Let's look at the total number of 4/5 star players on the roster post Signing Day 2015. University of Miami 4*/5* players on the roster, season record:
2006: 46 (7-6)
2007: 42 (5-7)
2008: 42 (7-6)
2009: 41 (9-3)
2010: 39 (7-6)
2011: 28 (6-6)
2012: 21 (7-5)
2013: 22 (9-3)
2014: 25 (6-7)
2015: 28
Miami loses three (2 to early departure, 1 to graduation) and replaces them with 6, including the transfer of 5-star player Gerald Willis. A stronger class could have really boosted Miami's overall talent quotient, as it was an unusually low number of 4/5 star players leaving this year (due to the low ranked 2011 class). After the conclusion of the 2016 season we could see as many as 6 depart, meaning the 2016 class will have to have at least that many players just to keep even.

You Golden lovers really think we accomplished a lot yesterday smdh.... since when is the 23rd or 26th ranked class ok at the University of Miami which has more talent within an hour of campus than any school in the country? Keep lowering those expectations to stay postivie

I'm sure if we added that five-star recruit at DT to these rankings we probably move up a few spots.
So would 18th or 19th be ok for those so riled up?
Doubt it.

Correct. Can't play until 2016 when we have a few DL leaving.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | February 05, 2015 at 02:42 PM
The Canes did not do well yesterday that is something we can not argue, now there are some kids out there uncommitted who if they decide to commit will make this average class into a good class. With that being said, i hope this 2016 class of committed players decide to stick with the CANES no matter what because Golden's ass is gonna be on that hot seat until he is canned, i always have hope going into a new season and will always call for a 15-0 record now but its really a toss up.
WWIN happy birthday to the one and only agent that makes it happen around hea !!

Posted by: CaneRock | February 05, 2015 at 02:46 PM
What Miami showed yesterday is more proof that they're no longer an elite football institution to choose from at a local level. The fans didn't create that, hell, Al really didn't create that, Miami did. We already knew Miami wasn't elite nationally, now we know they aren't locally.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | February 05, 2015 at 02:51 PM
At the end of the day, a borderline top 25 class should translate to a top 25 finish and that is progress for the current staff. Instead of crushing, welcome to the class of 15 to the U and hope they exceed which on here appears very low expectations.
Meanwhile, the gulf between Canes and FSU grows. Another mediocre season followed by the retention of AG the FSU/Cane rivalry will be akin to Miami/FIU.
I'm going to put this out there, short of a miracle season (Kaaya becomes elite), this is AG's last season. No way the school suffers more of the sameIMO.
It is do or die for AG. Either way, role on the 15 season. I predict this time next year we'll all be a much happier bunch of fans.

It's not too early to start thinking about composition of a search committee for our new head coach (because Al Golden's days are clearly numbered).
I'd like to hear some ideas for prospective members of a solid UM search committee (which likely will be formed soon after the last game of the 2015 season - if not sooner).
Here's my first draft:
Jimmy Johnson
Howard Schnellenberger
Dwayne Johnson ("The Rock")
What do you guys think?
Posted by: 2002nemo | February 05, 2015 at 03:12 PM
I love Marshawn Lynch's game as much as the next guy, but there's no way I'd give a RB a bigtime deal. Seattle needs WRs or a TE. Then they could draft any number of really good RBs.

But my understanding is that Sapp did NOT get screwed. Instead, he got arrested.
Besides, if we want to go in "that" direction, why not add Uncle Luke to the list, unless you think the "game" has passed him by? At least he has the right attitude.

Howard can't be considered for a coaching position. (He won't "turn the program around".) But certainly, his input on the selection of a replacement coach would be of value.

Posted by: USAFCane | February 05, 2015 at 03:38 PM
I deliberately omitted Butch Davis from the search committee list.
Obviously, he's a potential "searchee" (i.e., a candidate for the job) rather than a viable "searcher" (like Howard and Jimmy - both of whom are available locally and no doubt would be willing to help with the search and selection of a new head coach).
Posted by: 2002nemo | February 05, 2015 at 03:39 PM

Since we are in musical mode...I am always...heres a quote....if we do not turn this thing around sometime in the next few years...
HHHope I Di Di Die before I ge ge get old!!!!!!
The Who "My Generation"
First let me give you some fact that so many seem to not know...I understand you got to be there.....
When you lose you lose as a TEAM everyone HC Staff Players own it....you dont blame one play (Fiasco Bowl Excuse Makers) or one person...its everyone. Remember TEAM Together Everyone Wins Mightily!!! We all win or lose together.....the leader has to set that tone...but we all share in it.
In the long run, I see this as a long series of buffoonary by a lot of people. Cokers appointment while heartwarming was a mistake...you do not do it that way you find a coach, not what kids attached to the situation want...be adults. Randys hire....again the feeling and pressure to hire a inside guy who had no HC experience and base it on hiring a guy to be EOE correct, hire the best coach not a guy because he is black or white!! The Shapiro incident should have been nipped....not blamed on RS he knew it was bad and bet he wanted Nev gone....then fire him based on it. The AD situation with Kirby, then BJ....bad choices. The hiring of AlPa.....not remotely qualified to coach outside the MAC...turnaround at Temple does not equate turnaround at a former NC....he cannot do it.
Currently, since 2003 the U has made so many bad decisions on and off the field that have resulted in fiasco folly and failure that after 11 years there is no way to win. AlPa is a good man a bad coach.
The whole U saga has weighted the program...We have not had a great one here...I mean great...we have not had a lot of greats here in a long time. The great kids see the losing, the record, the failures, the problems, the coaching turnovers,
the slickness and shallowness of the process, AlPa cannot recruit inner city kids cause he dont know da streets, the many other great visible schools that are winning.....in the spotlight....and thats where they go. We do get some good ones....but not enough elite and good ones to be the best. We get some good ones and average ones...with an occassional star one...but it is not working. I do agree the NCAA incident has affected depth....we get some good ones to start....but just average guys behind them to fill a roster spot. That is not just on AlPa....that is on Administration, BOD, AD and the whole 11 year+ fiasco know as UM football. It is a giant mess that is painful.JMO

Yeah Jimmy is eliminated. If he isn't going to coach no need in getting any advise from him.
We should've known he was DEAD A Wrong on Folden. Remember this gem on Dave Wannstedt
''I think Dave is a great football coach, and I think people are going to find out how great a coach he is,'' Johnson said. ''When you get right down to it, I think he is a better football coach than what I am. He's got the passion for the game. He loves dealing with the players. I really believe he's going to give them the spark to make this organization better.''

Try again, TLuv.
"James is 203 pounds right now, was about 186 at our camp, watched him grow, watched him develop, so we’re excited about him."
"RJ [Richard] McIntosh might be the most underrated player down here, a guy that we got to know when he was 245 pounds. He’s now 278 pounds, a basketball player, athletic."
"He’s doing great. He’s already 245 pounds and our trainer’s trying to slow him down."
Posted by: LB | February 05, 2015 at 07:38 AM
My "wrong" comment wasn't that he didn't talk about players getting bigger. It was that getting bigger means you're getting slower. That's just not true.
Also I'm pretty sure the comment saying "our trainer's trying to slow him down"was about Scott Patchan and was in reference to the speed at which his recovery is going. When you get really competitive athletes they always want to hurry the process instead of letting the tissue heal. They always want to start running and cutting and other things ahead of time. He also could have meant trying to "slow down" the rate of weight gain because you don't want to gain too much weight in rehab, because that could cause an athlete to become less explosive. But as long as the increased mass is combined with increased force production the player shouldn't slow down at all.
Just wanted to clarify.

Post National Signing Day: Grading the Miami Hurricanes Recruiting Class Position-by-Position
Wednesday was the biggest day for people that follow high school recruiting religiously. Wednesday is finally the day that kids pledge their commitments to college’s, to the delight or dismay of fans around the country.
For the second straight year, the Miami Hurricanes had a relatively quiet National Signing Day — which is not always a bad thing. Miami landed some big commits on Wednesday, while also losing some to other schools.
With National Signing Day all wrapped up, let’s grade the Canes’s recruiting class, position-by-position.
