Twenty things U did not know about the MIami Hurricanes:
1. The 1983 Miami Hurricanes were the first national championship team without a single player making an All-America first team voted by AP, UPI, the Football Writers Association or the College Football Coaches Association.
2. The 1987 Hurricanes beat 5 top 10 teams over an eleven game span: #10 Arkansas, #4 FSU, #10 Notre Dame, #8 South Carolina, # 1 Oklahoma and # 20 UF just for fun.
3. The 1991 Hurricanes gave up just 8.3 points per game in 12 games, led by middle linebacker Michael Barrow.
4. The 2001 Miami Hurricanes won their games by an average of 32 points a game over their opponent.
5. The 2001 Hurricanes beat two top 15 ranked teams back to back by a combined score of 124 -7. The worst back to back whippings of ranked teams in NCAA history. First #14 Syracuse went down 59-0 and then #12 Washington was walloped 65-7.
6. The 2001 Hurricane defense scored eight touchdowns and led the nation in pass defense, scoring defense and turnover margin.
7. An astonishing seven 2001 Hurricanes were first team All Americans.
8. Canes WR "Downtown" Eddie Brown had 220 yards receiving vs Boston College 1984.
9. Miami was Champion or co-champion of The Big East 9 out of the 12 years they belonged to the conference.
10. The Florida Gators are the only team to ever jump in “Flippers Pool” in the Orange Bowl after beating the Hurricanes.
11. The usually calm Howard Schnellenberger tacked on a late field goal against the Gators, after fans bombarded his players with peaches in 1980.
12. The University of Miami is one of four universities and the only private school in the nation to raise 1.4 billion dollars in fund raising between 2003-2008.
13. The 1966 Schedule would be a handful today. Colorado, FSU, LSU, UGA, Ind, USC, Tulane, Pitt, Iowa, UF, VTech.
14. All American Brett Romberg Center, 6-3, 297 was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. A little about Romberg during his time at UM...Did not allow a quarterback sack in his 46-game career. Never graded lower than 88 percent for a game. Started his last 33 games at center. Miami had a 32-1 record with Romberg as the center. Earned Offensive MVP honors by the coaching staff six times in his Miami career.
15. January 2001 -- The Miami Hurricanes suffered a 15-yard penalty during their Sugar Bowl game against Florida when Sebastian the Ibis runs onto the field and taunts the Gators after a Miami touchdown.
16. The Hillel Jewish Student Center hosted a bar mitzvah celebration for Sebastian the Ibis, an event usually reserved for 13-year-old Jewish males. Although no one was sure if Sebastian was Jewish, they were sure he was enjoying the celebration.
17. Gino Torretta hit Horace Copeland for a 99 yard td against Arkansas for the Canes longest passing TD.
18. In 2009 when Miami played FSU 132 players from the state of Florida were on the combined rosters.
19. In 1966 Ray Bellamy, University of Miami receiver became the first black scholarship player on a major college team in the deep south.
20. The 1988 Hurricanes were the first Florida collegiate team of any type to be invited to the White House by then President Ronald Reagan
what does that even mean? I fail to see the parallel.

WW is saying Al didn't blindly support Olsen... At Probably the darkest time in the kid's life Al booted him off the team. WWs point is why does Al deserve unwavering support even in the face of his incompetence If Al isn't even willing to support a troubled kid.
My point though is if we keep providing our financial support, the admin will not fire Al.... as long as he gets to bowl games. We need to stand up and say enough is enough.

They're telling us no stop being negative because it's affecting recruiting.
So apparently a recruit, say Tim Irvin, decides he's coming to Miami. He then sees a tweet saying Al sucks. He's surprised to see such a thing so he figures he should look into the team... At this point he realizes they were 6-7 in the worst division in football and 3-7 vs P5. With this knowledges he decommits.
They think we are completely, totally and unabashedly stupid.
eerrr! tim Irvin is from south florida and been recruited by Miami. he visited Miami frequently. watched all the games and read media reports. i'm sure he knew about the record. also he decommited to a school with a similar record. his decision wasn't based on the record. his uncle would know better. I believe's MI47 tweet.

Biggest obstacle for recruiting? Forget the cloud - it's winning. That's why Golden has now become a liability.
Hear it from Miami Central coach Roland Smith:
"When you're winning, kids are very impressionable you know. That plays a big part of it too. When you're winning everybody wants to be a part of a winning program. And right now FSU has been winning and getting the fruit of their labor for winning. Miami is just going after kids they think can help their program out."

I hear you. but Olsen's transgressions wasn't due to his play on the field. it was due to non football issues. if golden was a drunk and a wife abuser, i'm certain he would have been gone.

### UM and UF have talked about playing a football game in Orlando, Tampa or New York, and Orlando’s Citrus Bowl appears to be the most realistic option. Blake James said he’s working on renewing the rivalry but nothing is imminent.

Maybe you could give the program a huge shot of epi to get it revived... Clappy, Onionhead, and AlPa sure have got us on lifesupport!

Africane.... Olsen didn't beat any women. He was let go because he couldn't do his job and was bad for the program. Al can't do his job. He's bad for the program. He should be gone. The reason he's not... The admin has a different definition of success.
The question was whether the recruits are dropping because of negativity. MI can place blame where ever he likes, but fans pointing out facts aren't the problem. The facts are the problem. FSU fans keyed players cars for losing a playoff game... Recruits are beating their doors down

This program needs 100mg of Epi. If we all decide we've had enough, and stand up for OUR team... The program might have a chance.

common 1mg! olsen was thrown out for strings of on the field incidents. if not for that, he would still be here, even if he would have been a 4th string quarterback.
as for FSU, getting a car keyed is much better than the dark moon that's been over our program since last 3 coaches.

Olsen, Figs, and Blue were all Canes that messed up and made mistakes but we stopped supporting them.
Now AG and Co are messing up but we are still suppose to support them because they are Canes??????

I alwayd hated that swag shit....confidence and pride are one thing.....arrogance and stupidity are another. I have always respected all the title teams....but 83 and 01 were true champions....and acted like it. As a player abd coach who has been blessed with titles, I like that silent assassin inner pride kill them spproach. That was always my rub with Playmaker....great great player too much talk. Howver to each his own.
Hey Africane, here's a shirt for you:.
Front "Stagger....we invented it"!
Back. -Clappy, Onionhead, and AlPa
Comes in all sizes, green with orange writing Nike swoosh U emblem top front. All $ will go towards getting rid of AlPa
Posted by: VA Cane | January 10, 2015 at 04:04 AM
Sorry, I have supported UM since Fall 1972; AlPa was 3, Manny was not born. I have been to many games...every away game at UVA VT UNC NCSU Duke, Wake....many games in the OB....title games.......and I put my niece through UM. Lots of $ and time. This futility is on administration, AD, AlPa and staff. To blame fans for this debacle is ludicrous. Read what that coach said....kids want to play and win. AlPa cannot win.....well he beats sandlot teams. Win and they will come, so get a real coach who can win. Simple. Manny, keep writing and eating ...maybe food will fill your mouth so you cannot talk and say stupid shit.

Vishnu's letter is spot on. The elite players are going to play at the elite schools...if I was elite, I certainly would consider the 4 playoff teams if they offered....though I love UM....why would I go to play for a 6-7 team? Not even near the Top 50
...whst was that bowl....the duck call bowl? What an embarassment. I coach young kids starting HS careers.....we are big time winners....the only time they mention UM is to give me shit about how bad we are.FSU, Oregon, Bama, Baylor, TCU, OSU, GA, UCLA, USC, The Ville.....they mattet. The U...relevant no longer. Sad

Manny's take on Central and Walton is pretty accurate. I posted almost identical assessments over the last two months. Don't count the Canes out of the remaining recruiting battles at Booker T. And the rest of South Florida. I still think the Canes have a chance with Callaway, and I hope they can flip Davis. There are still a few good players in South Florida and I hope the Canes can pull in a few. The talent in Florida is growing each year, and there are rarely weak years, regardless of what the recruiting websites say.

Al can't out recruit his record. But at least some good news: once Al's gone, whenever that is, we'll be ok. We just need a good recruiter and decent Xs & Os guy. Hopefully this will happen before the hole Al is currently digging is too deep.

I do not want to lose.....I hate losing. .... I teach my guys losing is going to happen, ...but it is the greatest motivator of all time learn to despise losing and let it drive your work ethic, push you to achieve winning ways ..in Life Family School Sports. I feel that so many kids, especially SoFl kids, are tuned into the the teams that are winners....they also appear to be in tune to past winners who have struggled, but have seen the problem and corrected it....and appear to be moving forward....FL, USC, TX....even MI as bad as they were have a great leader in J Harbaugh. My kids love these programs....along with Bama, Oregon, OSU, FSU, TCU,.....Baylor, OK, even Nebraska. They ride me hard...they call the U losers....my qb says his dad loves UM; he also says he knows that stuff is old, says UM is no good...heck coach 20 years ago....I told him 13..he laughs and says whatever.....
there it is....no longer in play.....and this is a lot of the kids everywhere. Why? The 3 Stooges! I think AlPa with all the false hype, lies, Process, folders, book store self help references and on field failures have been the dagger as his failures are the deepest and the ones kids see. Clappy Onionhead are unknown....everyone knows AlPa has failed at UM....and nobody wants to play for a loser.
