If we're trying to figure out how to bump up our third down conversion numbers, or increase our TFL, or lower our opponents' time of possession, we're just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

Good research. Thinking about the season, in the games we lost, except FSU, the winning team dominated the line of scrimmage and time of possession. They wore the defense down in the second half. Because we never adjusted to take the running game away the 2nd half stats go down hill as the defense tired. In those losses, we basically tried to let a true freshman sling us on to victory in the second half and he couldn't do it (because that would have been difficult for even a senior to do.

The point is we have to shut down running games first and foremost. If we can't do that we will almost always lose the second half of games against decent competition. Winning college coaches rely on juniors and seniors and not true freshmen.

Great research. I love it.

Go Canes

If we had simply scored the same amount in the second half of games as in the first I wonder how this season would have ended up.

Go Canes

Lots of good info btw. Good article.

I am starting to get to the point where I am not going to get my hopes up high and come to the realization that will always be a 7-5 / 8-4 team..... this would eliminate most of my stress during football season.

Raize that is a good idea. That way if the team does better the mood is better. I dig it. Might have to adopt this thought process as well. Go Canes.

BTW the next season home slate includes games against Nebraska, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Virginia and my guess is Bethune Cookman. Just thinking out loud my guess is Nebraska, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech are must see games for me. Probable games I will try to make is Virginia and the road game at FAU. Go Canes! Beat South Carolina!

That's where I would have it too.

GT, Louisville, FSU are obvious ones, likely would have added much more meaning and intensity to the two stink bombs we ended the season with.

Go canes... You're are pretty down on the O coaching it would seem. Do you think Coley deserves another year?

Go Canes

I'm not down on the offense. Kaaya had a heck of a season but at the end of the day he was still a true freshman.

I believe we scored 3 against FSU, 3 at GT, 3 at Louisville and none at UVA in the second half. You won't beat anyone doing that.

With a season under his belt, these bowl practices, plus a full spring and fall, I don't see that happening again in 2015.

Markus... Great job!!

These numbers are an indictment of the entire coaching staff, and clearly show adjustments are not being made. College athletics is unique in that the talent differential can be immense. While the ACC had a good out of conference showing this year, I would argue that it still is the bottom of the power 5 barrel. I would further argue that the coastal division is about as bad it gets in the power 5. These stats benefit from a horrible schedule. Even VT was down this year. And we're still tied for last.

Go canes... You asked what the record would be if the O scored as much in 2nd halves as it did in first halves. I think it'd be 8-4 maybe 9-3. So what would the record be if we played in the SEC or PAC 12?

After 4 years its safe to say AG will never be anything other than the HC of a bad team regardless of talent.

So it's just a function of an inexperienced QB, and not coaching?

WWIN

Go Canes what record does Golden need to have by the end of 2015 to save his job?

Go Canes

No it's a combination of all those factors.

The difference between an average team and coaching staff is doing what's necessary to win.

The players and coaches all failed at that.

CaneRock

Among other things, Kaaya's gotta improve His arm strength...we can't protect His noodle arm all the time by field position.

And Coley needs to stop with all this..."I'm recruiting QB such & such so I can run a "special package"" Screw. That. If ya'll wanted Morris & Williams to push Harris & Morris, then ya'll should want Rosier or Lawson to push Kaaya.

Next year the bus will be like the bus on Speed, rigged to explode.

The Dude

It's funny how much stronger a QB's arm looks when he's got complete command of his offense. For Miami to be successful, Coley's group needs to put up 40 to 50 a game because Mark and Al's D tries to find ways to lose. The blocking needs to get better and more sophisticated, Kaaya needs to be a field commander, the ball needs to be out of his hands in 3 seconds. He's losing some weapons next year in Dorsett, Duke and Walford, plus Miami will be replacing 3 starters on the OL. If I had to guess the five O-linemen will be LT-McDermott, LG-Isidora, C-Linder, RG-Darling, RT-Gadbois. Anyways, my hope is Al gets fired after the bowl because I don't want to sit through 6-9 win seasons anymore. The O may actually take a step back next year, especially early on. The D is just the most God awful thing I've ever seen. Death by 1,000 needles. Can't stop 1 dimensional offenses, horrible at getting turnovers and sacks and getting of the field. Oh God, 2015 is going to suck.

The Dude

On defense Miami loses: Perryman & Armbrister, those are tough losses, it will be hard to replace both of them. Miami may lose McCord, but my hunch is he comes back. Miami loses Pierre and Chickillo, two seniors on an already bad DL. Gunter is gone, one of the more rangy guys in the secondary. Every year players change and guys come in and out and some play well, some don't. But this was the most experienced defensive squad Al and Mark have had and the D was bad again. The red flags on the scheme are well documented, but hey, let's all double down (again) on this staff and expect different results, didn't someone smart say that was the very definition of a crazy person?

Morning Spacers!

For the first time since I started working at this shelter I got to see a young man go home to his family. Not off to jail or to another facility, but home to his family. Such a great feeling. So proud of that young man... the last few weeks other buys have tried to bait him into some things and he pushed through and did the right thing. It makes all the bad nights, all the horror stories bearable.

Considering if we scored 30 a game we'd likely be undefeated, I think needing 40-50 may be a bit of a reach.

CaneRock

If we scored "30 a game" vs Louisville,NU, & Pitt, we would've still lost. If we scored "30 a game" vs UVA & FSU, we would've went to OT. That's 0-3, with 2 up in the air right there, so where's this "likely undefeated"?

Duke, GT, VT UNC

Go Canes...I don't think needing 40-50 is a reach for next season. Even Gary Patterson said He had to go to a more wide open offense, after going 4-8 in 2013. Aren't you the one that's always harping on how today's game has changed?...yes?...no?
