Its very possible someone like Patrick or maybe even Brown werent considered because they will want to be more aggressive..jmo

VOILA!!!!!!!!!!!

I mentioned the same notion ( aggressive, attacking, control-mode of playing DL. ) on a couple of other Hurricane football blogs and PREDICTED that Coach Patrick wouldn't take two steps on Miami's practice field!!!!!!!

raize...I agree...Im trying not to criticize the hire....Ive been well behaved today I think lol

I think the most important hire is yet to come. That will take place when UM gets a new Prez.

CaneRock

UNC...you're a NE fan, what was the D-Line like in 2000 & 2001?

VA Cane

Honestly, all the stress and pressure would subside if one AlPa started doing all the things he said he was going to do....mainly win. See its really all I want, thats all I care about. Fancy unis, swag, processes and folders, stars.....all those things may be nice for some. Man I develop student athletes...many go to HS FB....a good number to CFB,....and some to NFL....but they make grades....and win regularly.....ULTIMATE SUCCESS!
That's all I want.

BigWindyCane1

I like the new DL coach hire. No need to experiment by trying someone new in Kareem Brown or someone unfamiliar in Kevin Patrick when an experienced assistant is available. They have never coached in the NFL and may not be familiar with Golden's system. Brown can learn from working with an experienced coach, and Golden gets the benefit of the respective talents of both coaches.

He coached with Belicheck, Schiano and several other coaches that I respect. He has 30 years coaching experience. It is Golden's decision, and experience and chemistry in coaching is important. Golden knows that he cannot fail this year on the field or on the recruiting trail. He needs success on both. This is the best decision for Golden and the team going into the 2015 season.

TheeMackJones

How in the world do you know either of those statements to be true?

You don't. Plain and simple.

You don't know if he can recruit and you don't know if after meeting, will relate to the current players.

Posted by: Go Canes | February 12, 2015 at 12:38 PM

Well I do know that one Anthony Chickillo CAMPAIGNED publicly for one Kevin Patrick and I'm guessing that OVER SIXTY PERCENT of the returning Cane defensive line personnel WANTED Coach Patrick to coach them!!!!!!!!!!!!

#Swag16 DT commit RT“@A_Vasquez17: Keyshon Camp is now a 4 star on 247 too”

there are a number of players currently committed in the 16 class that will get bumped up as well

Go Canes

Here comes THE ALL CAPS proclaiming I'm "giddy" with the hire.

I'll offer again to never post here again if he shows me where that happened, like I did when he insisted I post all over town.

Lol.

So full of themselves and their hyperbolic manifestos they're too dumb to understand a measured response.

Anything not teeming with hate is treated like a total endorsement.

30... yea a few more will get that 4th star soon enough, especially after the camps and 7 on 7's

My bad but you CONTRADICT yourself! Because Kevin Beard absolutely has no major college level experience and has never coached in the NFL, yet he's going to coach the wide-outs this season!

Better be Hurlie if it's not Beard.

WWIN

So let me get this straight...

If Golden wants the D-linemen to engage and hold up a O-lineman some people think he'll bring in a D-line Coach that will teach em how to bull rush or swim move past a O-lineman to get up field??????? LMAO

Point is this... Whoever the coach is won't matter, you can only teach what is requested!

TheeMackJones

It's won't be a SHOCK to discover the new Miami, Florida recruiting czar will have NO CONNECTIONS with South Florida. Just like it wasn't a shock to find out Golden WASN'T going with Coach Patrick!

Heck, even the recent national HS recruiting pundits and South Florida prep coaches have openly stated that Golden has slowly and subtly CUT TIES with the Tri-county high schools.

Again, the low number of recruits from Dade, Broward and Palm Beach in the '15 class indicate which direction the BELOVED Golden and D'Onofrio are going regarding HS recruiting. And this is taken place with the FIFTH Cane recruiting class by Golden.

WWIN

Posted by: 30CINCO | February 12, 2015 at 01:09 PM

So basically we've been lying to kids and not doing right by them prior to now??? Damn lol

TheeMackJones

I'm guessing that Miami has NEVER had an incoming SIGNED class with less than 50% of the recruits from South Florida. Absolutely NEVER!!!!!!! And that's with ONION HEAD and Coker and Davis and Erickson and JJ and of course the coach whom began it all.

FWIW... Golden told Cane fandom that he was going to CHANGE the culture of Miami, Florida Hurricane football. Enter the new century of Hurricane recruiting methods, ploys, tactics and GEOGRAPHY. lol

WWIN

You know how hard it is to win 11 games in today's game?

Posted by: Go Canes | February 12, 2015 at 11:44 AM

Yeah, ESPECIALLY in the ACC! Wins are hard to come by in this league!

Sinistercane

Lol how did Mel learned anything from Schiano and Belicheck and both head coaches fired Mel ass, Belicheck did after winning a SB . You know how bad you have to suck after winning it all and still get let go

WWIN

Soup,

Just look at UM's football program, that's good enough for 10 LOL's a day for me. It's the biggest running joke in college football! Sure it sucks, but it's to the point that it sucks so bad that it's funny! Lol

We have to be able to laugh at ourselves!

TheeMackJones

Yeah, it does seem odd in an enlightenment sort of way. To go from being an assistant on a winning Super Bowl team to coaching the DL at MIGHTY Florida International.

I guess go, go canes and Golden and D'Onofrio KNOW something that Cane fandom are to dense to know about the hire. SMH

UMike

Ok fellas...lets keep it clean and the back and forth to a minimum...SOUP might be watching...

UpNorthCane27

CR... to be honest that 2001 patriots team wasn't known for its Dline they had their play makers at LB and DB on defense....

Defensive Linemen
97 Reggie Grimes DE
91 Bobby Hamilton DE
60 Garrett Johnson NT
92 David Nugent DE
71 Chuck Osborne DE
61 Riddick Parker DE
98 Anthony Pleasant DE
75 Jace Sayler NT UR
93 Richard Seymour NT R

The only two players that stood out that year on the Dline were Anthony pleasant (6 sacks) and Bobby Hamilton (7 sacks). Richard Seymour was a rookie.

Randy's last class had six S. Florida kids, 3 from Dade.

UpNorthCane27

"Bill Belichick gave Melvin his first job in the NFL as he was hired by the New England Patriots in 2000. Melvin spent two seasons in New England, serving as the defensive line coach. In 2001, his defensive line scheme helped the Patriots defeat the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI and handed New England the first of its four Super Bowl titles."

LOL but he was let go? not only that but he ended up at Rutgers?

OO man the nerve of some people at UM with the stuff they write.

Go Canes

My bad, that was his next to last. His last had 8 of 28 from South Florida, again 3 from Dade.

AfriCane

I don't like the DL hire. I don't want to see anymore coaches from the golden coaching tree. It doesn't work.

UpNorthCane27

Im Just going to do what I've done the past 4 years... Take a wait and see approach and pray that we go undefeated and win the National Championship

LB

"I guess this one was meant to be funny UMIke?

And he went to the NFL after temple not vice versa. I don't have a clue of the guy was a good hire or a bad higher but when you're comparing resumes, there is no comparison. So anyone calling this hire a joke is doing so simply to bash"

I don't know if you're serious. The comment is really funny, though. Keep that Golden tree alive.

UpNorthCane27

I def see Coley going off this next season. I want Kaaya to study TB12 and learn how to get all his playmakers involved or how to learn to expose a defense who cant carry one or two of his recievers.

UpNorthCane27

Dude on a Pale Horse

^^^ Kaaya needs to work with Kehoe and master the blocking schemes and work with Coley on getting the ball out. The great QBs are always getting the ball out and almost never get sacked.

CaneRock

Out of everybody on the team, Kaaya's gonna have to make the bigger gains. His stats were nice & all, but He's gonna have to show that ability to close out critical games, something I did NOT see last year. As much as people rag on Jacory Harris, even He led a couple of comebacks His freshman year...Stephen Morris also.

Beard and Melvin Chat With Media; Ready To Pound Pavement

http://www.stateoftheu.com/2015/2/12/8027751/beard-and-melvin-chat-with-media-ready-to-pound-pavement

1miamifan

This year I will not get excited about this team and especially the defensive side of the ball. AlPa, is stuck on His process and scheme, bringing in Patrick or promoting Brown, would have been a serious conflict on philosophy. So, bringing in Melvin, only keeps his scheme in place. Smh, why recruit kids that plays aggressive style defense and convert them to a soft passive ,every now with a lil pressure, don't want to give up the explosive plays. That's not Miami way of playing.

1miamifan

Melvin, is saying all the right things, game day same results as last year. Because, Al don't think that his system is broke.
