This article was written for Canespace by blogger DJ Moonbat...
There's a whole lot of people claiming to know what's going on -- or not going on -- behind the scenes, and to know the motivations of the decision makers.
But we don't know.
We don't know whether the Board of Trustees is doing its due diligence to rid The Dude of this meddlesome coach.
We don't know whether they're actually laughing at all of us poor mopes while they cash their huge ACC TV contract checks.
We don't know who they are considering to take Shalala's place, and what that person has to do with the decision if any.
I do know that it seems really, really weird the blanket of silence that's going on, and the lack of even a statement concerning the future of various assistants, much less any firings.
Until a) somebody gets fired, or b) a statement comes out saying everybody is coming back, I am assuming that the situation remains in flux.
If I were to hazard a guess, I would say that relations between Al and Blake are not currently as simpatico as Blake's public statements would suggest.
Blake is probably feeling some non-zero amount of heat demanding change, and Blake being the consummate stooge, would love to be able to deliver.
Whatever we're waiting on, it'll happen soon.
It may be good, it may be bad, but there will at the very worst (from my standpoint) be an announcement saying the whole staff is coming back.
Until then, I remain cautiously optimistic.
Because I don't know what's going on, but it sure doesn't seem like the kind of situation that the "Powers That Be" actually want to keep on festering.

How many times does Blake need to come out and say Golden will be here next year and that Golden decides who's on his staff???? I've counted three times already.
Says Go Canes! Lol

I hope something drastic happens. A few weeks ago they said we were crazy for thinking Butch would ever coach the canes again. Today I would say that you're an idiot for thinking anyone other than Butch could fix this dumpster fire.
He wants the job and has turned the program around before. He has been investigated and cleared 8 times by UNC and he has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the NCAA. He cleaned up the mess left by Dennis and he will turnaround the mess we are currently faced with through DISCIPLINE! Butch is the guy. He has admitted he made a mistake and I am convinced he would ride the cane train till the end of his coaching career.
He is the football equivalent of Jim Larrañaga and is the only coach I can think of who is capable of turning this mess around and not jumping ship when things start to turn around. Al has proven himself a carpet bagger, Butch will stay the course!!

So now tweets are what we're holding up as "leadership" at Michael Irvin's U? Suggestion...make a statement on the field, spend your off season time working out & studying, leave the tweeting for fans & ex players.

Montreal-Cane,
All we need is Blake to say that this recruiting class won't be #30 when it's all over, lol. So we can all watch it get worse.

Ariz:
"Gut feeling on Tim Irvin
To start... Irvin has not alerted any of the staffs where he is going. He has not told his coaching staff at Westminster or his father where he is going either. So, you could call this a guess.
Last I have heard is that Texas was worried today that Irvin was not returning their calls. Miami is tight-lipped on it, but again Irvin has not told any staff what his decision is. I posted earlier in the week that Irvin's heart is in Miami and when the decision is this close, that is usually the deciding factor. Auburn still believes they have a chance as well.
This has been a weird recruitment and I could be completely wrong, but I see him announcing for Miami tomorrow. Enough people have been asking my thoughts and that's all I have right now."

AnthonyJones
Miami Central High School athlete Anthony Jones landed a recent offer from Louisville and says "I like the coaches there, they know how to talk to the kids, I like their program and they're a passing team."
But he says it's too little, too late from the Cardinals and that he's focused in on just FIU, where he's committed, and Miami.
"Louisville, I can't visit there because I'm enrolling early," Jones said, adding that UM and FIU are "both about even" atop his list.
Jones says he calls Cane coaches "all the time" and last spoke with them on Thursday.
He says he spoke with Al Golden, James Coley and Hurlie Brown that day, and that they reiterated they want him at Miami despite Da'Vante Phillips, who lives with him, picking FSU.
While it is unclear if UM will indeed make room for Jones, he certainly thinks he has a committable offer.
"They said they still want me there, that I can do special things at the U," Jones said. "They say they need me at the U, that I can do big things, get it back to how they used to be. Coach Golden said they want me at running back and returner."
Jones says he expects to arrive at a decision sometime Sunday and that "I'm just talking things over with my family, my mom."
He adds "I'm not nervous, but it'll be a tough decision."
Posted by: CaneRock | January 03, 2015 at 07:53 AM
One of the most plausible reads on the situation that I've seen goes like this:
UM did not intend to fire Al Golden coming out of the bowl game. Fan rage and decommitment/transfer issues, though, indicated a need to take some action showing that they took things seriously. A few token firings would do the trick.
But Al won't do it. Maybe it's loyalty, or maybe he won't be able to find anyone good who would sign up for what's looking like a one-year gig with a tenuous option to renew.
The U still feels the need to do something, and as players are decommitting, the intensity of that need will only grow.

AlPa has a bad disease too, and his frosty the snowman white ass ain't from Africa....AlPa got processola.....a serious disease from American NE that starts when you think reviving a football team is a miracle, but you did it against no competition.....then you land via BS at a failing football institution, and realize you don't know what the hell you're doing and got no damn business being there cause you can't coach!
Hey heard this new song, sung to melody of French song Frere Jacque....with a rap beat
Talkin UM Blues 2015
Where is AlPa,
Where is AlPa,
Here I am, hear I am,
I don't have a fucking clue
What the hell I' m doing,
Run away, run away.
Where is GoPa,
Where is GoPa,
Here I am, here I am,
Wearing a cheerleader oufit,
Worshipping my AlPa,
Run away, run away.
Where is UM,
Where is UM,
Here we are, here we are,
Cannot win division, conference or NC,
Run away, run away.

I dunno; if switching to the Crimson Tide meant I got a sweet, sweet boat like that...
Posted by: dj moonbat | January 03, 2015 at 09:29 AM
dj - think that scenario is very likely close to what happened. I'd like to believe though that the AD & Admin told him major changes had to be made & he has been resisting. For whatever it's worth, he is a loyal guy...to a fault. I can see him resisting doing what they've told him to do and the result being this sh_t storm.
Whatever the short term result is; I think Al's future here is done. If he's not already gone, he will be after next year. Looks to me like he is burning bridges with the folks that truly matter - they will strike eventually. Maybe sooner, maybe later but he's done. Leach did the same at TXTech - not in the same manner; but he burned bridges and wouldn't "play ball" and after that his fate was sealed. In the meantime, it's not going to get any better for the fans.

Along the way, he saw many a Hot Young Coach fail miserably when he had to figure things out on his own. "If you know only one system," Arians says, "you don't know anything.

“I think so many times, owners, general managers get caught up in who is being touted by the press. But
the problem with a young, hot, energetic coach is usually he has been in one system,” Arians said. “If that system fails, he doesn’t have any answers for it. He fails. It helps to have a guy who has experience in two or three general manager systems.”

Get off of Go Canes, everyone. He is very obviously utilizing reaction formation to suppress his true feelings for FSU (he is actively sending $ to that "school" - more like day care- after al,l his daughter goes there). Thus he supports Pyrite and the canes the way he does. He's dealing with a lot of internal conflict. Please give him the space he clearly needs to resolve it.
Posted by: BEERicane | January 03, 2015 at 09:55 AM
Irvin would be a huge pickup.
But I question how he knows he's not returning Texas coaches calls. Isn't it the dead period? Can coaches even call out?
Guess we'll know tonight, hope we can get an EE like him in early.

"Reaction formation reduces anxiety by taking up the opposite feeling, impulse or behavior. An example of reaction formation would be treating someone you strongly dislike in an excessively friendly manner in order to hide your true feelings. Why do people behave this way? According to Freud, they are using reaction formation as a defense mechanism to hide their true feelings by behaving in the exact opposite manner."

Ariz:
Another kid where things have been all over the place, as you can tell by not only my recent posts on him but others such as the Crystal Balls. I even just tweeted that I thought he would wind up at Alabama...but based on some last minute things I am hearing, I expect him to choose the Canes today.
If Cager commits today, he will most likely still visit Alabama, but he will be visiting Miami on the 26th.
So for the final time, my two predictions today are Irvin to Miami and Cager to Miami.
Gotta love this time of year.

Pretty crazy Ohio.
Would be two really good pickups!
Posted by: Go Canes | January 03, 2015 at 11:09 AM
I've had the disease since mid October 2012. It went into remission around August of 2013 and I thought, just maybe I had rid myself of this disease. By the end of 2013 it had comeback and its been painful dealing ith EbolAl ever since. I'm hoping they find a cure!!!
I know its hard but I decided in 08 that the possibility of Miami never really being the U was real. Miami could do it self a favor and get someone who can run the spread and identify the 100's of sfla athletes who can star in it.

I'M SO DISILLUSIONED ONCE AGAIN IN MY ALMA MATER. IT IS TO THE POINT THAT PRETTY SOON, CALLING OUR BELOVED MIAMI,THE U, WILL BE LAUGHABLE. MIAMI OF CORAL GABLES, JUST LIKE MIAMI OF OHIO.
AND, I AM SO PISSED AT OUR FOOTBALL GREATS, WHO HAVE DONE NOTHING AS A NOTABLE GROUP, TO HELP GET RID OF GOLDEN. HOW CAN THEY BE SILENT?
Posted by: ML Alumni1970 | January 03, 2015 at 11:48 AM
They are silent because they probably blew all of their money on strippers, coke and boats. Also, those former greats don't owe the university anything. The University owes them.
