By powering #12 Miami to a weekend sweep over Pittsburgh, sophomore slugger Zack Collins was recognized with ACC Player of the Week honors Monday.
Collins led Miami to its fifth sweep of the season, totaling nine RBIs over three games with three home runs. He hit .385 in the Hurricane’s first ever trip to Charles L. Cost Field.
His only hit in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader was an eighth-inning leadoff triple that proved to be the tying run, while he connected on a grand slam and had five RBI in Game 2 – his best output of the season.
A sophomore from Pembroke Pines, Florida, Collins ended the weekend in prolific fashion, recording the third multi-home run performance of his career with two homers and four RBI in a 9-3 win.
Collins has hit four home runs over the past four games, and now ranks second on the team in both homers (nine) and RBI (36). His slugging percentage (.515) is second-highest among all regular starters, while his 22 extra-base hits also rank second-most
The honor was the second-career recognition for Collins, who was named ACC Freshman of the Year and Baseball AmericaNational Freshman of the Year in 2014.
Collins is the third Hurricane to be recognized with weekly honors from the conference this season, joining third baseman David Thompson (twice) and lefthander Andrew Suarez (once).

I do like Golden as a recruiter. The only problem I have with him is he's too stubborn. If something isn't working, he's going to keep on trying till it does!! That's why you haven't seen improvement in this team!

thirsty...that has ALWAYS be my biggest issue with him. I was encouraged when he went and sought help from Dallas ans Pete Carroll and when you hear from players and coaches of changes on the D side. Hopefully things have actually changed.

Honestly nobody is alright....unless you enjoy being average. I don't like anybodys outlook as their actions and outlooks...including players.... is why we are....average at best. Anybody can be average I want to be excellent exceptional.....it takes leaders not people happy to be getting paid.....we have been sleepwalking dreaming for 12 years....time to wake up and get moving back to the top.

If we win 9 games Golden will be back.....going 8-4 will be a toss up with the administration.....7 wins or less, he'll get his pink slip.

He is right about stadium....we are in for a lot....no real options. I'm fine with that.
Does anybody remember who Leggett is or what he says? 5★? He was the worst receiver we ever recruited....sucked was a pu**y. ..no block no catch in traffic.
AlPa would be great as recruiting coordinator while having a different coach....a great record ie winning solves the recruiting. ...a lab chimp could have recruited for us at one time.

Let's hope things are going to be changing on the defense side of the ball. You'll have one unhappy fan if there's not.

I believe Leggett was a 5 star guy.

Damn near that entire 2004 class was a bust:
3. Miami 2004
Coach: Larry Coker
Class rank: 4th
Five-star signees: 3 (WR Lance Leggett, G Tyler McMeans, LB Willie Williams)
Buzz: The class forever will be remembered for five-star LB Willie Williams. He arrived in Coral Gables after a well-documented recruitment and with an extensive arrest record, and he did not last long on campus. Five-star WR Lance Leggett had a huge senior year in the Texas private-school ranks but never became a dominant college player. Tyler McMeans was a five-star junior college offensive lineman signee who wasn't the road grader he was expected to be. Four-star QB Kirby Freeman eventually transferred back to his home state to play for Baylor. Other four-star prospects who didn't pan out included DE Rhyan Anderson, LB James Bryant and RBs Andrew Johnson, Charlie Jones and Bobby Washington.

Man, that class really did suck!!!!

Those 5 star guys set us back a bit , but we put all our beliefs in the guys from northwestern and that class , kyle wright and freeman couldn't handle the pressure and Jacory thought he could , after the Seminoles game most everyone anointed him including me , those guys got so damn cocky it was ridiculous I thought AJ Johnson was going to be the shit , including a few from booker T , cant blame them all for bad games , most of that staff, Nix and company really did a bad job , and Shannon just could not adjust within the game he was over his head , kinda like where we are as of last year , so going to be diplomatic and go with what we have , and if things sour again , fire and brimstones , tar and feather's, right out of town

The 2008 class wasn't that bad...the core of those teams that won 16 games in 2008 & 2009, were freshmen & sophomores. The problem though, was we never reinforced that class with equal or better classes...which led to complacency & apathy.
Posted by: CaneRock | May 08, 2015 at 02:13 PM
Leggett was so bad....pathetic player never did a thing at UM....and J12, who may hold and surpassed some records, was best termed serviceable at best.
Dark past.....I do not want to relive them....are we better? Look at the record no real change. Lets hope for a better year.

In any event, we have the most talented team in the ACCC...AGAIN! The wins this year BETTER reflect that talent.

2009 & 2010 recruiting classes were not good classes at all, and imo, set the program back significantly.
Look back at 2009 and look at the hits and misses. Maybe 5-6 hits and the rest were an unmitigated disaster. The next class was DOA.
