Miami’s offense compiled its most explosive output in over a decade, and the Hurricanes completed a four-game sweep of visiting Rutgers with a resounding 25-4 victory in the series finale Sunday.
Miami (4-0) scored its most runs since May 2, 2003, when the Hurricanes beat Pace 27-1 at Mark Light Field. The resounding win capped off the Hurricanes’ first four-game sweep since they beat Savannah State in four straight – also in 2003.
“It was a great game for us" said UM head coach Jim Morris. "We played well – in particular, we swung the bat [well]. Sometimes there were a few weeks where we didn’t score 25 runs combined these last few years. I think the [new] ball makes a difference, but I think our guys are stronger too.”
Twelve different Hurricanes recorded hits, eight players recorded multi-RBI games, and the hosts pounded out a 12-run fourth inning to jump out to an 18-4 advantage. Sporting a more-than-comfortable lead by the middle innings, Miami tacked on four runs in the sixth, two more in the seventh and added a solo home run from freshman Malik Rosier in the eighth to surpass the 20-run mark for the first time since 2009.
Junior David Thompson connected on Miami’s first home run of the season, a three-run blast in the game-turning fourth when the Hurricanes sent 16 batters to the plate. Thompson recorded all four of his RBI in the inning, having added a sacrifice fly in his first at bat of the frame.
“It felt good to get the first home run of the season. I got a good pitch to hit and put a pretty good swing on it,” Thompson said. “But our whole lineup, everyone swung the bat well today. [The sweep] was a great way to start off our season.”
Eusebio opened the game’s scoring in the second, cracking a bases-clearing double off Rutgers starter Gaby Rosa (0-1) to give Miami a 3-0 lead. The hosts tagged Rosa for seven runs (five earned), chasing him after just 3.0 innings.
“There were two outs, and I was trying to get a good pitch and put a good swing on the ball,” Eusebio said of the hit. “After that, things took off. It’s contagious.” Morris called the hit the “biggest” of the day, after Miami had nearly squandered a prime opportunity with runners in scoring position.
Making his first start of the season, sophomore left-hander Danny Garcia allowed three hits and three earned runs in 3.0 innings of work. Miami’s bullpen allowed just four hits the rest of the way, as senior Daniel Briggi and freshman Andy Honiotes made the first career appearances.
But the story Sunday was Miami’s offense, which came up with 21 hits against the Scarlet Knights (0-4). Garrett Kennedy, who finished with three doubles, was one of seven Hurricanes to connect for at least one extra-base hit.
Rosier recorded his first career hit on a two-RBI single in the sixth, while freshman Peter Crocitto added his first career hit on a single in the eighth. Junior George Iskenderian finished 4-for-4 with two RBI and three runs, while slugger Zack Collins went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

I love Reggie Wayne, dude will be in the HOF some day, but does anyone else think Santana Moss was the better of the two? Say Santana played in NE with TB12? I think Reggie benefited big time from Peyton and being in a system that fit him.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | February 16, 2015 at 12:53 PM
I think Moss was better at UM, Wayne the better NFL WR...Moss is my all time favorite Cane, but Wayne was a better NFL wideout imo

My favorite scene:
Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

I always wished that TB12 had moss, wayne, or my boy andre johnson on the squad. Moss with TB12 would've made Welker's numbers look OK....

3-4 Defense in the NFL...Article by John Clayton on ESPN.com
"By 1994, only five teams were using the 3-4, and the number dropped to four by 1995.
Change could be in the air again at this year's combine, which starts Tuesday. Six of the seven head-coaching hires this offseason have defensive backgrounds. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio could move the Chicago Bears from a 4-3 to a 3-4, while coach Rex Ryan in Buffalo and defensive coordinator Wade Phillips in Denver are expected to do the same.
That would bring the number of 3-4 defenses in 2015 to 17, the most since 1990. This will have a huge impact on the 2015 draft."

How can we be increasing the number of guys excelling every year in the pros, putting 4-5 guys in the NFL this year in the top few rounds and Golden not be developing players at all?
Posted by: Go Canes | February 16, 2015 at 08:00 AM
I remember when I told you we had the second most talent in the country and you LOL at that thought. Then you said the difference between us and a team like Bama was 1st round talent, you said we might have more players drafted than them but we don't have first round talent. Well who's LOL now??? LMAO
Golden makes players stronger and gets them in shape and makes them mentally tough. And all of that makes a good player better and a average player good. When you get stronger, you get faster and quicker, when you get strong, fast, and quick you become better at what you do. Take Denzel Perryman, he came in a good hitter and he's leaving a good hitter, where's his coverage skills at??? I don't think Golden does a good job teaching techniques!
Posted by: WWIN | February 16, 2015 at 01:08 PM
^^^^^^ NFL combine is about... size, running, jumping, and lifting weights! All things that Golden does a helluva job with!

Johnson is a Dwyer kid. Need I say more? Lol
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | February 16, 2015 at 01:47 PM

Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | February 16, 2015 at 01:48 PM
See Ohio..if I made that same comment about Dwyer I would of been blasted for hating...when the fact is we dont get/keep Dwyer kids lol

Canes baseball moves up from 9 to 8 in the Baseball America ranking. They stayed the same at 14 in the Collegiate Baseball poll. They moved from 15-14 in the D1baseball.com Top 25 poll. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the USA Today Coaches' Poll have yet to be released.

Ohio... I wasnt sure...thought there was some sort of controversy at Dwyer recently
Posted by: UMike | February 16, 2015 at 02:07 PM
I've watched Kevin Beard's video of him mic'd up a bunch of times now, and I've gotta say, I love it. I think he's gonna do wonders for this WR group. He coaches like I do. Show AND tell how to do it the right way.
This move has my blessing. Jury still out on DL coaching move, even though I love the experience in the NFL, especially under Belichick.

I don't know good coching but surely this guy's NFL experience is a plus? Got a (far removed) Bilechik connection and likely cheap. It will still com down to game day and schemes and adjustmenst.
I think I read some of the AC are not coaching their traditional positions. If so who and any ideas why?

Carroll was with WR, should be TE
Hurlie with LBs, should be DB
Paul Williams with DBs, should be unemployed
Ice with RBs, should be ST Coord or even DB

Have any of my buddies from the northern states ever felt an icicle hit you in the face before? i was breaking them from a second floor window because they had grown into dangerous death pieces hanging from the gutters of the roof. I was unlucky enough to break one and have it slide down the fing 2x4 I was reaching with to hit them and it caught me right in the temple busting me open. SMDH damn this winter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | February 16, 2015 at 03:36 PM
We may put numbers in, and NFL teams need numbers guys....that's good....but my point is that we put guys in......but not game changers....elite players.....greats....HOFers.....because the greats do not come here anymore.....we cannot get them. The guys we get there are typical cats. I would like to see us get 7 first rounders again....that would mean we are elite again.....vying for titles every year. Perhaps mediocrity is good for some people, that's fine. I want to win and put stars greats elites HOFers in the NFL.....when you are doing that you are part of the college elite.....cause you are probably winning.....that's the goal.

Ohio i never ntoices how fing dangerous those things can be man mind you mine were at the gutter of the roof i have a multi family (3 floors). when they would fall and hit the drive way it was like a goddamn explosion went off
Posted by: UpNorthCane27 | February 16, 2015 at 03:45 PM
VA Cane...you don't need elite players to win 11 or 9 games, look at GT & Duke.
You definitely don't need elite players NOT to finish tied for last in the ACCC...again, look at GT & Duke.
