T. Kendall “Ken” Hunt, former football student-athlete and Founder, Chairman and CEO of VASCO Data Security International, Inc. (NASDAQ: VDSI), has made a gift of $1.5 million to endow the Ken Hunt Running Back endowed football scholarship in the University of Miami Department of Athletics.
This endowment marks the largest total gift from a former student-athlete in Athletics’ history. For that we are ALL very appreciative!
The gift will fund a full scholarship in perpetuity to a running back on the football team. Hunt, a highly recruited running back from Southern Illinois, was the first athlete from his high school to receive a football scholarship from a major university.
"As a young man, I was very fortunate to receive a scholarship to play football for the University of Miami,” Hunt said. “That scholarship meant everything to me. No one in my family had ever gone to college. This was my way forward. I used the education that I received from Miami to better myself. I guess you could say that I have been successful in business. Now, I give back to the U with an endowed scholarship for the next Ken Hunt.”
His goal of playing professional football came to an abrupt end following his sophomore season when he was accidently shot above his left ankle at a sport-shooting range leaving him unable to continue playing football. The University honored Hunt’s scholarship despite the fact that he was not physically able to play on the football team for his four years at UM. This act shown by the University was something Hunt never forgot.
It was through Hunt’s experience at theUniversity of Miami that he saw firsthand the power of education and athletics and he vowed to give back to the school once he was in a position to do so.
“Ken exemplifies what it means to be a true student-athlete”, said Director of Athletics Blake James.
“Ken competed at a very high level during his time at Miami and did not let adversity derail him from reaching his goals. He has gone on to be very successful professionally and has never forgotten the role Miami played in helping him get there. We are grateful to Ken for this commitment and for what it means to our entire athletic department.
1st by a mile!

Good for them. I think universities should be required to treat these scholarships as binding in the event of physical incapacity, but I don't think they are.
Will $1.5 MM earn enough to endow a scholarship in perpetuity? Right now, the rates of return don't seem like they would keep pace with the current trajectory of tuition, but maybe they'll let it accrue some interest for a few years before they start raiding the fund.

The earliest the next time they'll practice is Dec 12. Haven't since Pitt. Makes sense.

Let's not forget our #15 basketball team plays tomorrow vs. Green Bay, a decent 5-2 team with solid wins over ECU and FGCU and the two losses to a very good Wisconsin team and a not quite as good Ga State team. Gametime is 2pm. My first love is U football, but since this topic gives me nausea, focusing on Coach L and his boys is way better than Pepto-Bismol.

No practice until Dec 12 at earliest
Matt Porter (@mattyports) tweeted at 6:28 PM on Fri, Dec 05, 2014:
Got word that Miami won't practice until Friday (Dec. 12) at the earliest, a full 2 weeks without practice. Last time in pads was Pitt game.

SJM:
I remember not being particularly happy with the play of the U that day in the Sugar vs. the Volunteers, as I was so sick of listening to the folks in orange the day beforehand that I just wanted that win. Never could stand a U loss, in spite of watching lots of losing in the '70s until Lou Saban brought in Jim Kelly. Carl Selmer just didn't do much for the U or me.
WWIM:
No harm, no foul.Sorry if my comment was clearly noted as sarcasm. Putting things in print misses much. However, I was definitely being sarcastic about JJ. Ain't no way he'd ever return, but I'll bet he'd be willing to assist with UM coach who was interested in learning from him. I have to wonder if AG's ego could permit such a thing. My issue all along has been his inflexibility. Screwing up is one thing...being human. Screwing up in the same way repeatedly is just stupid.
As for the U sticking with AG because he took the high road and was loyal during the Shapiro debacle, I can only live with this for so long. If my wife stuck with me through lots of trying time and low-salary years, I'd show a lot of loyalty and appreciation. Regardless, if I caught her fooling around, the loyalty and appreciation are out the window. The U needs to understand what they're doing if they keep AG here at this point. His welcome has been worn out. Keeping him here an extra year, barring a miracle next year in terms of football progress, causes so much damage to the program to put the U back way more than just a year, if ever, in terms of ever being able to turn the ship again. I hope I'm wrong, but.....
Moving on, let's go, Coach L. Kick some Phoenix ass manana!

Miami, Donna and Blake James don't give two sh*ts about a football program. They only want those ACC checks. They will not save the football team and would let Al coach forever. They are losers just like he is. Miami's only hope is a football president. Hopefully they fire Blake for being weak and fire Al for being a loser.

Wow. This FU hoops team is falling apart this season, ever since the loss to the U, although especially tonight vs. the Jayhawks. On the road, up by 15 at the half, and now down by 7 with 3 minutes left. 14 points scored by the turds in the second half so far. UGLY. Kinda makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

The definition of a true fan requires u to bunker down and show your team pride at the bleakest of times like this. Real cane fans don't jump to another team, if anything, u focus on another U sport to relieve your frustration. Don't let the door hit u......

YUP! there are a lot of student athletes & competitive organizations at the U. They all put in a massive amount of time and effort to rep the university. Football may be the Big Kahuna but we can't discount the others.
"The Cross Examination Debate Association (CEDA) and the National Debate Tournament (NDT) have posted their first rankings of the year. The University of Miami Debate Team is currently #19 on the CEDA list and #17 on the NDT list. These lists reflect overall squad performance. The American Debate Association (ADA), in which UM finished 6th in 2013-14, will post their ranks at the end of the debate year in March."

He'll change his mind next week again, just wait. So will every other nationally hired recruiting exert, and they will all change it again twice more before signing day. Bakas is another one famous for giving every possible prediction in the weeks up to signing day, then claiming that he was right about every one of them.

Ferman does it on purpose, simply to get hits. He just makes stuff up. Then the 1% he's right, people praise him. The other 99%, he says a coach talked him back. It's the perfect strategy with no accountability needed
