Your Miami Hurricanes beat the Cincinnati Bearcats in convincing fashion on Saturday at Sun Life Stadium. The Hurricanes scored 55 points against a quality opponent on a surprisingly scorching yet lovely Fall afternoon in Miami.
On a day when not many fans showed up the final score was UM 55, Cincy 34.
The UM offense roared to life behind a powerful running game led by Duke Johnson and a quick strike passing attack that featured Phillip Dorsett. The Hurricanes amassed 621 yards on the day, 335 of which came on the ground.
Johnson was simply spectacular as he ran over, around and through the weak Bearcat defense on just 10 carries for 162 yards and 1 TD for an eye-catching 16 yard average. Even better news for Miami fans is that he was joined by quickly developing Freshman Joe Yearby who added 113 yards of his own.
Johnson and Yearby combined to run for 275 yards against Tommy Tubberville's swiss cheese defense. We are almost certain that this turn of events made the well-hydrated young man seen below very happy.
But it was Gus "The Bus" Edwards (my LOF pick) who added the cherry on top as he accounted for another 86 yards and an incredible TD run of his own. To put it in perspective, UM simply out-manned and out-gained Cincy 621 to 422 yards during the contest.
The consistently improving UM QB Brad Kaaya was 17/24 for 286 yards and 3 touchdowns. One TD pass went to TE Clive Walford but it was Phillip Dorsett that was the difference maker in the game.
Dorsett went off for 143 yards and two TDs on just three catches. If you do the math that is a 47/6 yard/catch average! The speedy Dorsett scored on receptions of 79 and 28 yards respectively as he left Bearcat defenders looking at each other and saying: "What was that blur that just went by?"
Some fans appeared caught by surprise at the Hurricanes' offensive firepower.
The UM defense dominated the game and held the Bearcats to just 27 points (7 was scored by the Cincy Defense). Tyriq McCord added to the 2014 highlight reel as he returned a interception 46 yards for a pick six. The UM defense held the Bearcats to just 67 yards rushing on the day.
Mark D'Onofrio called a masterful game. He was brilliant at putting players in position to make plays as evidenced by McCord's INT return for touchdown. It was like taking candy from a baby it was so easy!
If Coach D'Onofrio keeps improving his play calling, tweeks his scheme based on the opponent and gets his players to perform at a high level, then there is no limit to this team's success on defense.
CONVINCINGLY 1ST!

I'll tell you what I was convinced of. I saw the worst two defenses I've seen all year.

Al was convincingly pissed when they called Kirby for that facemask.

D'No is right outside your house that's why.
Posted by: SOUP | October 12, 2014 at 02:19 AM
Lol SOUP. You crack me up.
The win against Cincy was key to becoming bowl eligible. We still need 2 more and they will probably have to come from UNC, Pitt or Virginia. If we drop 2 of those 3 games that's not very good momentum going into what may very well be Golden's last year.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | October 12, 2014 at 02:20 AM
I'm not sure but maybe some of the more veteran posters on here can help me out. Was this article like a joke or something. Because Cinci is most definitely not a quality opponent and D'nofrio most definitely didn't call a masterful game. We gave up almost 500 yards in offense to a hurt QB and under matched group of five team that probably would lose to Ark st. This article has to be a prank right?

Tongue-in-cheek is a figure of speech used to imply that a statement or other production is humorously or otherwise not seriously intended, and it should not be taken at face value. The facial expression typically indicates that one is joking or making a mental effort.
By 1842, the phrase had acquired its contemporary meaning, indicating that a statement was not meant to be taken seriously.

Thanks for the welcome WINN. I don't like to think I'm a hater, just a realist. But if not being sold any more fools gold from this piss poor admin at the U and Golden himself, Then if haters is what they call us on here then I'm proud to be one. I love the U only second to my own family and can stand for this terrible product no more! We the fans and the community deserve better. And like I said, if that is being a hater, then a hater I proudly am!

Soup - what was the announced attendance for today?
Posted by: raizecane | October 12, 2014 at 02:59 AM
Well like I said I said Soup, I don't like the term Hater because it's puts such a negative light on things but I just can't support Al Golden anymore. I've lost all belief in the mans ability to lead us back to prominence. So I guess that makes me a hater. Goodnight canespace, talk to you all mañana.

Our Canes needed this off week badly. Seven straight weeks of games. This team needed a break. Let's get healthy and prepare for Virginia Tech.

Did I miss the obligatory GC post detailing how many points other teams scored this weekend? Or is that just when Al and No'd play a top 50 team?

I am surprised. I have seen more people at HS title games.

VA if we were undefeated there would have been about 15-20,000 more in the stands.
That's about it.
