The next head coach...the right head coach...can get this program back to a 10 win level by year two easily.
If Golden were to leave tomorrow and the right candidate came aboard, he would not find a team bereft of talent.
In fact, it would be far from it. And people like you and others with actual coaching experience (VACane) can speak to the fact that it is not being coached up. I say year two because many of the notable coaches achieved great success in year two as they took over programs that already had good talent waiting for them:
Pete Carroll, USC (Trojans 5-7 year before)
2001: 6-6
2002: 11-1
Bob Stoops, Oklahoma (Sooners 5-6 year before)
1999: 6-5
2000: 13-0 (NC)
Nick Saban, LSU (Tigers are 3-8 year before)
2000: 8-4
2001: 10-3
Nick Saban, Alabama (Tide is 6-7 year before)
2007: 6-6
2008: 12-2
Urban Meyer, Florida (Gators 7-5 year before)
2005: 9-3
2006: 13-1 (National Championship)
Granted other coaches like Harbaugh or Briles took longer than two years, but they inherited programs that were more bereft of talent.
That is NOT the case of Miami next year.
And Butch

I'm still a fan of Hurricane football, I'm just not as excited about it with this PSU crew in charge. And I don't think I will be until they leave.

Twitter is so dumb. Calm down on Coley to Kentucky, it will play out. Besides, if Al does stay The U needs an OC that can bail out the horrible coaching of Al and Mark. Maybe The U can get Chip Kelly for their OC?

This is based on him being Stoops first choice the last go around. Coley said no and chose Miami.

Good as gone?
Based on what?
It's a lot harder to get Dade kids to commit to 2-10 Kentucky than it is to FSU and UM. Definitely harder than Mario getting kids to Bama.
Everyone said Randy would kill us at Arkansas. How's it going getting the local guys there so far?
He can parlay Kaaya's success into his own coaching gig.
I question whether he'll make this move.
Posted by: Go Canes | December 01, 2014 at 05:54 PM
From the Courier Journal
As for Brown's replacement at Kentucky, assuming Stoops wants to stick with a similar style, three names to watch: East Carolina coordinator Lincoln Riley, Cincinnati coordinator Eddie Gran and Murray State head coach Chris Hatcher, who learned the "Air Raid" under Hal Mumme as a player at Valdosta State and later assistant coach at UK in the 1990s.
No mention of Coley.
Posted by: The Dude | December 01, 2014 at 05:56 PM
More power to Coley if he goes, but there is nothing more than wild speculation at this moment.
Posted by: The Dude | December 01, 2014 at 05:57 PM
If he goes it sure will be interesting what we get as OC
Posted by: 1mg of Epi | December 01, 2014 at 05:58 PM
"I haven't decided whether to enter the NFL draft" is star-player-speak for "I have decided to enter the NFL draft." The only thing undecided is the exact date of the formal announcement.

You know your program has fallen from grace when your OC considers taking the same prosition at a school that has won 9 games in the past 3 seasons combined and gotten 9 wins in one season only once since 1984.
And yet, some people on this blog throw names like Harbaugh, Dungy or Gruden as possible HC hires around. Never going to happen.
Posted by: VfB_Cane | December 01, 2014 at 06:10 PM
Golden needs to be initiated into the U fraternity. To get in he needs to denounce the 3 4 scheme and have a class with Jimmy and Butch on how to coach defense... then he needs to swear off being a soft coach and begin to talk like we do on this sight. Third he needs to abandon the tie and start looking like a coach...he needs to stop with the appearance and speech of a ceo...only if he accomplishes these task which will translate into winning will he be worthy of throwing up the U.

I disagree the administration doesn't care. They've spent millions upgrading them, with more on the way. The massive upgrades to Sun Life will help too.

OGV is not the Truth.
No Christ is!!!
....but OGV, though he may put in in a complex humorous and often degradinglike way......is right about a lot of things....he said AlPa was not the answer....and he is spot on. AlPa will never win anything of significance....I thought he was a good guy, but poor coach from beginning as he has no real stars in his crown...he has turned out to be no diciplinarian, but a soft sweaty round boy.
I have a problem with a guy who cannot listen to and respect JJ.

Whether Golden is imminently gone, or on the hottest seat in coaching, his situation is unstable. Also, he apparently doesn't let Coley do his thing on offense. Coley knows Stoops from way back, and even if Kentucky has loads of problems, he knows "hate my boss" wouldn't be one of them. That's worth a lot.
Really, if Coley can work that situation, he'd be kind of dumb not to. What, is everything on UM's offense going to magically just jell next year, once we're rid of the dead weight like Duke and Walford?

I thought the same thing. He didn't wanna get help from Jimmy but will go fishing with him. This is how I knew Golden wasn't the guy. I was done with him after FSU last year and how the team went into a shell. Golden had his moments . That opening presser, hugging Malcom as he broke his ankle, stepping up and not leaving for other jobs UCLA,Penn St, Tennessee (hhad interviews) the whole NCAA debacle. But his negatives out weigh those moments . Playing favorites, not getting better on special teams.. not coaching up either Tracy or Stacy.. not playing Chocolate on kickoff returns. Fattening up Chick,Denzel just go Al.. just go
