Let's look at the total number of 4/5 star players on the roster post Signing Day 2015. University of Miami 4*/5* players on the roster, season record:
2006: 46 (7-6)
2007: 42 (5-7)
2008: 42 (7-6)
2009: 41 (9-3)
2010: 39 (7-6)
2011: 28 (6-6)
2012: 21 (7-5)
2013: 22 (9-3)
2014: 25 (6-7)
2015: 28
Miami loses three (2 to early departure, 1 to graduation) and replaces them with 6, including the transfer of 5-star player Gerald Willis. A stronger class could have really boosted Miami's overall talent quotient, as it was an unusually low number of 4/5 star players leaving this year (due to the low ranked 2011 class). After the conclusion of the 2016 season we could see as many as 6 depart, meaning the 2016 class will have to have at least that many players just to keep even.

TC,
It's hard to not count the RS though. It's not like they weren't available to play. Ask yourself this question. How many players are allowed to travel, and how many travelled? Anything else is just spin.

It's not hard to not count the RS; it's a piece of cake. All you have to do is to want to prove that Miami's situation was desperate, and not because of anything Al did -- like deciding whom to redshirt.

RS happens at every university in America, Al is the only coach I've ever heard that added this against his numbers.

True, and he did not have to redshirt any of them - it was his choice. But even with all of the kids who redshirted, that still leaves a roster that seems about 13 short of the 85 scholarship limit.

Typical al golden go to the scrape heap and waste a ship for a never going to make on the field qb. This dude is just plain dumb and he has nobody to blame but himself, when the season concludes next year and he is out of a job but we will be the ones that jobbed ourselves by giving a contract thru 2019. Once again he threw all his eggs in a basket on two qbs, neither of which would have been suitable to run our offense, since they both are mainly spread option guys. I don't know about u guys but we are in serious trouble at lb. I just don't see a whole lot of talent. I see good but not great players. We maybe have one player who can play mlb. We have at least 8 starters coming back on defense but with our schemes how can we be any better? We don't have much of a pass rush unless we blitz and then we don't disguise it so Stevie wonder could even see it coming.
We lose all out best offensive threats so how can we be better? We going to ask that dumb azz deno's defense to carry us, won't happen. If we don't beat fsu next year after they lost 8 offensive starters, it might be 10 years before we ever beat them again.
We did get some nice pieces on s. D. But in order to keep up with them we can't bring in 6 four star players and they bring in15 players or more that are 4 and 5 stars year in and year out, the only hope for us is to rid ourselves of that moron we have as a coach and change the atmosphere by hiring someone with some dam football smarts and is afraid to can incompetent coaches.

Add Warren Sapp to the list and let him negotiate the buyout of Golden's contract. He will put up a fight to make sure we don't over pay after getting screwed.

Golden has said this year we will play with around 83-84 and next year were done and will have the full 85
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | February 05, 2015 at 10:56 PM
> How would Golden evaluate the way UM recruited skill talent in South Florida?
"Well, again, it wasn’t a big skill year," he said. "We needed two corners and two safeties, we probably would’ve taken one more wide receiver, but we only lost one wide receiver, so it’s just the way it shaped out," he said. "We played 34 first and second-year players a year ago and redshirted 17 guys, so those 51 are all guys that are coming back on our roster. You can’t lose one, Phillip Dorsett, and replace him with three. It doesn’t work that way in terms of the roster. That’s not where we are right now. Hopefully we’ll get to 78, 79 this year and get to 85 by ’16, so we’re still at a cap deal. Again, Justin Vogel did a great job. We’re appreciative of him and his family paying for this year. He ended up being an all-conference candidate or he might have made one of the all-conference teams, which is great for him moving forward. So it counts, it counts as part of this class. The offensive line obviously was one of the positions that we were hoping to stay healthy, ‘cause we were? There, so we had to compensate there as well."

Good, accurate info as usual Tony. Met with the usual ridicule I see from the big picture crew.
Count the ones who traveled or it's just spin?
Is that a joke or real statement?
So injured players, redshirts and walk-ons somehow have to count now to make things better than they were?
I'm sure Nick Saban would have had McDermott out there on crutches playing like an All American. Undersized Demetrius Jackson who desoerately needed a year to develop? Would have been a real game changer but Golden CHOSE to redshirt him.
Lol.
Never let the facts get in the way of tunnel vision hate.
Next we'll here all this is bs. That we got down to 70 because Golden was too inept to fill the roster with good players, not because he was under strict orders to shave numbers in anticipation of heavy sanctions. A fate we were saved from only by miracle, the NCAA's own evil, greed and ineptitude taking away any shot of making us the example they so desperately wanted us to be.
But I forgot, all that was made up anyway.
Tony if you get the chance, back out players lost to injury and the ones redshirted "by choice" and see where this roster ended up.
Golden 100%. Every other factor 0%.
