University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame member Coach Ron Fraser will be honored with the Dedication of a "Larger-than-Life" bronze statue in a ceremony outside of Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field at 4 PM on Friday. We hope you can attend to document this honor for The Wizard of College Baseball!
Also, Coach Fraser's second National Championship team, the 1985 Hurricanes, will be honored in a pre-game ceremony before the Canes take on FSU.

Iran?...I like the current administration's approach. That entire region is too phucked up to be sending troops in there. Besides, I don't think we (American people) have the will to enter another conflict.
Posted by: CaneRock | April 21, 2015 at 10:16 AM
CR...any chance we will see you at any home or away games? We got to link up one of these times man
Posted by: UMike | April 21, 2015 at 10:24 AM
The whole Iran deal is a pipe dream.
That being said, I totally agree sending any troops over there would be a colossal mistake.
The reality is Israel will never let Iran get a nuke. They will bomb any suspected development sites to kingdom come before they let that happen.
Posted by: Go Canes | April 21, 2015 at 10:50 AM
Iran used to be the enemy and Saudi Arabia the ally. But things have become really complicated.
Iran-sponsored, shiite islamic terror groups (Hisbollah being the most prominent one, operating from Lebanon and Syria) are in decline. Al-Qaeda, a Sunni group originating from Saudi Arabia (20 of 24 9/11 attackers were Saudis) and especially ISIS (another Sunni group) are way more active and dangerous.
In Yemen, there is a violent struggle between Saudi- and Iran-sponsored groups, all of them radical & criminal with no one in sight you'd want to run the country. So it's really a pick-your-poison situation.
In such a scenario, foreign intervention will not do a lot of good (see: Afghanistan), while doing nothing could result in things spiralling out of control as well (see: Syria).

None of this would be going on if we finished the job and didn't pull all of our troops out of Iraq. Shyt really hit the fan when we did!!
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | April 21, 2015 at 01:57 PM
No one in their right mind wants to send troops in now. That's not even on the table.
Go Canes is probably right about what will happen. If that's the case, though, then it would indicate a total failure of the current policy of appeasement. imo, it's inevitable that they're trying to build a bomb, and if they get close, then they will be bombed, and then it's on. Too bad it might get to that when we could have at least not given up on sanctions with nothing in return, Chamberlain style.

Yep.

Posted by: RCCF | April 21, 2015 at 02:58 PM
RCCF, that is one area of concern for me with Golden. I dont think he has the desire or ability to dominate. He doesnt seem to hate to lose or want to dominate/destroy the opponent. Needs more time with Jimmy lol

He actually wasn't really "there" though was he? Never even participated in a Golden practice.
"players opinions only matter if those opinions match yours"
That was directed right at me.
Your entitled to your opinion, as I am to mine, but at least let's be honest about how things get started.
Posted by: Lurker | April 21, 2015 at 06:37 PM
I don't remember Nelson being a PITA for RS, but yeah, that kid quit on the team before the Sun Bowl, no excuse for that. Even Mike James had to skip His Mom's funeral to play in that game.

That was pretty Petty!!
If U wanna see what K. Nelson said personally its on my facebook...I will go back into hiding since this now nothing more than DeleteSpace.com
Posted by: RCCF | April 21, 2015 at 09:37 PM
I didn't say anything Negative either UMike it's the way of the New Day....Us that have been here for years matter Not..
Posted by: RCCF | April 21, 2015 at 09:40 PM
Really it's not about eating crow, I don't think. Anybody with any sense knows Golden's seat is red hot, he has very little margin for error left. Quite honestly, he's a real underdog right now, and it wouldn't be negative to say that it doesn't look great for him right now.
Having said that, every possible negative thing about Golden has already been said, here, and elsewhere. Things which are not true, made-up agendas, and some very real things as well. What negative thing about Golden hasn't already been said thousands of times over here and all over the Internet?
I'm not telling anybody to say, or not say anything, but I understand and agree with the vision that the best way to go now is to support the program and the players at least, if not the coach, and understand that at the end of the season the record and performance can speak for itself.
At that point I hope that no matter what happened, the discussion is reasonable, if spirited, and respectful, even where there is disagreement, as there's bound to be.
Posted by: Lurker | April 21, 2015 at 09:46 PM
Golden better win.....is this allowed? lol
Posted by: SinisterCane | April 21, 2015 at 09:53 PM
What's good Legion/Canespace? Can't we all get along? Why don't we just relax and let the season play itself out. Here is something we can all agree on. The Canes simply cannot have a season any worst than this past season; if they do, there will be changes. Plain and simple.

Either one works. The October dates the weather will be gotter (not good) and the November dates are the weekend before Thanks giving so hotel rates may be higher. Terrance please check hotels for Novemeber and if rates are comparable lets go then.
My buddy Bill from the Keys may already have 1-2 extra tickets we can buy from him so we can sit together and just ad one more in the same area?

Oh, and BTW, just in case you might have missed it, this article was about The Wizard of College Baseball and a HUGE honor in tribute to him and his accomplishments at UM.
So maybe, just maybe, an appropriate comment or two about UM baseball and the many National Championships and his great impact on college baseball in general would be in order?
But NO, instead you have to dredge up a negative quote from Kevin Friggin Nelson about Golden to support your ruthless hateful agenda? And then you wonder and complain about why you get deleted? Child please!

NICE!
A Nassau County whiz kid was accepted into all eight Ivy League schools — a year after another Long Island teen hit the rare academic jackpot.
Elmont Memorial High School senior Harold Ekeh boasts a grade-point average of 100.5 percent, an SAT score of 2270 and was a semifinalist for the national Intel Science Talent Search.
“My parents’ hard work and my hard work finally paid off,” Ekeh, 17, told The Post.
Ekeh now has his pick of the nation’s elite institutions of higher learning: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth and the University of Pennsylvania — none of which accepts more than 14 percent of applicants.
He’s leaning toward Yale, where Kwasi Enin, 18, the son of Ghanaian immigrants from Mastic Beach, LI, who achieved the Ivy sweep last year, now attends.
Ekeh moved to New York from Nigeria at age 8 and wowed admissions officers with an essay about the challenges he braved while “coming to America,” he said.
“My parents left comfortable lives in Nigeria for their kids to have opportunities. So I take advantage of every single opportunity that has been afforded to me,” said Ekeh, who hopes to become a neurosurgeon.
“It was very difficult to adjust . . . I spoke English but with a very heavy accent. It was like, ‘What is this kid saying?’ ” he continued.
In his free time, he does what most other teens his age don’t do — toiling over biochemistry experiments. His grandma’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis — and his own inspiration to find a cure for the degenerative brain disease — fueled his passion for science, he said.
The hardworking student, a salutatorian who also plays the drums, mentors and volunteers for a social-justice campaign, credited his parents, Paul and Roselin — former clerks at a Target store in Queens — for challenging him to study and do his best, “no matter how hard times got,” he said.
“No matter how many times they would get knocked down, they were always positive,” he said.
“Anybody who sees my story can say, ‘If he can do it, I can do it.’ I’m just a kid who had a real strong support system.”
Ekeh was accepted into the other five schools he applied to: MIT, NYU, Johns Hopkins University, Stony Brook University and Vanderbilt University.
“Never would I have expected to get into all 13 schools. I just wanted to increase my chances of getting into one of them,” he said.
He took his amazing accomplishments in stride.
When he learned he’d been admitted to all of the country’s best schools last Tuesday, he celebrated by going to Bible study — and then to Chipotle.
“I don’t see it as an accomplishment for me. I see it as an accomplishment for my community. I hope it inspires the younger generation, not just in Elmont, but overall,” he said.
