Dobard, a 6'-4", 262 pound tight end from New Orleans, played in all 13 games in 2014, catching 7 passes for 147 yards, including a 32-yard catch in his home state of Louisiana in the Duck Commander Independence Bowl against South Carolina.
He is expected to be a force in the Canes offense in 2015. He will be presented a plaque for the award at the 47th Annual UM Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet on Thursday, April 9th at Jungle Island in downtown Miami.
Among the Class of 2015 is Jonathan Vilma, the 2003 Kichefski Scholarship winner. Other inductees include football's Winston Moss, Kevin Patrick, Rusty Medearis, the late Sean Taylor and former assistant coach Rob Chudzinski. Also, baseball's Alex Fernandez, diver Chris Mantilla, basketball's Kym Hope and track Olympian Lauryn Williams.
There's no question that Walter Kichefski embodied the Spirit of Miami. Walter was associated with this university for 56 years as a player, coach and administrator. Following Walter's death in 1992, a committee was formed to raise funds for a perpetual football scholarship in Kichefski's memory. It's a testament to his spirit that it only took one year to raise the $400,000 that it took at the time, to endow the athletic scholarship.
This remains the only undergraduate award presented by the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame.
For information on tickets, call the Hall of Fame at 305-284-2775 or go to UMSportsHallofFame.com.

Like I said, the kid needs therapy. Anyone who throws away what he has over meaningless stuff, needs some mental help.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | March 31, 2015 at 04:05 PM
I was Kevin in high school and my "therapy" was the Army! It's never too late to start your life over. I hope he gets the help he needs.
