Kind of a tough title there SOUPster...

BEERicane

With Duke heading to the NFL next year, he won't go out a loser. He will carry this team in his last game as a hurricane. Canes win 38-31.

Anyone who wishes a loss by Miami in order to potentially get a coach fired....or for any reason, should be ashamed of themselves and should not call themselves a fan. And if you tell me you are a season ticket holder and still want them to lose, that's even more pitiful.

No SOUP for you ........... :-)

DallasTX Cane

The Hurricanes have not lost to South Carolina since 1947.

Hope U didn't doom us like when the commentater says the kicker hasn't missed from xxx yards in his last 99 attempts....wide right! Oops.

CANES win 31-27.

Happy belated Bday SOUP.

WWIN

^^^^^^^ it's no different than losing to get the #1 pick in the draft. Like the Titans, they'll win by losing now. So it's actually better for them to lose now, so how could it be wrong? But that's your opinion

Go Canes

The difference is losing in the NFL at this point gives you a measurable, tangible outcome while rooting for the Canes to lose today simply feeds a self created fantasy that has no basis in reality and no real chance of occurring.

Plus it's just wrong.

Go Canes, it's gameday!!!

The reality is were going to be stuck at +/- .500 as long as AGs here. 7-5 and he returns.

I plan on it... No more season tickets, donations, parking pass or apparel. There's plenty others doing the same.

I've been shot down. Tailgates and football games are fun for the kiddies if you know what I'm saying. They don't really care if we win or lose. Season tickets are now for the kids. :-(

And I don't care if we win or lose this game, I'm over it. 11 years is a long time to suck.

Wow, Go Canes, I never thought of that -- the whole fantasy/impossibility angle, I mean -- the first two hundred thousand times you condescendingly brought it up. But NOW I get it. Gosh, I've been so naive.

So I'll root for a victory, followed by the pleasant surprise of the UM admin/BoT nonetheless making the correct decision and firing their football coach. Nothing impossible about that.

From CIS:

Lol even Duke thinks AGs a tool. Look at his face 5-10 seconds in when AG says he's glad to be here.

Well I'm glad you were able to find mine through the 500,000 bring back Butch posts you and a few others have typed during that same period.

Root for or against a loss, it's a personal choice. But the math being used to make a loss into a positive is fatally flawed.

It IS personal, and I don't see ANYONE telling you, Go Canes, what outcome to root for.

But seriously: I don't WANT UM to lose today. I want a new football coach. If a loss today has even a tiny chance of making that happen, I can take the loss in stride, because this season is already a smoking crater where a dumpster fired used to rage.

And if we won, and some faction of the BoT nonetheless arranged it so UM gave Al the boot, and brought in Butch, that would definitely be at least 1000x better.

Terrance Sullivan

Raize with the post of the day. Great job Brotha. Go Canes! Beat the Cocks!

Your timeline is wrong. That sentence describes what this program was when he got here. And that description is being kind.

And as far as Butch goes, I'd love to have him back too. But it's just not going to happen and you know that. What sense does it make to continually pin all your hopes on that?

Will Golden succeed next year? Who knows. But if rather go into next year hoping for a bowl win, a very good recruiting class and the emergence of an all American QB than praying for a scenario that's a total pipe dream.

1mg of Epi

Truth is, after kickoff I won't be able to root for the U to lose. I wasn't able to after the UVA game and I won't be able to today. I'm all talk about actively rooting for a loss. I'm sure all of us who claim to want a loss are.

The problem is were stuck. Al is a perennial .500 coach, who presents a good face for the U. The admin wants bowls, and a clean program. Al is NOT going anywhere with 7-5 or even 6-6 seasons. That's the way it's gonna be.

All that can change things is if they continue what they started w UVA. If after next season the losses have mounted and a bowl is missed he will likely be gone. Barring that, our future is as our present is.

So can I really root for them to lose? No. But long term, wins beget nothing more than third tear bowl games. What's the point?

See, Go, we're BOTH unable to let go of doomed dreams. I can't let go of the fantasy that UM admins will see the light and give me the football team I asked Santa for. You can't let go of the fantasy that one day, the 'Canes will play good football under Al Golden.

GAME DAY!!!

VA Cane

Lets go Coclk Hunting.....sounds like a cheap pornographic flick.....Duck makes less sense but it is The Duck Commander Bowl so that works.

No matter the situation, I never want to lose. I hate losing all the time...forever. See we do not lose football games here so its foreign.

I am not enamored with AlPa, and I do not see him as an answer or solution....but GC is right....I do not think Butch will ever coach here again. I like Butch and feel he would do well...but reality says at least not now. By the time someone here wises up, Butch will be coaching and winning somewhere. If he were to come back, I feel he would return us to greatness as he knows the scenario at the u and would take the steps to return us to the top.
Lets win tday, lets put our best foot forward.

Nobody here thinks butch is coming back. Those who talk about it only do so because its more fun to deal w fantasy than reality.

DallasTX Cane

I think the odds of Butch coming back are about 1%. A) He is tainted by the UNC grade "scandal" - fair or unfair, after what The U has just been thru the past 3 years they aren't going to come within a mile of any possible bad press; B) Butch may have great memories of his time here - it's where he enjoyed the most professional success of his career. But he would take any HC position of a major program IF any were being offered. His lobbying for Al's job says to me that he isnt getting even any interest from other programs; C) Prior history does not guarantee future results - I'd love to have Butch back and things to work out exactly like they did from '99-'03 (except we beat down OSU in the rematch!). BUT...the landscape has changed quite a bit, Butch is a lot older, who would his coordinators be?, etc etc. I can see how from the Admin's POV the risk doesn't equal the reward.

IMO if Al brings D'No back, he's completely lost me (I'm about 75% lost to him as it is), made his own bed and deserves what he gets. After that, it's a tired overplayed record but the Admin needs to bring in an experienced coach with a winning track record and the attitude to fit SFL & Miami. The tie is cute, but who the track wears a tie in SFL?!?

DallasTX Cane

Who the F^*K wears a tie...

What's the difference if D'nos fired or not? This is Al's defense, whoever the DC is will be running it. The goal line prevent is here to stay!

AfriCane

I actually disagree about butch coming back. if whats his face at Louisville can come back after the mess at screw up at the falcons then the mess at Arkansas then butch can certainly come back. hes also been cleared by the NCAA. hes going to be a UM lifer coach which we never had and will give us much needed stability. most important, he wants the job and he will lobby for it.
however, I do think its a low blow him saying the Miami coaches suck basically. it is true. but he was basically lobbying for golden's job, which he said he wasn't. that's a no, no in coaching etiquette.

Mountain Cane

Like many, I've just lost interest in this Golden coached team. 6-6 and 3-5 in the weak ACC says it all.

I don't think the school really cares about returning to the top of college football. Just hang around and collect the huge TV money that drives the game today.

Today's game will be one of those passionless "don't get injured" games. Many of the seniors will get a shot at the next level and they want to spend the next few months prepping for the combine, not rehabbing.

31-14 South Carolina

Wishing for a Loss is Lame!!!
If you really want Golden Fired...wait for a New President!!
12% Gear Up for Next Season Seats will be Limited!!#
Now Lets Beat the SEC that is a Huge Deal....

Mountain Cane

A loss will do nothing to change staff next year, so rooting a loss is just dumb.

That said, I fully expect us to lose. We are 3 point favs for some unknown reason.
