By powering #12 Miami to a weekend sweep over Pittsburgh, sophomore slugger Zack Collins was recognized with ACC Player of the Week honors Monday.
Collins led Miami to its fifth sweep of the season, totaling nine RBIs over three games with three home runs. He hit .385 in the Hurricane’s first ever trip to Charles L. Cost Field.
His only hit in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader was an eighth-inning leadoff triple that proved to be the tying run, while he connected on a grand slam and had five RBI in Game 2 – his best output of the season.
A sophomore from Pembroke Pines, Florida, Collins ended the weekend in prolific fashion, recording the third multi-home run performance of his career with two homers and four RBI in a 9-3 win.
Collins has hit four home runs over the past four games, and now ranks second on the team in both homers (nine) and RBI (36). His slugging percentage (.515) is second-highest among all regular starters, while his 22 extra-base hits also rank second-most
The honor was the second-career recognition for Collins, who was named ACC Freshman of the Year and Baseball AmericaNational Freshman of the Year in 2014.
Collins is the third Hurricane to be recognized with weekly honors from the conference this season, joining third baseman David Thompson (twice) and lefthander Andrew Suarez (once).

I'll even put a face to go along with my T-shirt. Can't believe I thought it was the players a few years ago.
I can be wrong. I was wrong. And I will probably be wrong again. []_[]

UMike...thanks for posting that article about the UM campus. It has changed dramatically since 1992, and for the better! I knew and worked with the landscape architect (Alan Weber) who they hired to oversee the campus beautification process. He won awards for his work at UM and at Baptist Hospital in Kendall.

I think Burns has the best shot right now, but Bush, Elder, Coley, Grace, McCord and AQM all have a chance.
Posted by: The Dude | May 07, 2015 at 12:51 PM
Burns and AQM I think have the best chance.

@CoachKonkol: From 2009-14, the ACC leads all conferences with 32 first-round @NBA drafts picks. The next highest has 22. #TheU @accmbb

Even though he didn't play a ton, this guy's a winner in my book. Kids should look up to this:
"Former Miami basketball player Raphael Akpejiori will be graduating this weekend as well. Akpejiori will be leaving the University of Miami with a dual degree, earning a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's of Science in Mechanical Engineering."
This is what you call winning in life

@CanesWarningFS: NEW: @samjacobsss takes a look at some of the #Canes that could hear their names called in next year's NFL draft http://t.co/Syqfc94UVp
Posted by: Go Canes | May 07, 2015 at 02:16 PM
Akpejiori will probably make more money with that degree in Nigeria, than America.
Posted by: CaneRock | May 07, 2015 at 02:23 PM
Could you imagine working with Raphael? You're all a normal engineer, you have your coffee and bag lunch, and then there's the huge Nigerian in the office next door, lol.
Posted by: The Dude | May 07, 2015 at 02:35 PM
He'll make good money wherever he goes. The fact that he got his Masters means that after a few years of getting experience in his field, he'll be on a managerial track. All assuming he doesn't have a long career in the NFL

This girl put a lickin on this boy! You think that kid got made fun of...LOL

AfriCane, not saying that people don't get jobs off of merit, but that "who you know" is everywhere.

so I had a brighthouse tech come to the house last night to replace my cable modem and the first thing he says to me when he walks in is "I can't believe we went 6 - 7" with 7 players going in the draft. :-)
Posted by: raizecane | May 07, 2015 at 05:55 PM
^^^ no one can. It's completely unacceptable and the school and staff did zero to remedy the situation. 2015 is going to be a tough year I think.

Is this thing on?
Posted by: The Dude | May 08, 2015 at 01:45 AM
Lurker,
That's a great point. That's why I say "Champions in Life, Family, School, Football in that order"....the school is so important to the other 3 it is a solid foundation that never guarantees but certainly enhances success. That is what I have been doing going on 37 years this fall that's why I know I am a great coach...my kids buy into the saying and they have suceeded...that's what makes me proud.

9th lowest enrollment of the 5 power conference schools.
Wow.
We're there with the Wake Forests of the world in that department, and that doesn't even consider the inordinate amount of international students comprising that small number.

I like the fact that Adidas is making UM their priority...waiting to loose a few more pounds before I buy new gear. And honestly I dont care if its dam Russel Athletic, if it has the U on it Im all for it...especially if it brings the school more money lol

Sounds like a lil' rift there between BJ & DS.

Personally, I like playing at Joe Robbie. It's no Orange Bowl but it's the next best thing! With the improvements they are doing, the place will be amazing!!!
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | May 08, 2015 at 09:54 AM
thirsty, I agree. Now Ive only ever been to the Orange Bowl, Sun Life and Bobby Dodd (GT) so I dont have much to compare it to, but I am happy at Sun Life when I go...and especially with the improvements coming.

If they decided to build a stadium just for Miami, decorated with UM stuff etc etc Id be all for it,, but Im fine where we are now.

I think JR is way too big for us its a echo chambrr and often very empty....we do not have a huge following. It is nice place just too large.
I do not care for Blow James as AD. While I do not think AlPa is the guy who will ressurect the program, and I do not care for his football philosophy, I like him. I do not care for James, just don't.
Posted by: VA Cane | May 08, 2015 at 10:29 AM
While I do not like hearing RS say this.....and UF fans are not happy with their demise....they do have a big following who come to games, and they are big.
We had a huge brand, but Clappy RS AlPa, their staffs,The BOT, ADs, administrations, and Pres.....and a lot of guys playing bad football who were not as good as they thought they were ...are the reason for our decline. Its been like the expulsion from The Garden.....very bad.
Posted by: VA Cane | May 08, 2015 at 10:51 AM
Blake James is alright, I'm glad He's taken this stance in respect to SLS. Donna just needs to go as far as football is concerned...just go.
Posted by: CaneRock | May 08, 2015 at 10:56 AM
When 5-Star WR Lance Legget said "they have scholarship players too" you knew we were in trouble because we had begone to recruit a different type of player. While Golden seems to have up and downs years with this, he has done a better job than most with getting South Florida kids. These kids have a different mentality and will never say some shyt like that
