By powering #12 Miami to a weekend sweep over Pittsburgh, sophomore slugger Zack Collins was recognized with ACC Player of the Week honors Monday.
Collins led Miami to its fifth sweep of the season, totaling nine RBIs over three games with three home runs. He hit .385 in the Hurricane’s first ever trip to Charles L. Cost Field.
His only hit in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader was an eighth-inning leadoff triple that proved to be the tying run, while he connected on a grand slam and had five RBI in Game 2 – his best output of the season.
A sophomore from Pembroke Pines, Florida, Collins ended the weekend in prolific fashion, recording the third multi-home run performance of his career with two homers and four RBI in a 9-3 win.
Collins has hit four home runs over the past four games, and now ranks second on the team in both homers (nine) and RBI (36). His slugging percentage (.515) is second-highest among all regular starters, while his 22 extra-base hits also rank second-most
The honor was the second-career recognition for Collins, who was named ACC Freshman of the Year and Baseball AmericaNational Freshman of the Year in 2014.
Collins is the third Hurricane to be recognized with weekly honors from the conference this season, joining third baseman David Thompson (twice) and lefthander Andrew Suarez (once).

Lurker,
If Mayweather's style is how to win a fight, then who wants to watch? I guess I shouldn't call it a fight but a boxing match. No wonder MMA has passed it up. They shouldn't award guys points for doing what Mayweather does, it's pretentious as hell.
Posted by: The Dude | May 04, 2015 at 11:32 PM
At the end of the day, Mayweather would've beat SRL,Duran,Hagler & Chavez...the only guy I think that would've gave Mayweather issues, was Hearns, because of His force field like reach.
But hell, SRL beat Hearns the same way Floyd WHOOPED Pacquiao...buy "running" LMAO!

Going back to the previous page, I like UFC over boxing, having grown to appreciate it in the last two years. Here is what has hurt boxing:
1) Too many organizations. How many are there...3? 4? In MMA there is UFC and to a much smaller extent Bellator. But UFC is synonymous with MMA.
2) Too little free expisure, and too much PPV.
3) Questionable decisions.
4) No American heavyweight champion.

It certainly shows how bad we were last year lol...it does help if we actually win...otherwise we would have to climb over a lot of teams if not ranked high in preseason

Hopefully we can win the next seven of eight and do well (championship game) in the ACC tournament. I would really like to host a super regional!!!!
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | May 05, 2015 at 12:12 PM
I think I prefer to actually see the games before determining where we're going to end up in the ACC.
Remember last season both Va Tech and UNC were ranked early in the season. That certainly didn't work out too well for either of them.
Posted by: Go Canes | May 05, 2015 at 12:21 PM
Also GT was picked 11th. Coach on hot seat sound familiar? IJS.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | May 05, 2015 at 12:23 PM
Go Canes..I agree no rankings should come out to after maybe 3-4 games...my point is that being ranked in the preseason helps when you have a winning season. It keeps you higher in the rankings, you dont have to jump people and leads to better bowls etc. So while we still have preseason rankings they still have some significances.
Posted by: UMike | May 05, 2015 at 12:23 PM
When you go 6-7 and lose to some of the teams we did, then go and lose your best player and best defensive player, you cant blame people for ranking you that low. Its up to Miami to earn that respect with wins and prove them wrong.
Posted by: UMike | May 05, 2015 at 12:25 PM
Last year Auburn, UCLA, S. Carolina, Oklahoma, and Stanford were pre-season top 10.
Rankings at this point mean nothing.
Posted by: Go Canes | May 05, 2015 at 12:54 PM
Go Canes..I understand that, and the bad ones fall quickly. But if you are not ranked in the pre-season and go 10-1 and there are 4 other teams ranked 10-1, guess who gets left out lol...thats all Im saying. It helps to be ranked to start the year, it doesnt "mean" anything until games are played, but once games are played and if you win enough, at the end of the year you will wish you were ranked in the pre-season poll.
Posted by: UMike | May 05, 2015 at 12:57 PM
Although I do believe if the Canes were ACC pre-season favorites it would be broadcasted here with great fan fair and the "haters" would be saying it doesnt matter...just the way the Space works lol
Posted by: UMike | May 05, 2015 at 01:05 PM
Again, the point being that these preseason rankings are completely irrelevant. An ESPN wildassed guess not only will have no impact on our future record, it won't even have an impact on the ACTUAL ranking services.
That's simply my opinion of a posted link.
Apparently, stating that causes ruffled feathers. Too bad. No one was harmed or insulted. If people want to get sensitive when someone states an opinion, that's on them, not me.
Posted by: Lurker | May 05, 2015 at 01:05 PM
IF Kayaa makes the leap in year two that I hope he does, it negates the loss of Duke Johnson. Miami will be better and deeper this season, with talent almost evenly distributed across all four signing classes. That has not existed since 2010.
Posted by: TonyCane | May 05, 2015 at 01:13 PM
I'd actually be saying we shouldn't be based on what we lost.
We can do it, but beginning ahead of FSU and Clemson would make no sense.

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | May 05, 2015 at 01:52 PM
I like not being ranked it builds character.....and besides after last years fiasco, we dont deserve to be ranked...we need to earn it.
I do not dislike AlPa not at all. I do feel he is much more suited to where he came from...Temple, MAC conference, Harvard, Yale, William and Mary, University of Richmond....any Div 2 or 3.
his attack and whole attitude towards the game fit in much better at those levels....and there is nothing wrong with that. I think it would be easier for him as he could go 9-3 8-4 win enough to make folks happy, reach bowl games or playoffs and have a long career. We have reached the goal the current regime really desired; Harvard of The South.
We have great academics and average football. Some, alot of people are ok with that, and its mot a sin. I want to compete and win every year but thats me. AlPa may never leave if a new administrator comes in and is pleased with academics; being ok in sports may be ok to them....and its not really an accountability job you do not have to win. Just play good and get to some bowl may work.
Not my cup of tea, but I cannot or will not comment for others who may be very pleased to be that way.
Posted by: VA Cane | May 05, 2015 at 02:13 PM
I can see that the low ranking might only have an effect in motivating some players.
But honestly, I don't think it would have that impact. If having a poor prior season, and just grinding to be your best, isn't enough to get you motivated, I don't know what would.

I think it will all depend on the administration. Again 8 and 4 may suffice especially if one of the wins is FSU, and you can get to a Sun, Gator or Peach Bowl. This may work, though there is a cross section of the fanbase that wants to be elite. There is not a huge following....seems a lot like LA....not rabid, hungry. I am very set on winning....just how I feel and coach.Time will tell will just have to see.
Posted by: VA Cane | May 05, 2015 at 03:19 PM
Anyone that thinks that the BOT, the big donors, and the administration are ok with what's happened the last 10 years is not correct. The new president wouldn't be ok with it either.
I'll give just 2 reasons, but there are several more.
First of all, all the people I mentioned in the first paragraph are successful people. Successful people are winners. They know what it is to compete, and to win. That's why they are where they are. They competed in business and won, and/or they competed in academics and won, they want to be the best. That's the difference between living in the outhouse and the big house. Successful people are always competing, and they're mostly winning. For competitive reasons, bragging rights, the prestige, and everything else, trust me these people want to win.
Secondly, winning at football at the highest levels has done nothing but bring megamoney into the university, and everyone that's involved with Miami either in the past or now knows that. I guarantee you they are well aware of all the money they have NOT made because of the last 10 years. It also helps academically in bringing in the best possible students you can. Let me not make sense to some people, but it does attract recruits. The academic kind, not just the athletic ones. Obviously not every student Miami went there because of the football program but it does help. And the loss in merchandising sales, ticket sales and a several other financial opportunities has been substantial.
Bottom line, the powers that be are looking for much better performance. This is definitely a crucial year for Golden, and I don't think it's unreasonable to say that if he doesn't win the coastal, or at least win nine or 10 games, he will lose his job. In fact, I think that might be a very likely scenario

We'll see what kind of coach Golden is this year, especially without Duke, Clive and Dorsett. We'll see what kind of motivator and innovator he is.
Posted by: herbieibis | May 05, 2015 at 03:41 PM
"At least win 9 or 10 games"...and that right there has been the problem under Golden's tenure..."at least".
Successful people shouldn't settle for "at least", successful people should settle for nothing less than EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS.
