhaps Condoleezza Rice. Also receiving at least one vote: R& B musician George Clinton, of Parliament-Funkadelic fame.

Condy? I really like her, she's very impressive as a person and in terms of her long list of accomplishments.
The question are, first would she be willing to leave a top 5 university, and world wide renowned in terms of academic prestige, for a promotion to president of a top 50 i situation? Her comfort level might be on the west coast in that type of environment, rather than here.
The second question I would have is does she have the experience or skills necessary to be a college president? That includes countless hours socializing, fundraising, and representing the school. I think she could do it, but you have to really want to do something like that. Does she? Also, why hasn't she been a candidate for other college presidencies?
This is a crucial hiring decision, done by committee, where several candidates will be evaluated in private. It's also important to remember that footbsll is only a small fraction of what a college president is about.
I'd love her as the face of the school, but it's a complicated question for which there is no easy answer like, "hey, let's go get her". Just doesn't work that way. Shalala did an amazing job for the university, probably one of the best tenures of any university president in the last ten years considering what she's accomplished. The football program has been a disappointment in the last ten years, but there have been so many reasons for that if you think it through. While, she can certainly shoulder a portion of the responsibility for that, her accomplishments far outweigh this one negative in her role as president of an academic institution.

Posted by: raizecane | October 14, 2014 at 07:51 PM
Think it's going to be tough to get Rice. Not impossible but tough.
She can basically write her own ticket to any post she wants and this isn't a transitional position. Accepting this job is a long term commitment I wonder if she'd be willing to make.

Are we still talking about Condi after I seconded the nomination for George Clinton and P-Funk? You guys need to get your priorities straight.
The Iraq War isnt Condi's shining moment. But its not like Saddam wasn't violating several of the conditions of the agreement we made after the Persian Gulf war. Politics aside, I think she is a remarkable person and she loves football.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | October 14, 2014 at 07:57 PM
If Condy Rice is well accepted at one of the most liberal and left leaning universities in the US, well, they're all that way, but this one even more so, then I don't think her politics will be an issue. Just like they didn't end up being an issue, with someone like Shalala, whose on the other spectrum. It's only about whether you do the job or not. Politics is not the issue here at all.
Posted by: Lurker | October 14, 2014 at 07:58 PM
Beamer hasn't taken VT to the same "promised land" that we have come to expect in the great State of Florida. I'm not sure Al will be here more than 2 years, let alone the 2 decades that Beamer has been at VT.
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | October 14, 2014 at 08:00 PM
Raize, it's possible if he recruits really strongly, and if outside events (FSU sanctions) transpire. Miami is more talented than NU and LU, but not exceedingly so. The margin was s bit better with G Tech. IF Golden could get Miami to an FSU level of talent, Miami will do to mid level competition what it is currently doing to the Cincinattis of college football. The question would still remain what would happen if we face a top flight program.
