For those of you unfamiliar with the acronym PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a common mental health issue that impacts a large portion of the general population.
It can be caused by a variety of factors in people who experience a wide range of traumatic events in their lives. Most commonly associated with soldiers who experience the horror of combat, PTSD can be caused by suffering physical or sexual abuse as a child, major accidents, natural disasters, serious physical injury, terrorist attacks and any acts of violence such as assault, rape or robbery can all lead to long term, lasting effects on individuals who experience or witness these events.
The effects of PTSD can be wide ranging and far reaching on people trying to analyze, accept and assimilate these traumatic experiences into the reality of their daily lives. Excessive worry, anxiety and fear, extreme anger and negativity, depression, phobias and stress disorders are common factors that affect people's lives on a daily basis.
Losing to Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl in 1986 was bad.
Losing to Ohio State in the 2002 Fiesta Bowl was even worse.
Losing games repeatedly to teams that the Miami Hurricanes easily should have beat over the last 8-10 years is decidedly even worse and has led many UM fans into the utter despair often that leads to PTSD.
Even so, we encourage faithful Miami football fans like UMike to refuse to be disheartened by these tragic losses, to not be depressed by a few losing seasons and to find a glimmer of light, a faint glimpse of hope and a strong stance of faith that this too shall pass and that your mighty Miami Hurricanes will once again rise to the glory that we have known for over three decades.
The Miami Hurricanes football team will rise up as they gain strength and momentum and then be counted once again among the college football elites.
And let it be said that it was said here first and foremost at Canespace.
Amen

GREAT ARTICLE! HERE IS THE FINAL PARAGRAPH:
So as a new collegiate sports season is upon us, I ask all of you to be real sports fans. Support your team! If it is going to be a tough year, let your whole damn community know that you are going to support them through thick and thin and wear your team colors proudly. When some jerk disguised as a fan disses your team, find solace in the fact that you love your team no matter what and that your life is not so wrapped up in the final win-loss record that you must resort to insulting someone who has way more invested in that team than you ever will. Please, leave the coaching to the professionals. Stay classy everyone!

Spent a week there years ago. Did the Mackinac

That is way cool that you had the opportunity to be in my neck of the woods. The UP is a great place to live for sure but the winters are harsh, really harsh. We have about 5 Cane fans that live up here that I get to hang out with so its pretty cool to have that in Wolverine country. Next time you get up this way let me know, love to hook up and show you around.

Wolverines fans are great too, they are a little Big 10 delusional but they HATE Ohio. Easy to talk CF with them.

ACC baseball has seen some of the leaders go down this week, with Louisville losing a game to Duke (now 15-2) and FSU now at 11-6. The U is now 13-4, playing well, and needing to keep winning by way of sweeps as opposed to taking 2 of 3, although a series non-sweep win would be forgivable vs. FSU, although annoying! For now, the U has a 4 game lead in the Coastal over UNC. There's another big game today vs. V Tech, with the U currently leading 1-0 in the 2nd. I don't suppose the Cardinals would mind losing to Duke again today?

fair-weather armchair coaches
Well written article, i have been under this stuff, albeit far less than Pro college and even HS coaches....well some of the time. some people really get on your nerves. no i am not a professional; I have developed pro athletes but I am not all that.
We all can drink this water; we can all take a step back and think.....about things in general....and what we send!
Good point Yooper worth more than a casual read!!!!

Yoop my cousin went to Michigan so back in the 70s I got to come up and go to the UP. Debbie was crazy about it; we did some clubs...got to see Sonics Rendezvous Band (late former guitarist extraordinaire MC5) in town then went out in the country...this is 78 or so.....was quite an adventure.
nice article you input; thanks for the message!!!

Excellent article. Both this one about the therapy and the Yooper link.
You're either a fan, or you're not.
If your team makes you constantly negative and miserable, even though that's understandable, it might be better to take a step back and find your happy place.

Also, what the canes did to Virginia Tech this weekend, there are ought to be a law against that kind of bullying.

VA Cane, That is cool to hear that you have also ventured to the frozen tundra! I have been guilty too and the message for me was evident to leave the coaching to the pro's and just support our beloved Canes win or lose! I LOVE CANESPACE!!!!

The current run by the hardballers has been impressive. In this last 3 game homestand against vatech, they outscored them 34-6!
But having an expectation for them to sweep their remaining series is somewhat unrealistic. As a rule of thumb in baseball, taking two of three of the series is always good enough. It's also to remember that this is baseball, even the best team slump. The important thing is for them to hopefully get hot during the regionals and into the CWS.
Getting hot at the right time is always crucial, and I'd even give up the ACC title for them to get hot during the CWS, because if they do, anything can happen

Don't follow baseball, but for those that do...seems like UM is having a good season, what do ya'll attribute that to? Did they improve in pitching?...fielding?...hitting?...baserunning?...all of the above?

Soup, you da man! Thank you for allowing the Space to go on. I appreciate all you do for us!! This is truly a special place. Native, what happened to UMike?
Posted by: YooperCane | April 12, 2015 at 10:12 PM
I will answer that.
The "glass half empty" UMike cannot tolerate a single positive thought or day about HIS Miami Hurricanes. He wishes to dwell in the hate and misery that are found among losers.
He refuses to admit his trangressions and prefers to wallow in the muck and mire that is his preferred place in life where the down trodden lay.
We here at Canespace are happy, and hopeful and ready to celebrate the winning again when it begins in the near future.
And until then we will support our team, our great institution known as the University of Miami and their terrific student-athletes as we move forward in a great spirit of joy and cooperation.

Just ask REAL fans who actually go to Canespace events like RaizeCane, NativeCane, Terrance and KYCane. They know what being a REAL fan means:
1. They show up.
2. They stay until the end.
3. Good things happen!

No Sir, that about covers it :) I am hoping that I too may be able to go to a Canespace event. I would like to hang out and chill with other Cane brethren and have some serious fun. Are spouses allowed to these events?
Posted by: YooperCane | April 12, 2015 at 10:40 PM
Spouses are HIGHLY encouarged to attend UM sporting events. However, that may differ when we go to South Beach or choose to camp out Central FL to chase black bears or wrestle alligators while drinking whisky. That usually does not work out too well?

Barry:
### UM, already shaky on the offensive line, is facing the possibility of playing part of next season without likely starting tackle Taylor Gadbois, who might be suspended several games for an undisclosed rules violation, according to a source. Thereβs no final decision, and resolution is not imminent.
Gadbois is coming off a knee injury that sidelined him this spring.
(We have a sense of the violation but am not comfortable reporting it without additional confirmation.)
### Why did Manu Lecomte and DeAndre Burnett leave the UM basketball team?
According to a source briefed on the situation, the school was left with the impression that Lecomte wanted more playing time and Burnett more shots.
One concern conveyed inside the basketball program last season was a suspicion that some of the young players were playing more for themselves than each other.
But UM is still in good shape at guard with Angel Rodriguez, Sheldon McClellan, Davon Reed, JaβQuan Newton and James Palmer.
