Junior guard Sheldon McClellan scored a game-high 24 points to lead the University of Miami men’s basketball team to a 74-58 victory over Eckerd College Thursday night at the BankUnited Center. Thursday night’s game served as the Hurricanes lone exhibition contest of the year.
McClellan (Houston, Texas) finished the game by connecting on 7-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Teammates Angel Rodriguez (Cupey, P.R.), Omar Sherman (Duncanville, Texas) and Ivan Cruz Uceda (Madrid, Spain) also scored in double figures as they closed with 11, 10 and 10 points, respectively.
As a team, the Hurricanes’ transition game was on full display as it outscored Eckerd 13-0 in fast break points. In addition, Miami connected on 51 percent of its field goals from the field and limited itself to just nine turnovers over the 40-minute contest.
The Tritons would go to take a 30-29 advantage into the locker room. McClellan led all UM first half scorers with 12 points on 3-of-5 shooting. Redshirt freshman Deandre Burnett also chipped in with six points, connecting on 2-of-3 from the field. As a team, the Canes shot 42 percent in the opening 20 minutes and held a 16-15 edge over Eckerd on the glass.
Miami came out of the locker room firing as it went on a 10-3 run over the first five minutes of the second half to open up a 39-33 lead with 15:14 to go in the contest. Eckerd scored on its next offensive possession to trim the lead to four (14:35), but that would be as close as the Tritons would get for the remainder of the game.

Good blog SOUP. BB team should be exciting to watch this year, especially with that talented Guard lineup. That Uceda kid looks good, good footwork for a 6'10" kid...Omar Sherman has a good stroke from beyond the arc. Lookin' forward to watchin' em' this season.

Agreed! I don't know where this kid came from, or HOW U can be a JUCO and have 4 to play 4, but he looks really good. Kid could challenge for a starting job next year. Big boy can move at 6'5, 250.

We just need to plan where to meet

It's being talked about on CIS:
"You have 5 years to play 4 years of football. since he redshirted since playing at Gattaca per the article. he will then have 4 years left"
"im guessing because Gattaca is a Junior Club and not an actual school it is a redshirt.
Washington will have four years to play four, after having used what equates a red-shirt year at Gattaca."

Miami Hurricanes sing to Carter Hucks on day of transplant
The Miami Hurricanes released a special “birthday” video on Thursday for 8-year-old Carter Hucks, the Make-A-Wish youngster who spent time with the team last month as it was preparing for the Cincinnati game, and then again at the Virginia Tech game.
Carter underwent a bone marrow transplant Thursday in a South Carolina hospital, and was doing well, according to UM. He underwent chemotherapy treatments earlier this week.

Miami offered Tuesday, and quick to follow with offers after seeing his film were Alabama, Nebraska, Rutgers and Washington.
"Rutgers, I was talking to them for a year and a half and they never wanted to offer me (until this week) - I don't know why - but then I got a call from Miami and I was like `That's where I want to go.' And then after that I got messages from Nebraska, Washington, an email from Alabama that I would get offers."
He says an Alabama coach called him last night.
"He asked if I was interested in playing for them," Washington said. "I said `I'm committed to Miami, done.'"

One of the more unheralded players the New York Knicks received in their trade with the Dallas Mavericks is Shane Larkin but he could be a steal
In the trade that sent center Tyson Chandler and point guard Raymond Felton, the Dallas Mavericks received young point guard Shane Larkin.
Larkin had an extremely disappointing rookie season but is obviously a talented player and was the ACC’s best player during the 2012-2013 season with the Miami Hurricanes.
Eddie Scarito of Hoops Rumors believes Larin may have been a steal.
The potential steal of the trade with the Mavs was young point guard Shane Larkin, a first-rounder in the 2013 draft who didn’t see much playing time during his rookie season. Larkin has an extremely high upside, and he has been the team’s starter early in the season thanks to an injury to Calderon. But the Knicks may have made an error in declining to pick up his $1.675MM team option for next season since the CBA bars the team from re-signing him for more than he would have made on his option. If Larkin continues to impress on the court, he’ll likely command a higher salary than that option would have paid him. This could end up being another potential Jeremy Lin scenario, where the player has a breakout season and then another team swoops in and offers more than New York will be able to match.
