Junior David Thompson strengthened his case for ACC Player of the Year Friday night at Mark Light Field, connecting for three home runs and nine RBI in a 22-1 thumping of Georgia Tech.
The three-homer game was the first for a Hurricane since June 2010 (Scott Lawson), while the nine RBI were the most since Chad Rupp had nine in April 1993.
Thompson now leads the nation with 77 RBI and leads the ACC with 18 home runs.
Thompson connected on two-run home runs in the first and fifth innings and added a grand slam in the eighth, bringing his ACC-leading total to a whopping 18 - the most for a Hurricane since Harold Martinez hit 21 in 2010.
"I'm on cloud nine right now," Thompson said after the game. "It was a lot of fun out there. It's fun to come up to bat with guys on base like that, everytime I was up to bat today. I was putting some good swings on the ball."
The grand slam was his third of the season.
"I think I swung at better pitches tonight than yesterday, that's why I was so successful," said Thompson, who went 0-for-3 Thursday. "I was taking strikes that weren't my pitch, and swinging at balls that I could hit well."
Just one night after Thomas Woodrey's complete-game performance guided the Hurricanes to their 10th straight victory, Thompson and the offense stole the show.
Miami outhit the Yellow Jackets 21-4, and the Hurricanes (41-13, 21-8 ACC) captured their ninth home series victory in the last 10 tries.
The victory extended Miami's season-long winning streak to 11 games in front of 2,499 at Mark Light Field.
Miami, who mustered just five hits in a 3-0 series-opening win Thursday, scored four runs in the first and six more in the third, jumping out to an early 11-0 lead and chasing lefthander Ben Parr (5-4) after just one inning.
Not to be overshadowed on Senior Day, lefthander Andrew Suarez (7-1) tossed 6.0 strong innings for the Hurricanes.
"It was a wild one to watch, but it was great," head coach Jim Morris said. "Suarez threw very well, and of course David Thompson was the show tonight with three home runs. We had a lot of guys swing the bat well."
On a much more positive topic, big day today at The U, as a big portion of the class is opting for early May/June enrollment.
Some real nice prospects in this group.
A very welcoming and festive scene at the AC, it's a happy and optimistic day today!

Mark Walton is a prospect I'm really excited to see in action. He looks like he's got some dog in him, I like it. Looks bigger than I expected too. Good link.
I also really like the nice touches for the incoming freshmen.

Lurker...Did I attack Go Canes or Tony? No...we exchange opinions with zero slurs..you like to claim you just have "strong opinions", but yet cry victim if someone else does and claim they attacked you. So it has nothing to do with not liking if someone has a different opinion...its the people that make jerk comments then cry foul.
The only person obessed here is you and your need to reply to every singple post that has UMike on it. "Keyboard warrior" (yet another attack/slur that will go unnoticed)..thats you, lets not even go there because its well documented you arent prepaird to do anything more than run your mouth/keyboard.
This can get me banned, its all good, IM out anyway...but I have zero to say to you unless its face to face, take that however you want. Any respones from you in writing will be for the view pleasure of other bloggers, I Will not be here to read it.
Glad to see more talent arriving today at the U...those young mean have my support as always.
See you spacers in UNC and Tally...I will contact you via e-mail, phone or Facebook...later spacers

Good morning Spacers
Lurker,
Umike was wrong for calling you a punk but your no victim in this as you have referred to others and myself as "Miserable" a few blogs back.
Umike I'm interested in taking my family to the FSU game, hit me up @ starling.gibson@yahoo.com

Man, everyone needs to lighten up.
No one, and I mean no one, has been attacked personally on here more than me. Got to take it all with a grain of salt.
It's just a sports blog for goodness sake.

Agree, Walton is a lot bigger than I thought. I kept reading he has been working out at the school with the current players. Why don't other signees do the same?
Posted by: Da U N Houston | May 17, 2015 at 10:15 AM
And they still won't answer UMike's question. Ya'll see how they tried to change the discourse & narrative to "personal attackers" LMAO!. Damn, it's a simple question...name ONE post-signee that left because of the NCAA?...simple question.

Mike, you do attack, but I don't feel victimized at all. You jumped in, I was just expressing an opinion.
But you do like to throw out phrases like "punk" and the like. We all know what that implies. And then this: "I have zero to say to you unless its face to face, take that however.."
Cmon man! Check that. Over a meaningless Internet difference of opinion. I invite you to re read the timeline and see how you escalated this.
Again, it's about a difference of opinion, not a manhood test. Lighten up. I disagree with something, I'm calling it out. That's what these boards are for, not for bumping noses in virtual reality. That only counts in the real world.
As well as praying for Ohio and his family at noon service, I'll pray for you and yours also.

Walton looks "swolle" like he's been eating right and throwing the iron around often.
I'm not saying the kid will make us forget about Duke, but he's a nice size in contrast to Yearby, who's smaller and elusive.
In a perfect world, I would love to see him redshirt, but it looks like he may get some snaps this year. Maybe even some good ones.
Posted by: Lurker | May 17, 2015 at 11:01 AM
Lurker is allowed to act like a complete jerk in his posts and is never called out..Go Canes manages to go back and forth and not act like a jerk, so its possible.

UMike...what U will never realize is that you need Lurker in your life as much as you need oxygen. Not more, not less, just the same amount.

The ACC Baseball Championship schedule is out. Canes play on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
Other than the NCAA tournament, which uses double-elimination, this is a round robin format with two pools of four teams. The teams with the best record in their pool will play a championship game on Sunday. (There is no semifinal and no best-of-three championship series.)
Wednesday, May 20
#2 Miami vs. #7 Virginia/#10 Georgia Tech, 3 p.m. (Virginia and GT play on Tuesday, Canes go against the winner)
Friday, May 22
#2 Miami vs. #6 NC State, 7 p.m.
Saturday, May 23
#2 Miami vs. #3 Notre Dame, 3 p.m.
Sunday, May 24
ACC Championship, 1 p.m.

Why is it OK if someone writes this in response to someone else's post:
"It's obsessive almost to the point of ridiculousness to parse every quote."
In my view, this is a #Hatespace comment if there ever was one.
Posted by: VfB_Cane | May 17, 2015 at 12:55 PM
VfB...maybe because it is true? If you are going to sit around all day waiting for Golden to say something, no make that anything, and then criticize it and spin it to match your "I hate Golden" agenda then that is just a tad bit slightly twisted, no?

Maybe.

Posted by: 86Cane | May 17, 2015 at 04:44 PM
It's an investment in the facilities where the Miami Hurrucanes play. Everyone KNIWS that it was Ross's $400 million.
It's not reasonable to think that the University of Miami is trying to fool anyone, because everyone knows where that money comes from. Everyone. They're just putting it out there, look what we got, look where we play. I say celebrate that, rather than nitpick a marketing brochure. I'm not trying to stop other people from taking that negative approach, I just want to counterbalance i'm not trying to stop other people from taking that negative approach it
The bottom line is this: the canes will now play all their home games in a top of the line, one of the best in class, world class type facility.
That's reason to celebrate!

Big hands and a small mobile device are a bad combination. Sorry about that mess up there.
Posted by: Lurker | May 17, 2015 at 04:54 PM
Regarding the stadium only, 400 mil invested IS A FLAT OUT LIE per they're marketing
Posted by: SinisterCane | May 17, 2015 at 04:58 PM
So is the Canes playing at Sun Life free since the 2008 season or have they been paying rent and the Dolphins, Sun Life has gotten a cut off of tickets, parking, merchantdise, etc. If I am wrong some one enlighten me.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | May 17, 2015 at 05:15 PM
What are we daying here? I'm confused. That Miami id lying saying that they've invested 600M when 400M is from Ross? Is this the issue, I want to know before I respond.
Posted by: The Dude | May 17, 2015 at 05:17 PM
So OK let's say it's 200 million invested. Are we gonna get any argument over this.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | May 17, 2015 at 05:19 PM
^^^ yeah. I'm like WTF right now.
Posted by: The Dude | May 17, 2015 at 05:19 PM
I swear to all that's holy, after seeing that nutrition table, if I hear one Miami kid complain that they can't order a pizza because of the NCAA rules I'm gonna fly down there and smack the sh*t out of them.
Posted by: The Dude | May 17, 2015 at 05:27 PM
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/fl-dolphins-stadium-0117-20150116-story.html
While the $400 million renovation, being funded by Ross, is expected to help in attracting Super Bowls, college football championships and other big events to the stadium, the main benefit will be to those who regularly come to watch the Dolphins and Miami Hurricanes.
UM's athletic department marketing campaign stated they invested 400 million into Sun Life Staduim
Posted by: SinisterCane | May 17, 2015 at 05:30 PM
Terrance...IIRC, UM pays $2M a year to play in SLS.
Posted by: CaneRock | May 17, 2015 at 05:31 PM
UM didn't say they invested that $400 million themselves. They said it was an "investment in the future". How is that NOT an investment in the facility the team plays in NOW, will play in for the foreseeable future, possibly the only stadium they will play in in our lifetimes.
As I already said, that's put out there with the knowledge that anyone interested would know that it was Ross's investment. When, and if, we ever stop playing at SLS, then they have to when was that clean from there. Not before.
This is exactly what I mean where every little thing is parsed, and then tried to be made into a huge negative for the university.
Also, the U is my school. I will not sit idly by while people call the institution that I love a lying institution. If someone is so naive that they think that was $400 million put up by the school, rather than another individual (Ross) in his facility for which the University of Miami Hurricanes plays all their home football games, then that's their problem. But I will continue to counter comments that slanders the school.

"UM's athletic department marketing campaign stated they invested 400 million into Sun Life Stadium"
This is a lie.

VfB...maybe because it is true?
Posted by: 86Cane | May 17, 2015 at 01:05 PM
That's not the point. While disagrement is essential for a living blog, calling somebody else "obsessive" and "ridiculous" is not. It's a personal attack.
If you think somebody is dead wrong, say so. But avoid comments about somebody as a person, unless it's something good.
Posted by: VfB_Cane | May 17, 2015 at 05:51 PM
I wonder if Golden had been fired and replaced by Butch if any of the objectors to the wording of the renovation-investment campaign would be so interested in deciphering the fine print of the message.
Which brings up the inevitable question whether U hate Golden more than you love the U.
That question answers itself of course.
Posted by: Go Canes | May 17, 2015 at 05:57 PM
I watched the YouTube video and they didn't say they paid for Stadium renovations they say they play there and are tenants which they are. But maybe they should of said it's 207 million investment so then people can't complain.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | May 17, 2015 at 06:00 PM

No Hate but yes my dislike for Golden is substantial but does not exceed my love for UM. At the moment I'm trying to find that UM marketing ad listing all of the thing sthey've individually invested in regarding facilities

Posted by: Lurker | May 17, 2015 at 05:38 PM
I have seen Miami use the 400M to sell its program but I have bever seen them take credit for the investment. That video certainly didn't take credit for the investment.
