Let's look at the total number of 4/5 star players on the roster post Signing Day 2015. University of Miami 4*/5* players on the roster, season record:
2006: 46 (7-6)
2007: 42 (5-7)
2008: 42 (7-6)
2009: 41 (9-3)
2010: 39 (7-6)
2011: 28 (6-6)
2012: 21 (7-5)
2013: 22 (9-3)
2014: 25 (6-7)
2015: 28
Miami loses three (2 to early departure, 1 to graduation) and replaces them with 6, including the transfer of 5-star player Gerald Willis. A stronger class could have really boosted Miami's overall talent quotient, as it was an unusually low number of 4/5 star players leaving this year (due to the low ranked 2011 class). After the conclusion of the 2016 season we could see as many as 6 depart, meaning the 2016 class will have to have at least that many players just to keep even.

In other news....
SPOKANE, Wash. – The family of a Seahawks fan who died after the Super Bowl says he would have enjoyed the dig at the team they put in the last line of his obituary:
“We blame the Seahawks lousy play call for Mike’s untimely death.”
The obituary for Michael Vedvik appeared today in The Spokesman-Review.
His wife Stephanie Vedvik says he would have thought the line was hysterical.
The 53-year-old Kent man actually didn’t see the game. He recorded the game, intending to watch it later, and went to sleep not feeling well, thinking it was indigestion or stress. He died in bed.

So, according to ITU, we offered QB Evan Sheriffs and he committed. That's our 2015 qb. Very underrecruited and unpolished but has a very nice arm. Needs a MINIMUM 2 years on campus to ever play a down. Career backup at Miami, IMO, but good for depth

Just watched the new QB's video. Dude is unreal accurate. Does anyone know why a 6'6 QB with a 4.0 GPA and incredible accuracy on a 12-1 team only had offers from VMI and Columbia? Obviously much isn't known on him but I'm trying to figure out his down side.

He just started playing, he's skinny as a stick, and he looks like he's twelve.
But still. The kid can throw.

He was injured I believe.

Fun question.
If you got to build your own all time best COLLEGE team based off former and current Hurricane players; Whose your starting QB? be prepared to defend your pic.
Posted by: Cane Since 1982 | February 05, 2015 at 08:17 PM
Steve Walsh or Ken Dorsey

I thought Dorsey first, but I look at all the talent he had that did a lot of work for him.

KY,
Been good. Ive been checking in here to read the articles and a few post, but nothing I wanted to get involved in. NSD always pulls everyone back for a few comments.
Ive got a month left here at Ft Benning and then Im headed up to Ft Drum (upstate NY) to take company command. Im going to freeze my balls off. I think it is a cruel joke by the Army to send a S. Florida kid to Hawaii for his first duty station and then NY.

If your going to go that route 86. Then you have to say Brock Berlin for his come back against his own team.

Thanks for your service brother...be well and don't forget your mittens.

Bernie is a good pick too. I pick Dorsey for the little things like leadership and accountability. I loved watching him work the OL on the sideline. Dorsey is the reason I started watching.

Correct me if I am wrong but I am counting just 70 scholarship players for the Hurricanes in their opening game against Louisville (69 recruits, one transfer). In addition, 2 of them did not play in 2014 due to injury and suspension, and a third player transferred less than two weeks later. I knew that we were under the scholarship limit, I had no idea that we were that far under the limit. And roughly 16 were redshirted. Were we really that low in overall depth?
By my count here's the scholarship players that we had on opening day last season:
Class, Position, Name
2011 DB-Dallas Crawford
2012 DB-Deon Bush
2012 DB-Tracy Howard
2012 DB-Antonio Crawford
2012 DB-Ladarius Gunter

Shirreffs honestly reminds me of Ryan Williams when he was 18. Tall kid, lean, big arm, makes good throws. Needs to learn the game, needs better mechanics. Not mad at all at the pickup. Def better than taking no QB

Tony, GoCanes tried to tell people this a month or two ago, but was met with the normal responses from the masses with anything he posts.

Sorry, left out Ryan Williams. That makes it 71.
Posted by: TonyCane | February 05, 2015 at 10:40 PM
Then factor that we lose 12 players this year to graduation, early departure, or transfer. We just added 21. That would bring our total scholarship load to 80.
Between last year and this year (if my count is right), we should be close to having addressed any remaining scholarship sanctions.
Posted by: TonyCane | February 05, 2015 at 10:41 PM
All right, one more. Nantambu-Akil Fentress was a walk-on who received a scholarship (right?!) That makes 72 going into opening day.
Still, I had no idea that the roster level may have been this low.
Posted by: TonyCane | February 05, 2015 at 10:43 PM
Golden has said this year we will play with around 83-84 and next year were done and will have the full 85
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | February 05, 2015 at 10:56 PM
Looking back at each signing classes under Golden, the first two were wrecked by very early departures or failures to qualify. TWENTY ONE of the fifty two players that committed in 2011 and 2012 were off the team within two seasons, and an additional three failed to qualify. The majority came from the 2012 class. It's part of the reason that our roster level was depleted.
2011:
Failed to qualify:2 (Grooms, Kinard)
Left after one year: 1
Left after two years: 4 (Grimble, Finnie, Johnson, Paul) *not counting Botts
2012:
Failed to qualify:1 (Jean-Louis)
Left after one year: 10 (Briscoe, Carter, Davis, Dewey, Dillard, Ivery, Terry, Thompson, Witt, Lockhart)
Left after two years: 4 (Blue, Dortch, Hoilett, Hope)
2013:
Failed to qualify:3 (Bond, Lockley, Griffith)
Left after one year: 2 (Olsen, Sandland)
Left after two years: 1 (Lewis)
2014:
Failed to qualify: none
Left after one year: 1 (Hester)
