It's not completely far-fetched if we get blown out in the bowl game.

I still don't believe the admin would bring him back. Only possibility, IMO, is if the BOT REALLY pushes for him specifically.

I could understand the admin resisting pressure to fire Golden, but once they caved on THAT, why would they care who the successor was? Shalala's gone, and Blake James is going to have to try to adapt to some new situation no matter what.

UMike

I dont get the die hard loyalty James is giving Golden (at least publicly)... I would assume to help/not hurt recruiting.

UMike

I do think James MIGHT change his tone if we have a bad bowl loss, which these days is very likely.

Absolutely UMike

I think it's totally possible that the 'Canes do get blowed out, but good. South Carolina has been real bad, sure. But...

1. The Old Ball Coach is a Gator. Any chance to humiliate the 'Canes, he's going to take it.

2. OBC is motivated largely by spite. Any chance to humiliate a smooth-talkin' empty suit like Golden, he's going to take it.

3. OBC can completely retool his offense in time for a bowl game if he needs to (he won't need to), and has drawn up new plays at halftime to exploit tendencies. D'Onofrio thinks adjustments are a sign of weakness.

4. Miami is coming off a 12-point loss at home to Pitt.

5. Miami is likely to Trust the Process, and be the Same Guys they were on the day of the Pitt loss.

Ohio_Cane

I think the bowl game is going to be a huge goodbye performance by Duke. Also, a coming out party for Stan.

30CINCO

We are good, team has quit on OBC.

Where's James's incentive to do otherwise? Is Shalala going to fire him if he doesn't put pressure on Golden? No. She's not going to fire Golden, and she's not going to fire James for not firing Golden/not threatening to fire Golden.

If he backs Golden and Golden somehow recovers in 2015 under a new president, Blake James is absolutely set. If he backs Golden and Golden tanks in 2015 under a new president, James is probably gone -- but he can be interviewing for MONTHS before that becomes a problem. Kicking the can down the road seems to be THE key component of recent Miami ADs' jobs.

Posted by: 30CINCO | December 22, 2014 at 09:54 AM

It'll be an interesting experiment: both teams have quit on their coaches. One team's coach is an excellent strategist, and the other team has better talent. Who wins?

I think OBC wins, if for no other reason than this: he's not getting fired soon at South Carolina, and the players know it. So their commitment to staying 'quit' may waver. Miami's players know that if they really, really suck -- and maybe have a bench-clearing brawl -- they might get to play for somebody else in the near future.

UMike

Any decent coach with a month to plan for this Miami team can win, even with a team that has quit on him lol

30CINCO

I think SC players would love to ignite that hot seat under OBC. After all, he did throw them under the bus numerous times this season.

not for a lack of trying.

Plus, they came to the realization the BoT is happy with just getting to a bowl game.

Yea I've been a little sour the last couple days! I blame it on lack of sleep, which is clearly evident by the times that I'm posting!

jsy

I guess fans either have to be realist/pessimist or optimist and hope in golden but that means you're hoping for dif results but like the man says himself stay the course which is the definition of insanity doing the same thing hoping for a different result so the choices are pessimist or insanity for this fanbase I'm done being insane I'll just stick to being a realist/pessimist

And...Butch talking to Barry Jackson over the weekend:

“I would love to coach if the right opportunity presented itself,” he said, speaking generally and not about UM specifically. “There have been opportunities in the last couple of years but not the place you said it’s the right fit. Anybody who knows me knows it’s all-in with me.”

So, he'd definitely be interested in the RIGHT opportunity, but not just ANY opportunity -- but, mind you, he's not lobbying for the Miami job; he's just talking in the abstract.

The staff meetings would be EPIC!

jsy

The hard part is the sense of hopelessness that the administration makes the fans feel. I have friends for example who attended Michigan and they knew there was light at the end of the tunnel same things for my Notre doe colleagues who know if kelly had another bad year the school will not be hesitant to make a switch but this school doesn't give fans hope

THIS

UpNorthCane27

Thank God we didnt get this psycho...

Buffalo - Chad Kelly, a former local high school football star who signed a major college football scholarship offer last week, was arrested early Sunday after police say he fought with bouncers trying to evict him and a companion from a downtown bar and restaurant and later scuffled with police.
Kelly, 20, of Niagara Falls, refused to leave Encore at 492 Pearl St. about 3:15 a.m. and punched a bouncer in the face, Buffalo police said. Kelly’s companion, Brandon Hickey, 21, of Clarence, had been thrown out of the bar earlier and tried to re-enter, police said.
Kelly continued to fight with two bouncers and stated “I’m going to go to my car and get my AK-47 and spray this place,” according to a report.
Buffalo police officers responding to that alleged threat stopped a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck in which Kelly was a passenger at 458 Pearl. Kelly was forcibly removed from the vehicle, officers said. Police said Kelly kicked and tried to swing at officers as they removed him from the vehicle. They said he resisted getting into a patrol vehicle and struggled with staff at central booking.
Kelly faces multiple charges including third-degree assault, second-degree harassment, second-degree menacing, resisting arrest, fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree obstructing governmental administration. Kelly was arraigned later in Buffalo City Court and released without bail to await further court proceedings.
Chad Kelly, nephew of Buffalo Bills great Jim Kelly, signed a scholarship offer with the University of Mississippi on Wednesday. He had previously signed with Clemson after a record-setting career at St. Joe’s.

LMFAO! Somebody on CIS likened Butch to Omar Little, but this sounds like some Marlo Stansfield $h!t...CIS:

"This is his second media appearance where he tears Golden to shreds and sells himself and his accomplishments at Miami.

Butch is a cold, calculated killer. He is stalking Golden. He's sitting back, strategically plotting his next move. Every comment, every interview, a carefully orchestrated step toward the larger goal. This man knows exactly what he is doing. He is lying in an empty church somewhere, motionless, with Fat Al in his crosshairs.

The U Reloaded got Butch's competitive juices flowing again. He wants back in the game. He wants to assemble his army. He wants to battle guys like Saban. But first, he has to dispose of the man that's sitting on his throne.

Somewhere on campus, Butch is whistling - walking to the Hecht with a shotgun on his back, Dorito screams from an alley "Butch comin', Butch comin, yo!" as windows quickly shut and doors frantically lock."
