Coach L. gets the best out of his players. What a great coach!

VA Cane

Susan D. Jamelle Hill......idiots. neither has blocked tackled scored or put a jock on in their lives..well maybe as ugly as they are they got a set.....why do they exist or opine? Neither has ever played the game in their lives......so shut your stupid pieholes about things you have no clue about.....

SJMPARMAN

They look good especially for having nine new players. Larranaga was an incredible hire. I think it was him more wanting to come to us but still, he has rebuilt this program into one that looks organized, prepared, and capable on any given night.

That's good news about Jaquan Johnson. He is a playmaker and true leader. I would be surprised if he does not play immediately as a true freshman.

j.w.

WWIM, I was thinking earlier today we were in trouble once FU gets their new head coach.
CGNC- LOL, just a few that I see quoted here. :) Canespace is the only sane place to be usually, we're all furious now but compared to others, we're still the calmest place in Canedom. This is still the only place where we get over the anger after a few days.

Scarlett and Williams

I've told you guys what I know from the Miami side on Scarlett, which was that they remained confident he would stick. I'm told from the FSU side they they believe he is theirs for the taking now.

Miami always knew that Williams would be very tough to hold on to and I am told that he is monitoring the UF coaching situation closely and the Gators are still in the picture.

Isn't this stuff fun?

Don't blame the Dolphins for that loss. A night game, on the road, in prime time, getting the Broncos best shot... no way to win there.

And va Im not talking about how you look or your habits..necessarily...thats like being voted team capt. Being more excited about that than winning the game. A good example knows how important it is to compete and is motivated by hating to lose. You can see the guys who know how to win. They always come back in close games
The Canes have had those kinds of teachers in the past. They instilled an understanding in us old Canes. We wont accept losing

Wait, Golden had 5 years left and making 2.5 a year. His agent isn't dumb and neither is he. He ain't going nowhere. 3 years before this fire Golden stuff.

Posted by: laquinton | November 23, 2014 at 04:39 PM

I question UM's HR acumen when it comes to the last 2 coaching hires, but I don't think UM is dumb when it comes to contract negotiations.

Remember, they signed Him to a contract extension Nov 2011, and He was making plans to bounce 2 years later...that tells me there's something in that contract that gives Him an easy out.

Something kind of crummy for Hurricanes 'round the nation crossed my mind more than once. If UM should lose next week and then lose the bowl game, it would end the season 6-7.

It's all good, nobody agrees on everything. Just like I like reading your analysis of the high football players you go watch and Cane commits! I still remember you talking about how good Trayone was too, it's a shame that he can't play bcuz he's 215, but Bama has RB's that are 240 SMH!

Thats why the Canes are doing it right when you see the success we have in the NFL.These players are epic examples.

Va I have enjoyed reading your post and can see why you were successful as a coach. Shoot you got me wanting to run through walls after reading your post.

I believe that the rules of life are mainly learned by example and not by command. I place the responsibility of failure on the leaders rather than the little guy. If there is a healthy example of leadership the kids will catch the attitude in the example rather than just talking a good game. So I think its better to question authority than to make a point to blame the kids. The refs in the acc have been a terrible example.

Right now, our best players are better than anybody's best players. Anybody. Watch Perryman, Dorsett, Flowers, Duke and Walford in the pros. No other Power Five school can match those upperclassmen. Four years later, Miami is still undefeated on Sunday and .500 on Saturday.

Stats lie! We won 2 games where we primarily ran the ball and won 4 games passing! Of course it looks like we ran the ball more in wins, in which we did, but that's only bcuz we have a soft coach with no killer instinct that runs the clock out at the START of the 3rd qtr!

From CIS

Talent

In early 2012, I had a conversation with a former Miami staffer who landed at Alabama. I congratulated him on Alabama's championship and told him that it must be nice to coach so many studs. He looked at me and said, "Miami's good players are better than Alabama's good players."

I couldn't believe it. Alabama was the national champion. Miami was 6-6 and coming off an embarrassing home loss to BC. Alabama had multiple projected first round picks. Miami had a few mid and late-round guys. But he was insistent.

"Lamar Miller is better than Trent Richardson. Olivier Vernon is better than Courtney Upshaw. And Seantrel Henderson is better than any lineman we've got. Watch them in the pros."

Now that we've seen those guys in the NFL, we know he was dead-on. Why were the programs so far apart on the field? The coach said it came down to football infrastructure (training table, strength and conditioning, medical staff) and depth. He left out coaching, for obvious reasons, but you can assume that's another factor. Once those guys get to the NFL, he said, all the external things will become equal and raw talent will prevail.

Golden has done a better job than RS in terms of player development; specifically, strength and conditioning. Perryman, Dorsett, Walford and Duke all got bigger and stronger without losing their speed. But why is a team with so many elite players struggling in a talentless Coastal division?

Coaching is an obvious factor that is being addressed in every other thread on this board. The other factor is depth. In my view, there are three reasons depth is not where it needs to be:

1- We cannot identify undervalued South Florida talent. We are the anti-Louisville in this regard. These South Florida three-stars should be the main source of depth for this team, along with blue-chip young players.

2- The camp has produced nothing. I've discussed this before, but it bears repeating: the camp is the biggest indictment of the Temple crew's talent evaluation skills. If Paul "Delaware" Williams offers a kid at the camp, I just assume it's a wasted scholarship.

3- The Temple coaches have a Northeastern, Parcells approach that does not work here. This relates to numbers 1 and 2. Golden says that you support the star players with "coal shovelers." His idea of a coal shoveler is a low-rated, low-maintenance guy who has ideal measurables to develop. That's crap. The meat of this program should be South Florida ballers who may lack a measurable or two. The guys that go to Louisville and talk **** to our five-stars. Football players, not projects with good attitudes. If we had been stacking these guys for four years, this team would look much, much different.

Right now, our best players are better than anybody's best players. Anybody. Watch Perryman, Dorsett, Flowers, Duke and Walford in the pros. No other Power Five school can match those upperclassmen. Four years later, Miami is still undefeated on Sunday and .500 on Saturday.

BigWindyCane1

I don't hate Kaaya. I think one of the best decisions Al Golden made was to start Kaaya. BUT I cannot pretend that kaaya is ready to run the two minute drill against FBS opponents yet but he has the potential to get there. I am just stating facts. Kaaya will be better next year with a full spring to prepare and more time in the weight room. So the question is - how did the canes win this year? How will the canes close out the Pitt game with a win? Look at the stat line. The answer is obvious.

That was then this is Now

Couldn't of said any better than this Mat George said on the Herald blog, scroll down and read. dude is on point. Read the whole comment.

VfB_Cane

Dude, don't worry.
It says IF we win the next two games. That's the story of the past two weeks: IF we beat FSU AND wind out, we'll get to the ACCCG. After the loss: IF we win out, we'll tie last years record and have a win in a bowl game. We lose again. Now, it's IF we win the next two games we'll be 8-5.

I'm expecting more losses along the way and hope I'm wrong.

My CIS post won't come thru for some reason?

Clouds everyone, clouds. The only cloud over Miami football is the cloud of Al Golden's contract.

In what world is 8-5 OK?!?!?! My God what some consider "OK" these days is a complete failure of Miami football. We lost to GT and UVA for Christ's sake! Enough is enough, this guy is a lame duck HC through 2015 because Blake James has no teeth and Donna doesn't care. The U needs new leadership. 8-5 would be OK after 4 years of this BS... At The U with all of our advantages in the Coastal... What a joke!

Barry Jackson, a hater from the dark side?

*** UM has now been outscored 167 to 59 in the second half of its past nine losses.

*** UM dropped to 6-5 overall and 3-4 in the ACC, ensuring that Miami cannot match last year’s win total (nine).

*** Against teams from the power five conferences, UM is 18-19 under Golden.

*** The Hurricanes have played 16 ACC road games under Golden and allowed at least 23 points in 15 of them and at least 30 in 11 of them.

Why are you constantly blaming Kaaya? All you want for us to do is give the ball to Duke a 100 times a game. Did you forget what Duke did on the first drive?

Kaaya is NOT the reason for any of our loses! Let's take away the last INT in each lose and replace it with a TD, do we still win? NO, except for the fsu game, and in that game it was 4th and 10 his only options was to throw the ball away, take a sack, try to run for it, or at least attempt to make something happen by throwing it which he did. Or would you had liked for him to eat the ball on that play? Those games were already over!

And again you DO NOT have to run the ball first to be able to pass it or be successful! If you noticed, we scored on a play action pass to PD4 without running the ball first! Why was it successful? Bcuz VA was set on taking away Duke in the run game and forcing Kaaya to beat em with his arm! Duke was shut down last night in the running game, did you not see that, or you just wanted us to force feed em anyways?

That was then this is Now

I guess all you Goldenites and excuses makers for this program, have hardcore headaches this morning! Made a post here yesterday about recruiting and coaches getting better themeselves and that this game would be an indicator of how good this staff was, sadly though, someone yanked it but that's okay because nobody wants to hear the truth.
Golden will be back, as I stated yesterday a good recruiter and evaluator of the 3 star player. The big stage is to much for him and his coaches. Virginia did what most teams should do with a rookie QB, make him beat you passing. Make us one dimensional. They succeeded. The second half, as usual no real adjustments. There is no excuses to losing to inferrior teams but that's what we are great for. Good teams find a way to win the ugly games, so as we all can see we aren't a good team. We have some good players but this is not a good team and the coaching, well lets just say it SUX. Can I use the word SUX on here? I love the "U" it pains me to no great end to watching them squirm, claw and scratch to win games against nobodies. Golden needs to reevaluate his coaching staff because I don't know if there is a motivator one on that staff.

VfB_Cane

Thank god Herb is OK.

It would have been unbearable to see a guy leave his health on the field on a night when so many didn't put in the effort, "starting with me" (Looking at you, Al).

My biggest fear is that Al does just enough to be granted 2015 and then in 2015 does just enough to get 2016, lol. I actually hope we lose to Pitt at this moment.

The sad fact is that Mike London is a former Richmond City cop, a guy who worked his way up to HC. AlPa supposedly learned the game under JoPa. Must not have learned much. JoPerv knew about the shit that was going on but at least he won.AlPa cannot win.

Please stop whining about officials cheating us or blaming them, you know who you are. Doing this after you see the product on the field shows you have no clue about the game.

Mornin' I see we lost badly, & yes,too painful to watch, when you love your school so much. 86 knows how it feels in the pit of your stomach. How do all of you know that B.DAVIS would really come back? REAL OR JUST HOPING?
Something to think about----when Gerry Faust was coach of Notre Dame, & lost an embarrassing amount of games (loss to Southern Cal.was the last straw), the Alumni were so pissed
around the world, that the Alumni gathered all the millions to pay off his multi year contract. Didn't take much time at all. Big difference between ND alumni & the U alumni. Just saying. Wouldn't it be something if we could do that. Lots of wealthy U alumni, but not a close knit group. Maybe IRVIN,SAPP, Gloria Estavan, etc.should get it going. Or we will be just a Nan-be Pam-be school who plays sub par football.

It's really hard to shake this feelings... 2015 is make or break. But 4 years ago you couldn't have told me that Golden wouldn't have brought Miami back to national prominence. That introduction conference til now just seems oh to good to be true. And you can ask many questions to him but thanks Mike London and fellow ACC coaches. What rank sites Golden average in the ACC ? UCLA wanted him and Jim Mora is a good coach. Tennessee wanted him and I like Butch Jones alot.. Charlie Strong can win at Texas. Florida fires Champ.. Foley has the balls to do so. Raize... He might've kept em in the locker room if there was snow. That's stuff is cold! And dem boys is tired!!!!!

The sad truth is that this is a very poorly coached team. From top to bottom... Not just Xs and Os but the little things become adventures. The last 4 weeks were mostly just a mirage which I think many of us saw through, but didn't want to say anything lest we ruin the vibe on this board.

Cinci... Gimme a break, a poor non power 5 team whose best player, the QB, was wincing from sore ribs.
VT... A bad football team, but in the second half they came out and moved the ball up and down the field on us. We had no answer (adjustments) luckily they decided to fumble the ball a few times in and near the red zone. That second half should've sounded alarm bells.
NC.... A good offensive football that we shut down. Honestly one of, if not the only, good game from whistle to whistle.
FSU... We didn't do anything every single other team they faced this year hasn't done. Another example of inability to adjust in the second half. Oh and by the way, a very poorly coached game in general. Well coached teams do not get penalized on first plays of drives, get confused in the 2 minute drill. Etc etc

The game last night was more of the same sloppy brand of football devoid of adjustments. This staff is the worst in the acc... Who else would do so little with so much? It's a real shame were stuck with these charlatans.!

Or fall

I remember when w jimmy started and we had a soft d. We couldnt stop BC and we got beat in the ob on flutie hail mary pass. The talk that came out of the canes camp was that Jimmy was gonna go out and replace these guys that were not cutting it with better freshman. That was the mentality that got us into the national scene. Every spring it did not matter whether you were two or three year guy. The guy who beat his man consistently in practice got the start. And our d was professional at shedding blocks. They were like pit bulls.
It was the standard.
