Who is @fbrumormill?

CaneRock

Seriously, has there been a school that's been trolled by recruits more than UM in the last 10 or so years...

IMO, there's no way Davante Phillips picks us. He's been headed to FSU for a long time. We may have made a big push for him, but I don't see it happening.

Go canes... I see you're point, that it's the same everywhere a school goes 6-7, but she was talking about this occurring after last season I believe.

In any event if there is a bad situation there I would t want a kid signing up just so we win some games.

If it's just typical post season BS she shouldn't say what she did... I don't think that's the case

Chad seems ok. Guess we can scratch him and Kaaya off the "Wants to transfer" list?

I posted yesterday that within every program there are problems. I was accused, of course, of defending Golden for saying that.

Losing magnifies everything. Big time programs like UF, Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan before hiring Harbaugh, Notre dame just to name a few are struggling. You don't think there are a dozen to 20 kids on each of those teams that are pissed about something?

Depth charts, homesickness, coaching issues, hirings, firings, losing, they all affect 18-19 year olds.

My question to this mass transfer rumor is this. Mark Walton is a Booker T kid, Scarlett a St Thomas kid, J Johnson grew up with most of these local signees. It's looking good to get a commit from PhilIps and Thomas from Central.

So if it's so bad, why are they still wanting to sign here? Dont they talk to their ex-teammates and get honest feedback?

Posted by: TonyCane | December 31, 2014 at 03:31 PM

The situation is beyond toxic. It can only get worse. The ONLY way it gets any better for Golden, assuming he gets 2015 and the admin does as most think they will, Al probably has to win 10 games, the Coastal and a bowl. In other words the trifecta of this years goal, 1 year late. That would simmer things down. But with all of the turnover and how long it takes Mark and Al to train people to play in their scheme that doesn't work, well that's one hell of a long shot and is very VERY doubtful. If Miami doesn't do something they are sending a message that is LOUD and CLEAR that Miami is out of the picture playing at the highest level.

TonyCane

Hearing Strong at Texas fired his WR coach and TE coach. He has the balls to fire people right after the game or when he sees no progress and it's only been less than a year at UT.

I also keep seeing on twitter that Barrow was somewhat forced out as he didn't wanna cope with not being able to voice himself openly and didn't like the way Golden ran the offense with very little contact.

Next year Golden is gonna blame the smoke on why he is losing games.

Posted by: laquinton | December 31, 2014 at 03:18 PM

To be fair, Strong has strong leeway right now. Despite the worst season in UT football in almost two decades, almost everything can be blamed on Mack Brown. UT fans (and very strong, knowledgable fans) here in Austin have faith in Strong. He'll be here for several years to come, so letting go of assistants creates no picture of a coaching regime in crisis. He has great freedom right now to manuever.

Golden is in a no-win situation. If he lets go of his coaches, he looks desperate, disloyal, and amplifies the image of a football regime that is teetering. If he stays the course, he's being stubborn and refuses to acknowledge the problem.

laquinton

Surfer, if Marky D is gone best believe that Golden would be out the door first

I saw Ice and Carrol at a Central game. Central coaches were openly saying that Phillips was going to FSU to be with Cook because he stays with Cook's mom (and I think they might be cousins), but Ice and Carrol were there on the sidelines putting in work. They did put in the work to get him and Jones. They had a presence, which is more than I can say for Shannon's boys. If The Canes do not get Phillips, then I at least know they tried.

By the way, one of the great fallouts from the Shannon firing is that a lot of good coaches left UM and are now coaching and teaching football in South Florida at the high school level.

As far as the coverage, you got it. It's basically a baseball coverage...FS has CF, CBs half LF & RF, and the LBs have the infield.

Like I said yesterday, a Pop Warner coach can tell you what they're doing on defense, that's HS level $hit they're running... Golden wouldn't last half-a-season coaching serious ball in SoFlo.

I don't disagree with you, but she needs to speak up when it happens. Now it seems like she is doing it on her way out. So is she selfish in seeing this problem a while back and said nothing b/c her son is playing?

Again, I don't disagree with her comments, b/c she knows the players I don't. and I agree our coaching SUCKS, but I still support the program.

I'll answer your question with a question: So if you knew of a couple of players that can come in and change the program (be sophmore's when Golden leaves) are you such a FAN that you would stop those players from coming now?

Again, are we committed to the school or the coach?

roachcane77

Ya know. if you're expecting an OLB to cover a slot receiver, (which is as EVERYONE knows a total mismatch on speed), at LEAST let the OLB knock his a$$ as he tries to come off the line, (instead of trying to backpedal into coverage like our CBs are taught.)

CaneRock

Example: We always here of a Field corner and a Boundary Corner. Those positions do not exists in the 3-4. With a 4th LB playing OLB allows you not to have a boundary corner b/c your OLB should have the speed to get to the flats. You can see a lot of time we get beat (i.e. USC game) our bondary corner stayed on the flat while the WR runs down the hash. The system that we try to run is asking the OLB to cover that with FS help over top and corner in the flat. Leave the dayum flats to the OLB and have the corner cover the deep route.

Posted by: Da U N Houston | December 31, 2014 at 12:12 PM

Houston...on that 1st TD we gave up, Spurrier ran 4-Verts...Owens had the flats...TH3 had deep outside 1/3s, but He had to stay with the #1...Owens had the flats, basically covering grass...Fentress had the deep middle, but He was held up by the crossing route of the #2...Armbrister had the boundary flats, but ended up on the #1 on that side...and Gunter had the deep outside 1/3s, and He was also held up on the #1.

So basically, we had 3 defenders covering 2 receivers on the boundary side...and TH3 had to cover 2 WRs on the field side?! Looked EXACLTY like the 1st TD we gave up against NU!

And that's the type of $h!t that some on here think kids like JJ & TI can fix. Only person I know can fix $h!t like that, wears a red cape, with an S on His chest!

Demons

Karma and S--T rolling down hill are almost the same , someone is watching what you are doing , ,an AD should have minions readying and gauging blogs for feedback ,and all other info avail to him not that he will make determinations on just that, been a manager for years , I listen and don't make decisions some one shoves at me but may use some portions of it in the future , hey wait isn't that like football .

BigWindyCane1

I didn't like it when I saw Butch take the UNC job, and I don't like it when I see Shannon take this UF job because they compete against us on the field and/or on the recruiting trail.

Shannon is being hired to open up recruiting in Florida to UF, and specifically South Florida. Only time will tell if Shannon has learned from his past recruiting mistakes or if he will be successful at UF. But Shannon will try to compete against UM for recruits - that will be his job, and I hope he fails miserably as far as UM is concerned.

I also think UF should dump T-Rob because he would make a great replacement for Paul Williams.

Posted by: Demons | December 31, 2014 at 11:44 AM

Many teams run the 3-4, we just don't execute it. And that is on the coaches. Either 1:The coaches are not bringing in/elvaluating the right players to run that defense or 2: DNO does not know how to run the Def.

I think its a little of both. I think Al wants DNO to run a 3-4 and DNO thinks he knows how to by reading a book. DNO is the wrong man for the right job. His assitance as well. The 3-4 lives and dies from 2 positions. DL and CB's. Our coaches for both of those positions do not seem to be familiar with the 3-4. At first I blamed it on the kids not having the skills, but you see other schools with less talented players play the same D with sucess.

Example: We always here of a Field corner and a Boundary Corner. Those positions do not exists in the 3-4. With a 4th LB playing OLB allows you not to have a boundary corner b/c your OLB should have the speed to get to the flats. The system that we try to run is asking the OLB to cover that with FS help over top and corner in the flat. Leave the dayum flats to the OLB and have the corner cover the deep route.

I promise it is not rocket science. I reviewed 75% of TD's against us and you can see the scheme if ass backwards.

Demons

I think , if golden is going to be here we have to grin and bear with it until someone with some cojones does something , that defense can not work with the speed we have , Louisville when they are not getting pounded has the kind of scheme I like , but they got busted in the mouth so much last night their legs went .

TonyCane

His hiring as recruiting coordinator being met with a lot of yawns on Twitter, which I found surprising. Saw these as a retweet. Don't know if accurate.

@JGJr9: This is the same Randy Shannon that once signed 7 WRs and 0 CBs. That’s what you want in a recruiting coordinator?

From 08 to 10, Randy signed 4 CBs. 2 of which busted out of school in a year. In a 3 year span Randy brought in 2 useful CBs. Think about it

Posted by: Go Canes | December 31, 2014 at 10:08 AM

I can't blame him for oversigning on WRs that year. Coker's inability to get commitments at the position at even a bare replacement level led to punters and cornerbacks being converted to wide receivers.

30CINCO

I hope he is able to be happy wherever he ends up.

Randy would be a good head coach in the mac or sub belt or one of those conferences, where he would with out a doubt recruit guys from SFL that were dissed by the big three.

ANyways F U Shannon for going to U F.....

Move on fellas...

Guys the real question is how the F@#$ are we going to generate or be excited for this upcoming year.

J'ville...I got no time to argue, or prove you wrong, and on SOME points I do agree with you, so lets just leave it at that.

I actually think UF hiring Shannon was a smart move in theory. Time will tell IF it pays off for them. As stated previously IF UM keeps losing and UF starts winning it prolly will turn out good fro them or at least appear that it did.

I was giving them like 20 hours a week for $80, so clearly it was not worth it.

What, and that wasn't payin the bills? Lol

I wish no ill will toward Randy.

He wasn't the best fit as our, (or probably ANYBODY'S) Head Coach, but he seems to be a good man, who has risen from a tough "life situation," to achieve a very high level of success in his chosen profession.

I hope he is able to be happy wherever he ends up.

NEGATIVE.

It required too much time, and not enough pay. I was giving them like 20 hours a week for $80, so clearly it was not worth it.
