Sure, everybody knows that quarterback Jim Kelly is a Miami Hurricane football legend. But did you know that Jim Kelly the man is one tough guy?
Jim Kelly fought his heart out for the Hurricanes and led the team to many victories during his career. But the biggest victory he ever accomplished in his life was beating cancer this year.
Kelly will serve as the Grand Marshall for the UM homecoming weekend and as honorary team captain during the homecoming game against North Carolina on November 1 at Sun Life Stadium.
In celebration of the #KellyTough weekend events all Hurricane fans are asked to wear green to the game in support of cancer survivors.
You can buy your official #KellyTough T-shirt at AllCanes in person or purchase it on-line to be shipped to you before the game.
Jim Kelly the QB fought his heart out for the Hurricanes and won many battles on the field.
But Jim Kelly the man fought against cancer and won the biggest battle of his life off the field.

Because Manziel's family, and TAMU, put 2 law firms on the NCAA's @$$...Gurley only had 1, the 1 that UGA provided.
Posted by: CaneRock | October 29, 2014 at 11:19 AM
IOWs, Manziel's people had the bread to hire their own lawyer, Gurley didn't.
Posted by: CaneRock | October 29, 2014 at 11:22 AM
Saw on Twitter that Olivier Vernon got six games for taking $1200, Gurley four for $3000 and Manziel got a half for God knows how much.
NCAA the biggest sham and fraud I've ever seen just get a pass day after day, year after year.
Posted by: Go Canes | October 29, 2014 at 11:43 AM
The overwhelming lesson the NCAA is this:
Do things the right way, cooperate, self-report, and support the status quo of their rule enforcement: get punished like a M'fer (Gurley, the U, etc)
Lie, deny, deflect, stonewall, hire a bunch of lawyers, don't cooperate, and fight tooth and nail ( Manziel, Jameis, etc): get barely a slap on the wrist.
The NCAA is basically encouraging non-cooperation. They are basically dead.

IF the new commit thing is true, I believe it's this fella.I don't think he will play CB in college.... Where ever that is.

If he has a commitable offer (I'd be surprised), and we're accepting that committment (surprised again), I don't think he plays CB for us.

Kerr has a good athletic pedigree...His pops is from Miami, played ball at UF.
Posted by: CaneRock | October 29, 2014 at 01:15 PM
I'm not saying he's not any good. Not at all. Kid can play. BUT, we have much better CB's within that state that we should be getting.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | October 29, 2014 at 01:17 PM
"That state" being Florida, of course. Not Alabama.

July 22nd:
Colleges have neither stopped nor gotten enough of Michael Jackson.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound defensive back from Spain Park High School picked up his first offer from a Southeastern Conference school last week. In fact, both LSU and Georgia offered him a scholarship on the same day.
"It was real surprising," Jackson says. "You don't expect those two to be your first SEC offers. It was real eye-opening."
Jackson got both of the offers while at an Alabama summer camp. Georgia coaches told him they "liked everything I bring to the table and I'm perfect for their secondary." Alabama coaches liked Jackson too, though they haven't offered him a scholarship yet. He expects to hear from Alabama coaches this week on whether his camp performance warranted an offer. Alabama already has four defensive secondary commits and 19 total for its class of 2015, meaning spots are very limited going forward.
Jackson recently competed at the National Select 7-on-7 tournament in Hoover. His high school didn't win the tournament, but he looked good in coverage in what is generally just a passing drill. Some colleges have told Jackson he is too slow or too big to be a college cornerback, but he looked strong enough to hold his own at that position last weekend.
Jackson doesn't have a Top 5 or list of favorites yet, though UGA and LSU could be in good shape.
"I want to stay in the SEC," he says. "It feels good to see that the SEC is looking at me."
The Spain Park defensive back might visit South Carolina later this week. He expects to decide his official visits list at the end of the summer. He previously told AL.com that he wants to announce his college decision on his birthday Jan. 10.

Miami Hurricanes Linebacker Denzel Perryman finally has a Support Cast
By Jerry Steinberg, www.stateoftheu.com
Everyone knows that Denzel Perryman is a beast.
Perryman has made his mark in the ACC and the country for 4 years now, with spectacular hits and solid all-around play. But it hasn't been enough to get Miami's defense out of the depths of mediocrity, mostly because he did not have the best supporting cast around him.
Is that finally changing?
The Butkus Award semifinalist may finally have the support, particularly at the LB position, to make a mark and not end up overlooked by the unit's shortcomings.
Which players are making plays around "The President?"
For one, speedy sophomore Jermaine Grace is getting better and better every week.
The 6'1 212 pound missile from Miramar H.S. has accumulated two sacks (including a huge one on third down in the 1st quarter Vs Virginia Tech on Thursday), 36 tackles, and 4.5 big TFL this season. Grace was also named the ACC Co-Linebacker of the Week after Miami’s 30-6 win over Virginia Tech, in which he had the aforementioned sack, and recovered 2 third quarter fumbles.
He may not have the size you look for in an every down LB, but he has made his presence known with blitzes and heady play.
After a career high 8 tackles Vs Cincinnati, Miami Head Coach Al Golden explained Grace's recent success,
"His preparation has been better, his maturity and poise has been better, his confidence and being more vocal in the meeting rooms, to exhibit his confidence, to show that he knows what he’s doing and that he’s confident and that he can bring that to the game. All of those things are starting to happen."
When Raphael Kirby came to UM, he too was a bit undersized. Now a chiseled 6'1 238 pounds, the junior from Stone Mountain, Ga is finally starting to match his work in the weight room with on field production.
After a quiet first two seasons in Coral Gables, Kirby has started all 8 games this year, wracking up 32 tackles, 2 TFL's, and 2 INTs as well (including the game sealer Vs Cincinnati).
Al Golden said that the success and leadership of Kirby is helping both Perryman and Grace,
"Raphael Kirby is playing really good football. He's practicing hard and his preparation is improved, I'm happy for Kirb. And Grace is learning a lot of from Denzel and Kirb. I think if you ask those two the biggest difference is in how they prepare. And it's helping them play faster. No doubt about it, it takes away from the load on Denzel."
And also among the most pleasant surprises on the season, is another OLB, in Thurston Armbrister. The senior leads the way for the Hurricanes with 5 sacks.
With Armbrister, Grace, and Kirby all stepping up, Miami finally has a LB crew that isn't anonymous and ineffective minus Perryman.
There have still been some serious bumps in the road (GT and Nebraska run defense certainly comes to mind), and perhaps the 15th spot nationally in team defense (319 ypg allowed) is a bit misleading, but even the most skeptical of Miami fans has to admit the D at minimum has more play makers.
One thing is for sure, if UM hopes to finish the season strong, Grace, Kirby, and Armbrister need to continue making plays around Perryman, starting this weekend Vs North Carolina.

Ohio_Cane...as far as offers are concerned, I don't even take what those recruiting sites say as gospel anymore. Remember that kid I told you about yesterday, who said that Shaw was an "a-hole"...well He told me He had a UM offer, but none of the sites that I checked showed a UM offer. Kid was the whole package, He had the character, grades, & the football ability. IMO, He could've gotten PT as SS last season, and possibly have been a starter this season.

AAU has taken over high school basketball. D1 coaches place more emphasis on recruiting players on AAU teams, and maxpreps and other recruiting websites list AAU teams as well as high schools for each prospects. It's crazy
