The OL was so erratic this year, I don't know what to think. I mean, they had games where I could legitimately use the word "great" to describe their performance, and then games where they didn't appear to be trying, and games where the blocking schemes were useless against what the defense was doing.

I think Kehoe may be dependent on being a lunatic to get his players properly focused, and may not know how to operate within this more conservative coaching staff. He's certainly not a guy whose intellectual gifts jump out at you, but the guy does seem to have passion. I could see how that could be a problem.

The OL had so many injuries they get a pass. Actually, with the exception of th last 2 games they played very well.

And Louisville was unspeakably awful.

Raizecane

Why would Muschamp turn down the head coach offer from Houston to become an assistant at Auburn?

To me, that sounds like he doesn't have drive or initiative. If I was a Florida fan, I would really be pissed at that guy.

Yeah I was really surprised too. The only thing I can think is he either wasn't offered to job or he's been led to believe with a great season or two at auburn he can score another big time job.

A lot of contracts specify that they pay you less, or stop paying entirely, if you take a head coaching job within n years. If he takes a coordinator job, he may be able to double-dip.

CaneRock

With Henderson & Linder gone, the right side of the O-Line was a concern coming into the year, and losing Gadbois & McDermott didn't help. But am I the only one that thinks the O-Line is TOO big? Should we put more of an emphasis on quickness, over size?

USAFCane

The SEC hires tell you everything you need to know about college football. You want the best you have pay near NFL money. $4M+ to a HC a Ole Miss? Ole Miss who literally achieved nothing in football. Auburn paying $1.7M for a assistant. Does Miami pay that for it's entire staff beyond AG? Sadly, I still think Miami could get an coach on the cheap and compete for a NT just because it is Miami. Oh well another year of AG looms.

He'll do fine as a coordinator, and if Aurburn succeeds he'll be in line for a better coaching job than Houston.

@DanWolken: Ouch RT @wareagleextra: Muschamp says recruits would always tell him how nice housing was at Auburn. "It's nice to be on this side of it."

It all is fun to talk about etc - but bottom line is we had a better coach we would be far more fun to watch and win more games! Get rid of golden; he has PROVEN he is NOT our guy!

Agree, Raize. Assuming he does as well for Auburn as he did for the last 3 schools he was a DC for, he reinforces the idea that he is a good coordinator. But we already knew that. It's almost as if he is admitting he isn't HC material.

And I thought *I* had a pessimistic outlook.

jcane

I think Muschamp simply played the UH hc position to better maneuver a good deal with Auburn for a good salary while reestablishing himself and his career...and still be in the SEC. If he goes to UH and things are fair, his career is dead in the water. What are the odds he won't do well, both on the field and financially, at Auburn. There is no doubt Muschamp is a good D coordinator. Malzahn's strength is O, so it's a perfect fit.

This may be just what Malzahn needs to put him over the top, like hiring Bob Stoops did for Spurrier.
