We aren't down 10 scholarships... We lose a total of nine, 3 each year for 3 years. We voluntarily gave up 1 per year before we got the sanctions as they were to count against the total penalty.

Beyond that any room is due to players leaving etc

Posted by: 1mg of Epi | January 08, 2015 at 07:44 PM

Yes, that is my understanding as well. And it is also up to us how the 10 schollies reductions are to be done over 3 years. Also the red shirting is up to the HC. But some people seem to want us to believe that that is totally crippling the program.

It was 1977.

SOUP

“The Day It Snowed in Miami: 1977.”

While South Florida residents, young and old, couldn’t believe their eyes and still remember where they were the day it snowed in South Florida; the cold front that brought the cold temperatures caused severe damage to Florida’s crops.

The state’s citrus and vegetable industry were nearly wiped out and some 150,000 migrant workers lost their jobs in the state — including 80,000 in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. Then-Gov. Reubin Askew declared a state of emergency. So how did it happen?

A potent cold front had moved down the state late on January 18th into the early morning hours on January 19th. The powerful front combined with strong arctic high set up to our west over the Mississippi Valley helped transport very cold air and led to the rare snow event in South Florida.

roachcane77

I was there in Miami doing my "student teaching," (in my Senior Year at the U.) I was at Horace Mann Jr. High, we were outside, and we could see little flurries, but what I remember MOST was a kid who had a black "faux fur" trench coat on, and there were snowflakes sticking to it, and all the kids were crowding around him to see them. It was amazing!

Most people don't believe me when I tell them it snowed in Miami!

He could have played with 85 players if it was necessary and taken the cuts later right? He could also have tried to recruit for the full 25 and just don't fill if he didn't get the ideal recruit. So the impact is really minimal.

PHEW! Good thing Denson didn't commit the 1st time:

Former Florida State offensive lineman Ira Denson was charged as an accessory after the fact in connection to a shooting at a Tallahassee apartment complex last winter, according to WCTV. Denson was tied to a shooting of which Tarron Addison, 20, now faces an attempted murder charge.

Denson was dismissed from the Seminoles last month after being arrested on charges of illegal use of a credit card and petty theft. According to a Tallahassee Democrat report from March 7, Denson allegedly stole the credit card of Florida State teammate Mario Pender, who told Tallahassee police on Dec. 20 that Denson took the card. Pender went to Denson's apartment to retrieve his money on Dec. 22, but when Denson was not home, Pender took a pair of Denson's shoes as "collateral."

Per the report, Pender told police that he and Denson arranged an exchange at Seminole Ridge Apartments where Pender lived, and an altercation ensued. Pender's half-brother, Tim Pruitt, was also present.

Pender said he told Pruitt to give them the shoes so they would leave. After Pruitt placed the shoes in the car's trunk, the car backed out to leave and shots were fired.

Pender said he saw Addison point a chrome revolver out of the driver's side window and shoot three to four times in the direction of Pruitt and Pender. Pender said Pruitt started holding his head and saying he had been shot. A bullet had gone through Pruitt’s left ear and stopped behind his left eye, according to court documents.
Thursday's report from WCTV connected Denson and Addison prior to the alleged shooting.

Denson is now accused of being an accessory after the fact. Arrest reports show he texted with the accused triggerman Tarron Addison about a .357 before the shooting and gave him a ride back to Madison afterward.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Denson was booked into jail on Wednesday and posted $25,000 bail that afternoon. Denson reportedly told police "he would not have gone to the apartment complex if he knew Addison had a firearm."

Sunday 5pm is the meeting.. Sometime after that hopefully good news. We will also learn a lot about BJ when we see what happens to D'no. Also was told there was some talk about using a more Traditional miami 4-3 base, but that was probably nothing more than talk.

I remember the snow in '77. Thanks all Canespacers for bringing a smile to my old face. Magic snow for an 8 year old in Lauderdale.

Hopes:
1) Al is fired or leaves
2) Al fires DNo or he leaves - I would have hope in this case that it means Al is willing to scrap his defensive philosophy & bring in an experienced successful DC AND let that guy implement his (not Al's) scheme
3) ....

Well there is no #3 I guess. Anything less is window dressing IMO and so who gives a dam?

Contrary to some opinions here, The U hasn't become irrelevant in college football because of Al (not so) Golden. That happened before he arrived. "Not So" was supposed to restore relevancy. Epic fail so far

SOUP - Thx for the 20 points! Nice to think good thoughts and smile, even if only for a little while. Amazing how we dominated the 80's and early 90's. Even more amazing the talent & success that was the early 00's. Hubris and complacency brought it all down though by '05 and the last 10'years has been a humbling experience. I've come to believe Not So can and if given enough time will deliver a nice safe middle of the road program. That ain't the CANES tho!

Oh...thought of something...#3) Instead of showing the current CANES games next season on espn the ocho, replay the '83 season. If they broadcast 1 ancient history CANES season in place of the current season; how many NC's will we "re-win" before the current CANES win one?!? Before they win the ACC?!? The Coastal?!? At least ratings would skyrocket...fans love living in the past lol

DallasTX Cane

And VA - love ya man & lived in VA Beach for 7 years, but...lay off the old champion CANES bro! Bernie is my all time fav - 1st NC as redshirt frosh & contrary to some opinions not a 1/2 bad pro. When was Cleveland ever any better than during his few years there? No, he wasn't near a great pro but he always overachieved given his athletic ability & succeeded using his (football) smarts. What's happened to him after football is tragic and doesn't lessen his football accomplishments. Love me some Bernie Kosar. Same for Playmaker! Yes...he had a few personal issues but was the soul of every team he was a part of and no one ever out worked Michael Irvin. That's coming from Troy Aikman. Even at the height of those Cowboy teams fame fortune & success, Playmaker was the last guy to leave the practice field.

Anyway...2 of my personal favs. Wish we had a few more guys like those two over the last 10 years

I'm a bit confused about FOLDEN with this interview tour.. So bottomline we r where we were last year-- no staff changes This year.. AGAIN??? This has to b a joke

Brett

FOLDEN must HV nudes of Donna-- on the other hand donnas hires has been so abismal that I don't think she wants to fire FOLDEN. I refuse to believe with how terrible his coaching has been that the school will allow him to MAKE NO CHANGES TO THE STAFF.. The issues with the team
Is obvious -- FOLDEN is a great CAR SALESMAN.. U have to admit that!!! This guy puts a spin on going 6-7 coupled with the worst defense.. Yeah he came with a few stats -- however against quality opponents WE FOLDED.. Nebraska game was a winnable game, Georgia tech was a winnable game -- pinch me WE LOST TO PITT AT HOME.. Tracy Howard was a beast I've followed that kid from optimist.. Now he 4got how to cover??? Granted he don't gv 4.3 speed -- however he has great technique.. I can go on & on & on

There is a meeting with the players scheduled for Sunday at 5:00pm at which time the team supposedly will learn whatever firings are happening. We will find out sometime thereafter. Williams has supposedly already been fired, Carroll also is likely gone. Manny said firings won't be announced until after NSD so we shall see.

BJ told Al after the bowl game that he had a choice... Fire D'no or be fired himself. Al obviously called BJs bluff. BJ is still trying to force Al's hand. The chances of D'no being fired are slim. Although he wasn't in Dallas so maybe, just maybe....

There was talk of switching to a more Miami-like 4-3 base. Probably just talk.

LB

Just for a second, forget about people jumping ship. It's going to happen a lot more.

Do you know how hard it is to finish dead last in the Coastal? Does anyone understand how even more difficult a team has to work to do it with Duke Johnson, Ereck Flowers, Phillip Dorsett, Denzel Perryman, Clive Walford, Deon Bush, Brad Kaaya, Shane McDermott, and Jon Feliciano?

Even with sheer dumb luck, there was zero excuse for this team to have finished with less than 9 wins. Zero.

Anyone in the ACC would KILL to have those players. These guys will have great careers in the NFL.

The administration does not care. They hear the fans, but they don't care. Facility improvements, throwing players under the bus, avoiding the media, and willful failure to define standards are code words for "we have no excuse, but we have no inclination to fix them."

No coaches were fired. Michael Barrow may be at Auburn...

...so it seems like UM may have spun yet another fish tale.

When logical statements are made, the administration and now Golden calls them "negative."

Oh, and I don't see high school coaches complaining about night games.

NavyCane4Life

Why would Golden go take notes from the Cowboys! I would watch the Seattle Seahawks or the New England Patriots and mimic those strong teams. The cowboys haven't been good in years. Not sure what he could learn except how to be a mediocre team which he already knows how to do.

UpNorthCane27

Yea it is kind of wierd that they went to go look at dallas knowing that Brennan Caroll is your connect to go check out the seahawks and if im not mistaken Al golden worked in some capacity for the patriots a few years back.

W.E even if it is the cowboys im sure they had to have learned something!!!

LB

Golden may be trying to get a small job, because when the 2015 season gets here, he and the rest of the crew will have three sets of fans:

1. The ones who don't care or won't watch/go (now me). These folks will constitute the majority of the empty seats, lack of merchandise sales, and the general lack of emotion about the program in general.

2. The fans and students who will use every opportunity to make a mockery of UM at all events. UM may try to remove signs and bleep audio, but they won't be able to bleep out the remaining fans shouting "fire Golden," "you suck," or something more creative.

3. The final 1%. The stooges like Joe Rose and others of his ilk. The folks who are paid to spin, just like Washington D.C.

2015 is going to be an inferno of poo raining down on the University of Miami. And it was self-created, and thus deserve everything they get.
