Canes Baseball... Miami is 20-2 at home this season. No PTSD among Canes baseball fans.

I came across this article and it really hits home as to what goes on here at Canespace with some, not everyone, DO NOT read if you don't have thick skin.

I think the title of the article says it all. "BE A FAN". I could not say it any better.

GREAT ARTICLE! HERE IS THE FINAL PARAGRAPH:

So as a new collegiate sports season is upon us, I ask all of you to be real sports fans. Support your team! If it is going to be a tough year, let your whole damn community know that you are going to support them through thick and thin and wear your team colors proudly. When some jerk disguised as a fan disses your team, find solace in the fact that you love your team no matter what and that your life is not so wrapped up in the final win-loss record that you must resort to insulting someone who has way more invested in that team than you ever will. Please, leave the coaching to the professionals. Stay classy everyone!

KYcane, Yes Sir indeed! I am from Da UP in Michigan. Go Canes!

KYcane

Yooper, beautiful place.

Spent a week there years ago. Did the Mackinac
City thing with all the fudge stores, cruised Mackinac Island and hiked the trails up at Tahquamenon Falls.

YooperCane

That is way cool that you had the opportunity to be in my neck of the woods. The UP is a great place to live for sure but the winters are harsh, really harsh. We have about 5 Cane fans that live up here that I get to hang out with so its pretty cool to have that in Wolverine country. Next time you get up this way let me know, love to hook up and show you around.

KYcane

Yooper, its a deal

Dude on a Pale Horse

Wolverines fans are great too, they are a little Big 10 delusional but they HATE Ohio. Easy to talk CF with them.

ACC baseball has seen some of the leaders go down this week, with Louisville losing a game to Duke (now 15-2) and FSU now at 11-6. The U is now 13-4, playing well, and needing to keep winning by way of sweeps as opposed to taking 2 of 3, although a series non-sweep win would be forgivable vs. FSU, although annoying! For now, the U has a 4 game lead in the Coastal over UNC. There's another big game today vs. V Tech, with the U currently leading 1-0 in the 2nd. I don't suppose the Cardinals would mind losing to Duke again today?

VA Cane

fair-weather armchair coaches

Well written article, i have been under this stuff, albeit far less than Pro college and even HS coaches....well some of the time. some people really get on your nerves. no i am not a professional; I have developed pro athletes but I am not all that.

We all can drink this water; we can all take a step back and think.....about things in general....and what we send!

Good point Yooper worth more than a casual read!!!!

VA Cane

Yoop my cousin went to Michigan so back in the 70s I got to come up and go to the UP. Debbie was crazy about it; we did some clubs...got to see Sonics Rendezvous Band (late former guitarist extraordinaire MC5) in town then went out in the country...this is 78 or so.....was quite an adventure.

nice article you input; thanks for the message!!!

CaneRock

Consider the source...since 2003, WSU has gone 51-94...that's not "being a fan", that's being a glutton for punishment.

Excellent article. Both this one about the therapy and the Yooper link.

You're either a fan, or you're not.

If your team makes you constantly negative and miserable, even though that's understandable, it might be better to take a step back and find your happy place.

Lurker

Also, what the canes did to Virginia Tech this weekend, there are ought to be a law against that kind of bullying.

YooperCane

VA Cane, That is cool to hear that you have also ventured to the frozen tundra! I have been guilty too and the message for me was evident to leave the coaching to the pro's and just support our beloved Canes win or lose! I LOVE CANESPACE!!!!

Lurker

and needing to keep winning by way of sweeps as opposed to taking 2 of 3, although a series non-sweep win would be forgivable vs. FSU,

Posted by: JCane | April 12, 2015 at 01:35 PM

The current run by the hardballers has been impressive. In this last 3 game homestand against vatech, they outscored them 34-6!

But having an expectation for them to sweep their remaining series is somewhat unrealistic. As a rule of thumb in baseball, taking two of three of the series is always good enough. It's also to remember that this is baseball, even the best team slump. The important thing is for them to hopefully get hot during the regionals and into the CWS.

Getting hot at the right time is always crucial, and I'd even give up the ACC title for them to get hot during the CWS, because if they do, anything can happen

CaneRock

Don't follow baseball, but for those that do...seems like UM is having a good season, what do ya'll attribute that to? Did they improve in pitching?...fielding?...hitting?...baserunning?...all of the above?

Terrance Sullivan

Rock all the above.

YooperCane

Soup, you da man! Thank you for allowing the Space to go on. I appreciate all you do for us!! This is truly a special place. Native, what happened to UMike?

86Cane

I will answer that.

The "glass half empty" UMike cannot tolerate a single positive thought or day about HIS Miami Hurricanes. He wishes to dwell in the hate and misery that are found among losers.

He refuses to admit his trangressions and prefers to wallow in the muck and mire that is his preferred place in life where the down trodden lay.

We here at Canespace are happy, and hopeful and ready to celebrate the winning again when it begins in the near future.

And until then we will support our team, our great institution known as the University of Miami and their terrific student-athletes as we move forward in a great spirit of joy and cooperation.

86Cane

Just ask REAL fans who actually go to Canespace events like RaizeCane, NativeCane, Terrance and KYCane. They know what being a REAL fan means:

1. They show up.
2. They stay until the end.
3. Good things happen!

WHO GOT NEXT???

86Cane

Any other questions???

YooperCane

No Sir, that about covers it :) I am hoping that I too may be able to go to a Canespace event. I would like to hang out and chill with other Cane brethren and have some serious fun. Are spouses allowed to these events?

86Cane

Spouses are HIGHLY encouarged to attend UM sporting events. However, that may differ when we go to South Beach or choose to camp out Central FL to chase black bears or wrestle alligators while drinking whisky. That usually does not work out too well?

86Cane

I miss UMike, he was my favorite Hater! :(

From the last blog, should be a interesting read.

Also I cannot wait to see who the president is Monday right ?

CaneRock

Barry:

### UM, already shaky on the offensive line, is facing the possibility of playing part of next season without likely starting tackle Taylor Gadbois, who might be suspended several games for an undisclosed rules violation, according to a source. There’s no final decision, and resolution is not imminent.

Gadbois is coming off a knee injury that sidelined him this spring.

(We have a sense of the violation but am not comfortable reporting it without additional confirmation.)

### Why did Manu Lecomte and DeAndre Burnett leave the UM basketball team?

According to a source briefed on the situation, the school was left with the impression that Lecomte wanted more playing time and Burnett more shots.

One concern conveyed inside the basketball program last season was a suspicion that some of the young players were playing more for themselves than each other.

But UM is still in good shape at guard with Angel Rodriguez, Sheldon McClellan, Davon Reed, Ja’Quan Newton and James Palmer.

Good hire by the U. Their first priority has to be to fix, then strengthen and grow their relationship with Jackson Hospital.

Such a great article. Good find and thanks for sharing.

Lurker

The hire is right in line with the institution's stated mission to continue becoming a top leading research and academic institution, especially in the medical field.

Certain people on the Internet, less knowledgable about the duties and responsibilities of a University president, will complain about this hire not boding well for the football program.

Nothing will be further from the truth. While academics and research will always be the biggest priority for any top academic institution, any good president will have the prestige of a high performing football program as a strong priority as well, just below academics and research. The football program will be as much of a priority for this president, as it would be for any other candidate they could've been hired.

CaneRock

Putting athletics aside...who can He hire & fire academically? Seems like a turnkey operation to me.

Lurker

I forgot on very important addition to to research and academics: fundraising. Thise are the big three.

CR, it's far from a turnkey operation. Not even close.

Go Canes

UM has some serious philosophical, financial and long-term vision differences with the people from Jackson.

He's got a lot of work to do there just to start.

Demons

Are we allowed to challenge that comment without sounding like we are sniping ? Research ,academics, fundraising, what about athletics.

Lurker

As far as I'm concerned, you can say whatever you want. It's up to the moderators.

But I included athletics in my original comment.

In my opinion, a person must keep in mind the mission of an academic and research institution, which Miami is.

Having said that, around noon, he will also make some comments about athletics, according to Tim Reynolds.

The guy is smart, he was a Dean at Harvard. He realizes the PR power of a successful football program. He hasn't been living in an academic bubble.

Lurker

Go Canes, there has been friction between the Health Trust and UM as far back as I can remember.

I'm not close enough to the situation now to even guess specifically what the current source of conflict is.

I do know that they are two completely different organizations and cultures. To say more than that would probably create more controversy than I think would be appropriate in this forum

UM names Julio Frenk president: What does it mean for Al Golden, Hurricanes athletics?

The University of Miami named Julio Frenk its sixth president Monday. Though any university president has much more than athletics to worry about, the rest of us are free to ponder what Frenk’s impending tenure could mean for UM athletics, specifically the football program, and hyper-specifically, Al Golden.

We don’t know yet, which could very well be OK.

High-ranking UM officials said Frenk, 61, has a patient and open mind and considers athletics to be an integral part of campus life and a UM education. But before making changes to the Hurricanes’ athletic department, he wants to to listen and learn.
