Nobody bothers to pass against us. They don't have to. That's our gameplam

--------------------------------------------------- Interesting, is that FSU's gameplan as well?

Passing Attempts:
UM - 363
FSU - 399

Clive Walford and Denzel Perryman named third-team AP All-Americans. UM says they're school's first AP A-As since 2007 (Kenny Phillips).

The one thing that might save UM against Spurrier is that I don't know if he'll be able to resist the temptation to pass.

CaneRock

Haha, look at CINCO collecting my quotes, you must loooooooove me! Welcome to the fan club CINCOOOOOOOO! LMAO!

In comparison to ours, it is horrible.

Which was my point exactly when saying our secondary was better than FSU's.

I know... Haven't really watched FSU much this year, but statistically they are bad on D. Running and passing.

Were we arguing that miamis D is good cause FSUs statistically is bad?

jsy

Whether Fsu defense is bad or good would you trade our defensive staff for theirs?

Follow along:

Well, if our defense is significantly higher ranked, and their front 7 is that much better, are we really going to go that next step and say that our secondary is markedly better than FSU's? I dunno about that one.

Passing Defense
UM - 9th
FSU - 51st

Passing TD's Given Up
UM - 12
FSU - 20

Passer Rating Against
UM - 26th
FSU - 57th

UM's secondary looks better to me.

I would love bo pellini as our dc just to watch Goldens reaction when Bo gives him that trademark stare after telling Bo it's betting scary and time to walk the safeties back another ten yards

1mg of Epi

Based on the stats, and I don't like just using stats because they don't tell the whole story, Our secondary is better. So I may have to admit I wrong .... BUT

1) what do 1st half vs. 2nf half stats look like?
2) what does 3rd down % look like?
3) how many INTs do they have?
4) how long has the D coordinator been there?
5) how old is the secondary?

I'm not asking you to look that up, just some things i would want to know before saying te 2ndary sucks... Based just on stats, you're right were better. That doesn't mean we are good.

Coastal Div. Total defense

#11 Vatech
#14 Miami
#28 Pitt
#30 UVA
#63 Gatech
#76 Duke
#115 UNC

Coastal Div. TFL

#2 Vatech
#40 UVA
#64 UNC
#106 Duke
#111 Miami
#115 Gatech
#121 Pitt

What does this mean? Vatech, UVA are aggressive sluggers while others swing knock blows but take a lot body/head shots in return. Miami is a counter puncher trying to win by decision

The difference between 111th and 60th is how many tfl per game?

jsy

All the comparisons are skewed bc vtech and uva don't deal with as many night games which throws everything off.

CaneRock

1mg of Epi...I think what you meant to say, was they don't have to pass that much to beat us. Pass defense in 6 losses...allowed 83 of 127, for 956 yards. FSU accounted for 1/3 of the attempts & yards, and 20% of those completions.

The same thing to be said regarding Chik and Clowney.
Chik balled out in the UA game and took home MVP. Came here and was asked to put on 50 pounds and didn't really do squat for 4 years, will probably be a 4-5 round pick. Clowney went to the SEC and balled from day one and was the #1 pick in the NFL.

It's the dumb sissy scheme. So obvious

Are you actually comparing Chik to Clowney because of a highschool allstar game?

Chik is a fine player but come on. That is a completely ludicrous comparison.

I guess some folks think football can be quantified by #'s #'s stats ranks and such......they are a small # of the game. you can stand up in front of players and lull them to death with these type of things and that's wonderful in the grand scheme of things, especially when you talk about a process and you are 6-6 with wins against JV teams and losses to HS teams.

Me, I prefer to be on the field constantly teaching, driving, motivating, developing and driving my players fundamentals and raw talent together to be a team that contends every year.

Guess some need it spelled out.....UM is 6-6 which is average....and several wins were against inferior teams. The coaches are not doing their jobs and have not since arriving. This is a program in decline that is backsliding.

6-6 is the number that matters, we are not relevant and the brand is slipping further into apathy and turmoil.

Dad State of the U; all the stats mean nothing, winning means everything.

Factor in the 50 yards per game opposing Os didn't have to traverse and all of a sudden this 15th ranked D becomes a 60th ranked D. The sad truth is, this isn't a joke.

Kickoff coverage is one of the worst and it is at 24.53 / game, best is 9 yards better at 15.49.

9 yard per game +/- difference doesnt move us up much, nor does it move us down much either.

Go Canes

This is getting hysterical. Really.

So now bad kickoff coverage is the reason our d ranked 60th?

Wtf happened in the second half of games where the other team only had one kickoff to field because the offense only scored once?

Stop. Just stop.

Ohio_Cane

Can we all just agree that this year's team severely underachieved and that all 3 phases of the game can make or break any game, then change the subject?

Ohio_Cane

Here, I'll even help change the subject:

Golden just offered this kid personally: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2122944/highlights/206727383

I'm fine with that but the case of the special team yardage when we never kickoff was just getting interesting.

Ohio, man i've tried this so many times but it never works. They are all like worse then a F'd up marriage lol

Thank you, VA. Well said. Statistics shed light on issues, they don't excuse poor performance or soften the blow of a bad record. We didn't get the job done this year, we got pushed around way too much by good teams and mediocre teams, and we weren't competitive in most losses.

RIGHT?!?!

Canezitis

Ok, so what are the 3rd down conversion percentages for converting on O and denying on D? I bet it's pretty terrible on both sides. O can't stay on long enough and D can't get off. That's a huge reason why our record is what is. Whatever they do going forward, that needs to be fixed somehow.

And what about the punt coverage in the second half.. Explain to me how those yards the ST gave up dont count. When the D isn't making stops on 3rd down then yes.. Those add up.

Does it sound ridiculous? Yea it kinda does. But it's also very true.

How many YPG did the opposing o not have to traverse because of crappy ST?

I can't even muster the energy to dispute how little punt return yardage affected our defensive rankings.

It honestly is up there with some of the biggest reaches ever.
