Angel Rodriguez scored 24 points, none bigger than those that came on a falling-down, hand-in-the-face 3-pointer with 16 seconds remaining, and Miami overcame a 15-point deficit to upset No. 8 Florida 69-67 on Monday night.

The Hurricanes (2-0) scored 48 points in the second half as Rodriguez took over. The former Kansas State guard hit three consecutive 3-pointers that helped Miami take the lead with 1:45 left.
His free throw tied it with 1:13 remaining. But his fifth 3 of the game was the shot that ended Florida's school-record, 33-game winning streak at home.

Who knew? Well, well, well...looky here:
The Bears have hired Clint Hurtt to be their new assistant defensive line coach and notified Michael Sinclair that he will not return for the 2014 season.
Hurtt was previously the defensive line coach at the University of Louisville and announced in a statement Thursday that he was leaving for an NFL job.
“My ambition is to build a career in the NFL. I made a mark in recruiting and coaching at the collegiate level, but I think I can improve my career and begin a new one in the NFL,” Hurtt said in that statement.
Hurtt joins Paul Pasqualoni (defensive line) and Reggie Herring (linebackers) as new additions to the Bears’ coaching staff. Like the previous two additions, Hurtt has experience coaching multiple defensive fronts. Louisville ran a 3-3-5 defense, which former head coach Charlie Strong has become known for.

To think we almost left in the second half right before Angel went off. They still need a bigger body in the paint.

Larranaga is the truth. I live very close to George Mason campus and followed him closely. He is probably the nicest guy you could ever meet and he is very like able. Beating Florida is a sign to me. I have been bemoaning the loss to FSU too much. Here is a wonderful win to celebrate and I shall enjoy it alot. Thanks Jim.

He called pass interference. It was picked up because the other ref told him it was behind the line of scrimmage, therefore no PI.
It WAS a hold though. Even Herbie said that.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | November 18, 2014 at 09:09 AM
Ohio.. I was in the end zone and saw the hold as clear as day.. they called holding, which I also heard clear as day.. then said "there is no flag for holding"... IDK where the PI was you are talking about lol
Posted by: UMike | November 18, 2014 at 09:13 AM
You're talking about Ermon on the outside, right? Herbie said on TV they called PI. Then the ref said "there is no flag for pass interference because the pass happened behind the line of scrimmage".
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | November 18, 2014 at 09:14 AM
Ohio... IDK maybe it was different plays... I thought it was a run play, but in the stadium I heard them call holding. I remember cause on the next play they called holding again lol

2016 LB Zach McCloud on his commitment:
here's the 247 summary with some quotes from the kid.
http://miami.247sports.com/Article/2...Miami-33039259
- “I set my mind on this decision a long time ago ever since I was a little kid wanting to play football,” McCloud said. “I was always hoping to be at Miami as long as I can remember. Even though I doubt I’m going to change directions, it is just a verbal commitment. I could decommit if I choose to but I don’t see that happening.”
- “From a football standpoint, they’re coming up again,” McCloud said. “They’ve made progress already and I think they will make even more in the next few years. I want to be a part of that plus it’s a very good school to get a degree from. It’s great to be a Hurricane and I’m looking forward to it.”
- “It sounded like there was a party going on in the background and every coach around was invited,” McCloud said. “It was a lot of fun telling them personally that I decided to commit. They offered about a week ago so everything moved along pretty fast.”
- On Langham being at Miami; “That was a part of it, just another thing to add on the list of reasons working for Miami,” McCloud said. “He’s somebody I’m familiar with and that did influence my decision. It’s nice to know I have another person already there that I can trust.”

@joshdarrow: The Canes 2016 LB group is silly with McCloud, Mike Pinckney and Shaquille Quarterman. All 3 can RUN and are extremely physical!!
Posted by: Go Canes | November 18, 2014 at 09:45 AM
McCloud reminds me of Matthew Thomas, but He seems a lot more physical, and has a helluva forearm shiver.

A lot of times, not always, kids say that stuff because they still want the trips, the steak and lobster dinners, the getting driven around in nice cars, the cute coed "hostesses" and the swag, which they can keep or give to friends.
If it was my son I'd leave it up to him, but just insist that he be a man of his word. If he wants a little time at a nice restaurant and a jumpoff, it's part of growing up as long as it's all consensual.

Drives me crazy to hear this, but it's just how these kids are these days.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | November 18, 2014 at 10:14 AM
Hadn't had a chance to comment about the game, but I want to say this, yes we left some plays out on the field, none worse than having Coley open 20 yds in front of a defender and over throwing him and for once we can actually say we should have one this game. Yes we made plenty of mistakes BUT we fell into the trap alot of these other teams that were up big on FSU and that's we got to conservative on offense and defense. We played sideways to much on Offense in the second half and the defense reverted back into their old ways of laying off and not attacking. Our defense is not there yet to rely on them to hold leads. They played great in the first half. Hell, we were playing to win but in the second half we played not to lose. Teams quit attacking FSU when they get up on them and that doesn't do anything but play into their hands. They constantly bring pressure in the second half, more blitzes, what else are they going to do being down. This coaching staff, still needs some tweaking in the big games. Winston probably threw for 200 yds in the second half, one because we quit pressuring him as much.
I could go on but I'm disgusted. The irony is if we had some better coaching, we could be 9-1. Forget the mistakes we made the other night, FSU made mistakes too plus as I made a comment on Friday, good teams find a way to win ugly games and yes they get all the luck with that batted pass that fell perfectly into Freeman's hands for a walk in T.D. Had we played with the same game-plan in the second half, no doubt we win.

Social media has changed things, more than kids have changed. No longer does a kid have to solely depend on His/Her HS coach to "get the tape out", these kids can market themselves nowadays.
Posted by: CaneRock | November 18, 2014 at 10:49 AM
My final thought for today, is if we want to get back to where we need to be then we have to start winning some recruiting battles. If you think about next year, we are still going to be weak in the middle on defense and with Perrymen gone we won't have that kind of talent available to take his spot. We are already weak at DT, even with Pierre being a 3 year starter and we already know the weaknesses of DENO.
We lose our speed guy, in Dorsett at Wr. We do have Coley, who has big play capabilities but who else do we have, that is comparable to Dorsett? Waters, Lewis, Berrios are descent but are not game changers. Walford is gone and we only have Dobard, with any real experence at the position. We don't have a Jalen Ramsey type player on defense or a Goldmen, these kind of players that can put us over the top and defense is where we need the most help. If you look at this years verbals, so far I don't see any immediate help coming for our front 7. We keep striking out on getting good DT's and LB's. Don't get me wrong Grace has turned into a player but he is way under sized. I guess what I'm saying is FSU type talent and they already have two 5 star guys coming to their secondary next year. They have always gotten talent but we beat them because we just out coached them, it ain't happening now. With that being said, we will have enough talent to win a ACC ship, as long as we aren't in any tight games where coaching will matter.

Social media has a huge impact.
All kids are heavy into it. In athletics, especially for the most sought after athletes, it's a huge factor in many respects.

Was wondering if I am totally off about our lack of aggression in the second half so I went back and looked at it.
1st posession 3rd quarter:
Incomplete pass
Duke 10 yard run
Short pass
Short run
Incomplete pass
1st drive three passes, 2 runs including 1st down.
2nd posession:
Duke 5 yard run brought back by penalty
Kaaya 20 yd completion
2 straight runs of 5,7,6 yards-(dominating line of scrimmage)
3 yard run
incomplete pass
incomplete pass
more success running than passing
3rd posession:
2 runs by Duke for 1st down
Run by Duke for 1 yard loss
33 yd completion to Dobard who fumbles at their 34.
So far really having a hard time seeing this conservative play
4th quarter
Duke for 7 yards
Duke for 28 yards
Incomplete pass
Yearby for 6
Yearby for 4
1st down-incomplete pass
2nd down Duke 1 yard run
3rd down-incomplete to Stacey
46 yd field goal
Next posession (total disaster):
Duke 1 yard run
False start
Incomplete
Short competion
punt
Final posession:
Well we all know how that went.
Looking at that breakdown, we had good success running and maybe should have passed LESS, based on how we were getting first downs on the ground.

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | November 18, 2014 at 11:50 AM
No real explosive plays, except Dobard's fumble.
What a brilliant call with 53 seconds, to go near midfield and I believe third down and hand the ball off to Duke and him get nothing.
Posted by: That was then this is Now | November 18, 2014 at 11:55 AM
Well you have to complete the passes for them to be explosive right?
Or can you tell me if they would have been none of them would have been for long gains.
The effort and aggression was clearly there, the result wasn't.
That's called playing the result.
Posted by: Go Canes | November 18, 2014 at 11:59 AM
I think there is a misconception that we werent aggressive on offense in the 2nd half because of the fumble and dropped td. That costs us potentially 10-14 points.. those things go as planned and it looks like we are attacking still.
IMO the lack of attacking came on the D in the second half, not the O
Posted by: UMike | November 18, 2014 at 12:04 PM
I thought this one was about basketball, lol. Great win for our Canes, didn't think they had it in them, then again I didn't know much about Rodriguez.
Larranaga knows how to find players who have a killer instinct, and he puts them in position to win a game when it matters. Hoping the talent keeps us in games, because our toughness at the end will get us a few wins where others can't finish a game.
Posted by: j.w. | November 18, 2014 at 12:06 PM
Funny how everbody's saying "this play lost us the game", or "that play lost us the game"...when what really lost us the game, was Cook's 26 yard scamper that put em' IN THE LEAD, and that Kaaya INT that sealed the win for em'.
