University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame member Coach Ron Fraser will be honored with the Dedication of a "Larger-than-Life" bronze statue in a ceremony outside of Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field at 4 PM on Friday. We hope you can attend to document this honor for The Wizard of College Baseball!
Also, Coach Fraser's second National Championship team, the 1985 Hurricanes, will be honored in a pre-game ceremony before the Canes take on FSU.
Really like this campaign created for the coaches/

I don't know how many people were here or around back in the days of coach Ron Fraser, but Soup is right, this was one unique individual, great coach, and really in my opinion, put Hurricanes beisbol on the map. He deserves the statue and he deserves to be honored. I'm so glad soup has posted this for posterity. I plan to be there for the unveiling. On a lighter note, I can forget about getting any kind of a shake on Friday, just not going to happen. I love the shakes but the lines will be out the out the ying yang.

FB post from a former Cane:
"just looked atb my timeline to see what craziness is going on this morning and across my timeline comes pics Angela posts of her and Brad thru the years, which leads me to me to my Hump Day Morning conversation starting statement....................Here Goes:: If I had to pick RIGHT NOW next week in Chicago between the 2 and i'm talking with the skills they have RIGHT NOW TODAY........ I would take Brad Kaaya over marcus Mariotta 10 times outta 10 and wouldn't lose any sleep at all Pat Carter Darryl Ashmore Clint Hurtt Fee Bartley Johnie Church Clarence McKinney Glenn Cook Earl Little!!!! Mariotta only does one thing better than Brad right now.......RUN!!!! Brad is more NFL ready than Mariotta is after only one season!!!! Go to the tape when I see him I compare him to Winston, Sam Bradford, Matthew Stafford & Andrew Luck when they were in college. When I see mariotta I see Eric Crouch, Tommie Frazier maybe RGIII I don't see a Pro Bowl QB!!! He has a better skill set than Tebow BUT that's it!!! Tebow was a winner a leader a game changer a playmaker in college this kid is just a guy!!! he's a great human being and will make someone a great son in law but that's about all!!! but that's just my opinion. Now Angela make sure Brad makes look good here Ok lolol"

Posted by: Ohio_Cane | April 22, 2015 at 10:01 AM
Soup I will definitely check out both dates. Especially the one in November. I will check out hotel rates in Islamorada right. Or Is there anywhere else I should check. I already have the La Quinta in Plantation on Peters road booked for that weekend anyways. Just can amend some things. Just let me know how many days and what location and Dolphins single game tickets go on sale I think May 13th or 19th. So we can discuss with Bill the situation and we can put it all together. Go Canes. Beat FAU and FSU. RIP to the Wizard, the Greatest.

TSully that sounds good...will they be showing that game in that area? lol
30..will be nice seeing a Cane in the first round again. This should be our best draft showing in years.
Lurker...I dont follow baseball, but from what I understand FRazier built the UM baseball program and this is very deserving.
Posted by: UMike | April 22, 2015 at 10:27 AM
TSully...I'll call Bill today to see what's up with the Fins tix. We can stay one day in FLL for ther UM game and the other days in the FL Keys. We will NOT need a hotel room in the Keys, I got this!
Posted by: SOUP | April 22, 2015 at 10:28 AM
UMIke...U wanna get some 305 double-header action with Canes/Fins this season?
Posted by: SOUP | April 22, 2015 at 10:28 AM
Mike, what Miami has done with the baseball program over the decades is truly amazing. It's almost as big as story as the football program really. Think about this, a small private school with 4 national championships already and played for more than that. Bear in mind that FSU and Florida both have excellent programs are ranked highly every year, but have never, ever won a college World Series. Fraser really started all this.
Posted by: Lurker | April 22, 2015 at 10:34 AM
SOUP..I will see what I can manage...with my work at the shetler now I alternate 82 hour work weeks and 54 hour work weeks. But I will try. THankfully I have places to stay down there..so a quick weekend might be doable.
Posted by: UMike | April 22, 2015 at 10:35 AM
Soup Boom. I have just reserved your room at the La Quinta for 100 dollars for that night of our Canes against GT. Tickets for Dolphins game go on sale May 14th. Talk to U FAM later on. Go Canes.

Posted by: WWIN | April 22, 2015 at 11:01 AM
I could be wrong, but I think the Heat missing the playoffs had less to do with James leaving and more to do with them losing 2 of their top players and perhaps best player for a big portion of the year.

We came out of the 80's and 90's with that swagger and arrogance, we were not mean people , we were down trodden for so long and when we rose up it was sweet smelling air ,we didn't hate regular folk , we had an indirect feeling for those who hated us , the so called writers who hated us didn't like that phoenix rising , we kicked that door in , the 2000's have taken us back to the 70's , we are once more looking for that phoenix, if you believe as an Americane , it will happen again ,hopefully before we are dead and gone , marines have semper fi , we have faith and belief , stay strong , I feel you Umike , be who you are never give up , green and orange forever , was just feeling nostalgic .

The Excuse train is coming early!
Not having Duke Johnson is presenting a great challenge to us" per CaneSport.
Posted by: SinisterCane | April 22, 2015 at 03:37 PM
What makes that an "excuse" vs an answer to a question? Say like "How will you replace Dukes productivity this season?"
Doesn't every coach in America say it's a challenge when they lose a great player?
How is replacing the all-time leading rusher in school history not a challenge?
Posted by: 30CINCO | April 22, 2015 at 03:49 PM
Yearby was a 5* and Walton a 4* so why is it a challenge? Golden has a history of excuses and this just more of the same
Posted by: Sinistercane | April 22, 2015 at 03:58 PM
Yearby was a consensus 4*, same as Walton, but not sure why it matters either way. One is not on campus as of today (I think), the other is a sophomore who was 3rd string the prior year, mostly because he was coming off a major injury, but was still 3rd in the depth chart.
Don't see what the "excuse" is tho, replacing the all time leading rusher in Cane history IS a challenge. What exactly is the issue with saying that? Is it not true?

James/Portis/Mcgahee/Gore
With the exception of Gore I believe these RB's weren't 5* coming out of HS. If staff actucally coach up the current and incoming RB's he only challenge is finding enough carries for all of them
Posted by: Sinistercane | April 22, 2015 at 04:45 PM
Life after Duke Johnson?
Golden: “I think it’s a great challenge for our guys. Gus Edwards had a really good spring. He’s got to continue to show the responsibility and accountability to be that guy. I think Joe Yearby is also a guy that’s competing for that, although he’s markedly different than Gus. Trayone Gray, Mark Walton and Walter Tucker will also be in that battle come the summer. Again, I’m anxious to see how it plays out. I’m happy with the direction that group is going, but obviously, they have a great challenge and hopefully they have something to prove here over the next four months.”
Staff kind of looked at the season moving forward, knowing you don’t have a weapon like Duke. What have you kind of done throughout the spring to make up for that?
Golden: “We really haven’t changed who we are, philosophically. We’re very excited about Gus and Joe and Trayone Gray is very talented. He’s still learning the position but very talented. Mark Walton is certainly a talented young man coming in. So, we’re going to have the guys there. It may not be just one, it may be more of getting several guys the same amount of touches. But again, if one of those guys separates themselves as Duke did, then he’ll get the majority of the touches. But right now, we’re still in that phase of waiting to see one of them break out. If not, we’ll do it by committee. Either way, we’re fine with it. We’re excited about the direction that group is going.”
Posted by: CaneRock | April 22, 2015 at 04:52 PM
If Kaaya has made strides since last season, then we shouldn't need a RB to pick up as much slack for His shortcomings like Duke did last season,.
Posted by: CaneRock | April 22, 2015 at 04:56 PM
I dont see that as an excuse at the moment, more just stating the obvious. If we happen to have a bad season and this is mentioned, then it is an excuse.
Replaceing a player the caliber of Duke will be a challange for any squad, even if you have 4/5 star players coming in.
Posted by: UMike | April 22, 2015 at 05:08 PM
He's definitely not making excuses, not the way I read it. He's answering a question the way all coaches answer questions. I suppose if he had said something like "replacing Duke is easy, we have lots of good running backs, it won't be a problem" then the same peeps would be on him for disrespecting Duke. If you look for negativity under every rock, you'll be sure to find it.
Posted by: Lurker | April 22, 2015 at 05:19 PM
It will be a great challenge replacing Duke though...Duke's the main reason Golden didn't finish with losing records 2012 & 2014.
