I still think Louisville should've been a win. Their defense ended up pretty good, but their offense was crap.

Michigan opening those pocket books.

If the offense was better than 6-6, what does that say about the D?

This is how the coaches can successfully recruit South Florida with a 6-6 regular season record. The U is your best chance to make it to the league.

Go Canes beat S. Carolina!

Our Special Teams cost us the Louisville and FSU games. And didn't hurt us against Virginia as well. Offense was pretty good, Defense was decent, Special Teams abysmal.

ST cost us a game? A unit that's involved with 1/20th of the snaps?

Ask Devin Hester if he's ever completely changed a game....

SJMPARMAN

Thanks for the research Markus. I am not sure what my take is on these numbers. Total for all games yields a scoring average of 29.91. Throw out the two non-competitive games on the schedule FAMU and Arkansas State and we had a scoring average of 27.77. In terms of differential versus average scoring defense of opposing teams, we finished a plus 46. So taken over the year, we scored slightly less than 4 point better per game than the opposing team usually allows. Throw out the two non competitive games and it is about plus 20, or about 1.7 per game.

Yet, we pass the eye candy test and we did have at least 4 or 5 players who I expect to play in the NFL one day on the team. I mean, the number 7 running back, the #1 WR is terms of yards per catch, a young but competent quarterback, a potential number 1 pick in Flowers, and I think at least one other OL guy will make the NFL one day. I would just say that we seriously under performed. Also, as I pointed out on the last blog, when you are running less plays per game than your opponents, you are at a disadvantage.

Soup, these stats blogs were interesting and I enjoyed the intelligent and thoughtful comments of the space faithful on them. But I am starting to get a headache (and not to mention a heartache) going over these numbers. Can we have a non stats blog next? It just makes me angrier and angrier when the stats reveal the clear mediocrity of this staff.

Maybe one of the guys who are really into recruiting can write a blog about our defensive line talent and how there is hope on that front next year. Because until we recruit guys like Hendrix, Rueben Carter, Jerome Brown, Stubbs, McDougal, Kennedy, Madearis, and the other beasts of our past, we will just be an Alverage team for now and into the future.

1mg of Epi

Changing a game, sure. Contributing to, sure. ST rarely wins or looses anything on its own. But then again, with this special teams coach, I'm probably wrong.

I count 6 shots!

WWIN

We shoulda won all 6 games we lost...

1. Louisville. New HC and new QB, best WR which happens to be the best player on the team was injured. Starting RB was also injured. Played them in our bowl game and had about 8 months to prepare for them.

2. Nebraska. They only have one player, we had more talent than them. They were one dimensional.

3. GA Tech. We have a LOT more talent than them! They are one dimensional and ran the ball down our throats.

4. FSU. The only team on paper better than us. We had a big lead on em and was winning the whole game at home until 305!

5. Virginia. Self explanatory

6. Pitt. Self explanatory

I agree w you WW.... The only team on the schedule that may legitimately be better than us is FSU, but after watching that game there is no reason to believe we couldn't have beaten them.

It's seems as if we're all too timid to claim we could've (should've) been undefeated, because the unbeaten season is the sacred cow. I agree, except that we play in the worst division of the worst conference in the power 5.

SOUP... That we should've had a 9-3 season isn't the end of the story. At 9-3 we all should've been disappointed. 9-3 only sounds good in light of our reality... A 6-6 disaster. if anybody has any legitimate reasons why 12-0 shouldn't have been more than feasible please enlighten me.

Our coaching staff is an abomination. At worst We should be blogging today about how upset we are that we barely missed the playoffs. That we are instead talking about a sub .500 record vs the power 5 is a sin.

The Dude

1mg,

You're sounding like a 12%er. I knew I liked you for some reason. RCCF we need to have this guy on the bus. Listen up 1mg because you are new to the party. Many of us here on this blog were saying in February and on through the summer that this team could and maybe should go undefeated. We knew it would be tough but really thought these things: that we had more talent than everyone but FSU, that our playmakers would be better than FSU, that the next QB would be more accurate than Stephen Morris, that it was year 4 of Mark and Al's D and so we expected tremendous results and that the D had a bunch of talent. Well certain people, I'm sure you can guess who said we had an agenda, that we were trying to build the team up so that if they failed it would make the failure harder to stomach. Interesting how the year worked out. I don't think undefeated was a completely unrealistic expectation considering who Miami is and what the schedule looked like.

The Dude

P.S. SOUP I tried to post a link to Kate Upton running on the beach, shooting hoops and winning big in a wet t shirt but the blog wouldn't let it post. You must have my posts set to PG rating when I'm gonna need R.

1mg of Epi

Yea..I've seen the 12% thing and the bus mentioned.. Dunno what the hell it is but it sounds like people who know football, so sign me up!!

Wait... The boot kickers thought you guys were talkin sh** by suggesting the team go undefeated? And that you have an agenda? That's absurd. This team is loaded, at least compared to who we play. What were they saying the record would be? Whose supposed to beat us.

The coaching is atrocious. Some apparently disagree, but have never offered any reasons why I'm wrong. Until somebody has the faith in their convictions to lay out an argument the 12%ers have every right to feel vindicated.

The Dude

12% crew goes way back to the founding of this blog and a poll as to what the years record would be. RCCF is the ring leader and WW is second in command. The motto: True Canes Fans Only Predict 12-0. I was probably the most active person convincing people to get on board. The Louisville loss left me so heartbroken because to me it said that Al doesn't take this thing personally, like a real leader of aggressive men should. Miami had no heart that night, as they haven't most of the year. As SOUP has alluded to, the old be the same person everyday BS. Go back and look at the #agenda stuff Go Canes and 30Cinco were posting along with another blogger. See those two only showed up around the time Golden was taking on heat last year. They weren't regular bloggers until Al got his @ss on the hot seat.

1mg of Epi

Wee you're right all the way around.. They have the talent to be top 10 this year. They didn't look like a team w strong leadership or heart. The always the same person thing... More hollow words. And I don't know what agenda they could possible think you have, especially considering they don't believe the staff or admin hears any of the fans clamoring and cage rattling.

He's right. And in each case you can attribute scheme to the loss. Scheme, something that a decent coach can adjust throughout the course of a game to defend/attack the opponent. Our biggest failure.

No worries. Soup asked three questions and I tried to answer two of them, so there is nothing in stock at the moment.

I'm pretty confident the blog will turn its focus to recruiting once the bowl game is in the books, with a little basketball thrown in if the BB team is competitive in ACC play.
Of cause, this blog's cosmic background radiation is and will be the debate about the future of the "It starts with me" crew, unless the bowl game is such a disaster that the administration and the BoT do a 180 and decide to fire the whole bunch. Which isn't very likely, as many have pointed out before.

### For those wondering if Al Golden might tire of all the negativity and leave for another job, don't count on that. Neither Pittsburgh nor any other program has asked for permission to speak to Golden, and UM doesn’t expect him to seek a job elsewhere.

### Golden said Ray Lewis III has been away from the team for awhile because he’s focusing on academics but remains on the roster.

### Brooklyn-based Jahair Jones, rated by 247sports.com as the 11th best junior college offensive tackle, orally committed to UM, according to canesport.com.

Also, Royal Palm Beach High Class of 2017 prospect Todd Centeio, a dual-threat quarterback in the mold of UM's Malik Rosier, orally committed to UM tonight.

### Go figure: A greater percentage of homes in Birmingham, Ala. (4.7 percent) watched The U: Part 2 on ESPN Saturday night than in Miami-Fort Lauderdale (3.3). Jacksonville ranked third among metered markets with a 3.0, with Greensboro fourth and Las Vegas fifth… ESPN’s first airing of The U: Part 2 was seen by 1.87 million viewers on Saturday, compared with 2.3 million for the debut of the first U documentary in 2009.

If those rumors are true, what they're doing is pretty irresponsible. Harbaugh has a good resume, but has yet to win it all. And they're spending a record-setting amount of taxpayer-subsidized money to lure him to the program? Are they really thinking that investment will pay for itself? It seems unlikely. And it will trigger still more coaching inflation.

If the guy doesn't want to coach at Michigan, the thing to do is find a guy who wants the job. It's the Michigan job, fergawdsake; there are highly qualified people who want it.

UMike

Even I agree with Go Canes from time to time... normally not about anything UM related though lol

Ohio_Cane

I did some asking around, and a guy who keeps the snap counts (he only has first 10 games) for UM said CT9 only played 130 snaps.

So he basically averaged 13 snaps a game...

Here's his reply: "130 snaps first 10, 7 vs UL, 18 ARST, 3 Duke, 19 GT, 39 UNC, 20 FSU."

U can't expect "sacks" versus GT, so cut those out.

So, like I said yesterday, let's wait and see with him next year when he's playing almost every down.

The economics of college football are such that this move is not as crazy as it sounds. Conference's Bowl deals are worth about $50 mil per year per conference, the playoff deal is worth $500 mil per year split amongst the conferences and the power 5 conferences each generate about $250 mill each year in TV revenue. Those numbers don't include tickets sales, concessions apparel, radio etc.

Michigan will be fine... The real question is with numbers like this, how does UM just sit back and let the program fall apart.

CaneRock

Hell yeah Harbaugh to UofM will pay off, you don't think Saban to Alabama paid off...

Matter of fact, I think Harbaugh to UofM, will pay off more than Saban to Alabama.

The Dude

Does anyone know what a win is worth in CF? Monetarily speaking.

1mg of Epi

Dude... I think a win is worth less than we think because the conferences share their revenue. It's likely just tickets, apparel, radio etc that increase as a program starts to win.

That's good for a small school like Miami because the revenue is there for coaching staffs etc... If they actually want to compete.

The Dude

Harbaugh will come in and tell the whole f*cking athletic department he's gonna punch Meyer in the face. He'll turn those boys into men. Michigan will become a bully. I really hope this happens for the sake of the Big 10. That will be fun to watch.

I think the real question is "how can UM do anything BUT just sit back and let the program fall apart?"

I guess the thing to do would be to fire Al Golden right NOW, before the Harbaugh rumors turn to reality, and salary escalation is well and truly underway, and sign Butch to a ten-year deal before the close of business.

But barring that, it's tough to see how UM won't get left in the dust.
