TonyCane provided us with this informative breakdown of what the Miami Hurricanes need to do to fix their performance on the field. So here we go...
Flash-forward to now and on paper, the 2014 Canes are only incrementally more talented than last year's squad. Which was the worst on paper since the 1990s. However my concern is twofold:
1) Even at the current talent level, we were better on paper than any team on our schedule except FSU, and on par with Va Tech.
2) The team is relatively unchanged from a year ago. The key variants are some changes in the OL and starting a true freshmen quarterback. But the defense essentially returned intact, and should have shown continued progress.
Perhaps the considerably harder schedule in 2014 is a factor. Still, this is a team that has declined in offensive production and should be better on defense, yet neither has taken place. So then, we have to ask why?
Year, Average Points For, Average Points Against (first 7 games):
2007: 24-21
2008: 33-24
2009: 30-24
2010: 30-18
2011: 29-21
2012: 28-32
2013: 40-18
2014: 31-24
So, what do those stats tell you about the team's recent performance?
And, what can be done to fix it in the short term?
Uno!

Dude Jr was a beast always on the field sideline to sideline!
He left way too early, Assassin gone from diabetes great olayers. Would you not love to have a Tatum and a Jr on the field for us? Serious concensus All Americans serious hitters tacklers. I remember borh from college days..wow!
Not enamoured with either QB ND vs FSU.
Goulson cheated in school, which is bad. Famous Jameis rag head jamima is a rapist thief liar dumbass who probably does not have to cheat cause the idiot does not know what a class is.
I am not an entitlement guy who thinks everyone has a right to college education..not if you WON'T do the work right.
Best case scenario both get Tatumized....their dumbazz gets knocked out. Couldnt happen to two finer guys...despise both and both programs!

As I was saying over on the last blog...
The only evidence that would have either convicted Winston or proved his innocence was deleted. The defense attorney got to those two "witnesses" before anyone else. So what happened to that video?
And doesn't FSU have an interim pres right now? That sure is a tough job right now for sure. Feds in one ear, athletic department in the other.

"Rag head jamima?" Hmmmmmm...
Posted by: usagainsttheworld | October 16, 2014 at 08:03 AM
Kirk Herbstreet says Winston has done a few wrong things but not as much as the media has made it out to be. Says Jimbo knows and has to stand by his player. Jimbo is not a reputable guy, at a bad rep school.l I guess if there is no evidence to prove it you have to go wirh it, but I disagree with he has done nothing wrong. Records show FSU and cops covered the rape stuff, he knows he stole the crab legs he did not forget, he yelled that vulgar outburst, so figure it out.
Us, before you start accusing, I clarify. My QB eats waffles each morning before school. He says Winston looks like the lady on the syrup bottle with the kerchief....Aunt Jamima....he calls him rag head jamima and now many of my kids do....they think its funny, they think he is a liar and cheater, and a jerk. By the way....
He and his buddies are black.....this is their joke...my QBs dad teases him that he needs a rag to look like Winston and they think it is a hoot. These are 13-14 year olds joking ...they joke me about being an ild white man for coaching shorts, they say I should get
them in plaid instead of black. I laugh at them as they are my guys having fun. Don't read into everything so deep...they are just young crazy good kids.

Miami Football: Phillip Dorsett on Track to Join Exclusive Club:
Despite reeling in just 16 passes through seven games, Phillip Dorsett is on track to join an exclusive Miami Hurricanes club.
The 'Canes have a history of NFL-caliber receivers donning the orange and green, but the senior wideout may attain something Michael Irvin, Reggie Wayne, Santana Moss and other top names never accomplished.
Only four receivers in program history have ever tallied 1,000 yards in a single campaign: Eddie Brown in 1984, Andre Johnson in 2002, Leonard Hankerson in 2010 and Allen Hurns last year.
As of this writing, Dorsett is averaging 78.6 yards per game, which works out to 1,021 for the season. In addition to 1,000 being a feasible plateau, Miami's remaining schedule favors Dorsett's chances to reach it.

VA--Justify it however you like --and you are not 13 or 14 years old. It's wrong. I'm sure you can find another way to dogg him. Or not.
Posted by: usagainsttheworld | October 16, 2014 at 09:00 AM
Sorry you are offended, it kids; I apologize for using it guess I have heard it so much around them that I did not think about it in the adult world.
That being said, I think it is obvious the guy may be talented on the field, but I do not think he has been very smart with his decisions. Thought by now he would learn, but when your team, coach, school, and administration allow you to do these things you keep doing them. Not alot out there to prove the latest, but I think it is pretty obvious.
Fisher is worse than Bowden regarding denial, he just keeps living a lie.

These guys are charting every single play (only have Duke game so far). Pretty cool stuff.
Charting the Miami Hurricanes: An Introduction:
Some of the most common complaints among Miami Hurricanes fans are “the coaches need to blitz more” or “why are they calling zone running plays”. Generally these comments come from a game that has a lack of pass rush, or in a pivotal situation a certain run play was unsuccessful. That is not to say that there was a lack of blitzes called, or a certain run play is not as successful as another type however. To know for certain though, an in depth analysis of stats is required. While there are certain specific stats available, there is a lack of stats to answer these questions. To get these stats, every game for the Hurricanes this season was charted. Using this data, a fairly clear picture is painted for how the Canes do in certain situations and against certain plays. It can also show how individual players are performing.
Below is what an average line of data looks like for an individual play.

The JW case is another one that sounds odd to me. Her BAL that night was .004, no drugs were found in her system...so as far as substances go, there's nothing there that would indicate all these memory lapses she was having. And why wouldn't she tell the DA who her BF was...

"According to the official documents from the case, a swab revealed that the second DNA donor was a man named Jamal Roberts. Some media outlets are reporting that Roberts is a collegiate football player at another school. LBS has been unable to confirm these reports."
"Meggs said in his press conference that the DNA from the third party belonged to the accuser’s boyfriend, though he noted that the boyfriend refused to speak with investigators. Meggs also said that the accuser acknowledged having sex with her boyfriend."

Many are saying Winston didnt steal the crab legs. That it was a sweetheart deal and the employees werent supposed to report it. I heard ESPN guys Jorge Sedano was one dismissing everything but the rape as college kid stuff. WRONG!!! Sorry Jorge. This isnt 1985 or Animal House or some sh!t. Shooting bb guns at eachother on campus gets you expelled in 2014. Jumping on a table in the SUB and yelling out BS gets you suspended at any reputable university in 2014. Stop enabling this kid. He is what he is, a piece of sh!t human.

There is an actuarial theory which states that frequency is the greatest indicator of future severity.
In other words, many small incidents are usually a precursor for a later large one.
Winston appears to be the poster child for this.
It's only a matter of time before he does something no one can cover up.
Posted by: Go Canes | October 16, 2014 at 10:24 AM
I want it to be done right; if he is guilty they need to prove it. It looks suspicious; I think he has gotten to where many others go...entitled to misbehave. That does not work.

Posted by: Nick | October 16, 2014 at 12:22 PM
I'm not saying he should or will be convicted of anything. There are, however, multiple incidents with him besides the one he wasn't charged with.
Think I saw at least 3-4, and it's been less than two years.
Posted by: Go Canes | October 16, 2014 at 12:24 PM
CaneRock- what difference does it make? Honestly, her sex life has zero, zip, NADA to do with whether she was sexually assaulted by another guy. We know Winston had sex with her. We know the Trailerhassee and FSU police did everything they could to make sure he had information to prepare a defense than any non-FSU player would have had. And now we know his attorney is slut-shaming the accuser. All facts point towards guilt IMO.

Winston has done enough to have earned a lengthy suspension from many schools. Most schools wouldn't have taken two years to initiate a conduct investigation after the tape allegations of one of their own students. But this is FSU, and they really don't care about doing the right thing.
Like I've said before, nothing will happen to him. He'll get through the season, declare for the draft, and get drafted in the first round.
I hope I'm wrong, but experience tells me I'm probably right.

After reading that article, let's give Golden until 2019 to see what he can do! It took Mullen 6yrs to get Miss State turned around so Golden would at least need 9yrs considering the "Cloud" took 3yrs away.
Posted by: WWIN | October 16, 2014 at 01:54 PM
I didn't post that to defend Golden, but to point out how the majority of Mullen's thoughts revolve around how emotionally invested these coaches are. Kind of disputes the carpetbagger, ponzi schemer, used car salesman, con artist, wants to get fired, just cashing a check, Jim Jones cult leader and mass murderer references I've seen on here.
Nothing I or anyone else here posts will determine what happens to any of our coaches.
