The only one that benefited from the "Cloud" that hung over the fate of the UM program from August 2011 to October 2013 was Florida State.
It was the same scenario as when the Seminoles benefited from Miami's fall from grace and UM had sanctions to deal with in the mid-90s.
Is it any coincidence that FSU's true dominance comes during periods of Miami sanctions and the after effects of investigations?
Year / Miami Record / FSU Record:
1990: Miami: 10-2, FSU: 10-2
1991: Miami: 12-0, FSU: 11-2
1992: Miami: 11-1, FSU: 11-1
1993: Miami: 9-3, FSU: 12-1
1994: Miami: 10-2, FSU: 10-1-1
1995: Miami: 8-3, FSU: 10-2
1996: Miami: 9-3, FSU: 11-1
1997: Miami: 5-6, FSU: 11-1
1998: Miami: 9-3, FSU: 11-2
1999: Miami: 9-4, FSU: 12-0
2000: Miami: 11-1, FSU: 11-2
2001: Miami: 12-0, FSU: 8-4
2002: Miami: 12-1, FSU: 9-5
2003: Miami: 11-2, FSU: 10-3
2004: Miami: 9-3, FSU: 9-3
2005: Miami: 9-3, FSU: 8-5
2006: Miami: 7-6, FSU: 7-6
2007: Miami: 5-7, FSU: 7-6
2008: Miami: 7-6, FSU: 9-4
2009: Miami: 9-4, FSU: 7-6
2010: Miami: 7-6, FSU: 10-4
2011: Miami: 6-6, FSU: 9-4
2012: Miami: 7-5, FSU: 12-2
2013: Miami: 9-4, FSU: 14-0
2014: Miami: 6-3, FSU: 9-0
Miami Pell Grant investigation, sanctions and rebuilding last from 1993 - 2000. FSU plays in national championship games in 93, 96, 98, 99, and 00. During that time they have a record of 88-10-1.
The Shapiro investigation began in the fall of 2010 and NCAA verdict came last fall. Minor sanctions continue. During that time, FSU goes 44-6 and plays in a national championship game.
LMAO! Heard this earlier today, but an ESPN talkin' head, basically said that if UM beats FSU, that it would make the ACC irrelevant. Those SEC slurpers will say anything to prop up the $EC...SMFH!
Posted by: CaneRock | November 12, 2014 at 11:06 PM
Hate to say it, but that's true. FSU is the only relevant team in the conference. If we beat them, who else is there? Duke? clempson?Nothing we can do will put us in the national conversation this year. If we win, and build on the victory maybe next year will be different... the ACC is weak.

SJMP, I like Butch and I appreciate what he did to bring in the talent to win our last ship.
But the perception, based in part on his own missteps, is that he's tainted. He will never be our coach. He wouldn't even be a candidate for this or any other major jobs, and that was even before all the latest stuff came out.
If for some reason Golden leaves, Butch will not be on our short list, or anybody else's that matters. That's not hate, that's just how I'm sure it is.

For us to win on Sarurday, every starter will have to play the absolute best game of their careers, and the coaches will have to be almost 100% on their play selection and strategy. Also, our special teams, kickoffs included, will have to be significantly better than they've been all year.
Do that, keep it close, and we have a shot. Remember, FSU has the deeper and more talented team, have won a bunch in crunch time, are the defending champs, and will come out with a huge chip on their shoulders. They have something to prove this week, as if playing a rival isn't enough motivation.
Posted by: Lurker | November 12, 2014 at 11:38 PM
We are not good at Kick of Returns. But we have only allowed the one td, and the return average is only 23.46. FSU is much better at 18.24. Advantage to them. I didn't say all stats favored them and you are right to point to special teams deciding the game.
How many wide rights, wide lefts and other big special teams plays have won these games. I mean, Jimmy Johnson encouraged his starters to play special teams in big games. I always though that was a good plan.

TALLAHASSEE – The Tallahassee Police Department says Florida State running back Karlos Williams is not being charged after a domestic battery investigation.
The police released the incident report Wednesday detailing the investigation, which ended because “without a statement or additional evidence there is no way to further this case.” The case remains “Open/Inactive.”
So the Tallahassee police conduction yet another investigation and didn't press charges. Of course not, that's their job.
Instead of ring toss at the tailgates, they should have FSU specific games crab leg stealing, video erasing, bb shooting, girlfriend beating in which one uses an inflatable doll perhaps an impact plate, sledgehammer and bell or perhaps sex chanting in which one stands on a table and yells "F*** Her Right in the P****" at the FSU female supporters. That would make them feel right at home.

I love our Kayaa, he is the future.
Jameis is a criminal. But on the football field, he is a beast, and the best QB in college football.
If anyone had to pick teams, he would get picked 100 times out of 100 ahead of Brad.
He can win games virtually by himself.

I could see a lot of these kids transferring to Flannigan. Bush has built up quite a program there, and they are relatively close to each other.

Miramas's recent rise and Carol City's fall go hand and hand. I'm sure plenty end up at Carol City, and I wouldldnt be surprised o see STA come in a snag a couple

Brad has a ways to go before he hits his ceiling, and I'd bet Jameis is close to his.
Seriously, I think Kaaya has a shot at being UM's best QB ever. He's putting up very respectable numbers without spending a single offseason working in Coley's offense. Or in UM's weight room.
If he doesn't have a sophomore slump, he is absolutely going to tear **** up for the next couple of years.

Posted by: Go Canes | November 13, 2014 at 11:22 AM
1) The oddest forfeit of the season didn’t even last a half — It may be awhile before we fully learn what inspired Champagnat Catholic, of Hilaeah, Fla., to forfeit against IMG Academy while still in the second quarter. Yes, IMG had already built up a virtually insurmountable 48-8 lead. But did Champagnat throw the white flag because it didn’t want to play the role of whipping boy, or was it because of concern about injury or numbers? One report claimed that Champagnat walked off the field to protest a second quarter call that the coaching staff disagreed with, but that is from one account. Only time will tell if that tells the full story.

The "leader of men" (see: street agent) that coaches there (Jon Drummond aka Genron) is one of the worst people. Pushes kids to $EC schools for kickbacks. (Valentine)

I would estimate that big time college programs have cost UM a title game or two since 2001. When you look back at kids like Patrick Peterson who were "canes to the bone" until they and their families were enticed with money and jobs to go elsewhere, I think my estimate of two title games may even be low.
