2009 & 2010 recruiting classes were not good classes at all, and imo, set the program back significantly.

Look back at 2009 and look at the hits and misses. Maybe 5-6 hits and the rest were an unmitigated disaster. The next class was DOA.

In any event, we have the most talented team in the ACCC...AGAIN! The wins this year BETTER reflect that talent.

The Dude

Then you missed the one about MLK punches Al Sharpton in the face, that was spit out your coffee funny.

VA Cane

Leggett was so bad....pathetic player never did a thing at UM....and J12, who may hold and surpassed some records, was best termed serviceable at best.
Dark past.....I do not want to relive them....are we better? Look at the record no real change. Lets hope for a better year.

CaneRock

The 2008 class wasn't that bad...the core of those teams that won 16 games in 2008 & 2009, were freshmen & sophomores. The problem though, was we never reinforced that class with equal or better classes...which led to complacency & apathy.

Demons

Those 5 star guys set us back a bit , but we put all our beliefs in the guys from northwestern and that class , kyle wright and freeman couldn't handle the pressure and Jacory thought he could , after the Seminoles game most everyone anointed him including me , those guys got so damn cocky it was ridiculous I thought AJ Johnson was going to be the shit , including a few from booker T , cant blame them all for bad games , most of that staff, Nix and company really did a bad job , and Shannon just could not adjust within the game he was over his head , kinda like where we are as of last year , so going to be diplomatic and go with what we have , and if things sour again , fire and brimstones , tar and feather's, right out of town

Man, that class really did suck!!!!

CaneRock

Damn near that entire 2004 class was a bust:

3. Miami 2004
Coach: Larry Coker
Class rank: 4th
Five-star signees: 3 (WR Lance Leggett, G Tyler McMeans, LB Willie Williams)
Buzz: The class forever will be remembered for five-star LB Willie Williams. He arrived in Coral Gables after a well-documented recruitment and with an extensive arrest record, and he did not last long on campus. Five-star WR Lance Leggett had a huge senior year in the Texas private-school ranks but never became a dominant college player. Tyler McMeans was a five-star junior college offensive lineman signee who wasn't the road grader he was expected to be. Four-star QB Kirby Freeman eventually transferred back to his home state to play for Baylor. Other four-star prospects who didn't pan out included DE Rhyan Anderson, LB James Bryant and RBs Andrew Johnson, Charlie Jones and Bobby Washington.

-----------------------------------------

Let's hope things are going to be changing on the defense side of the ball. You'll have one unhappy fan if there's not.

VA Cane

He is right about stadium....we are in for a lot....no real options. I'm fine with that.
Does anybody remember who Leggett is or what he says? 5★? He was the worst receiver we ever recruited....sucked was a pu**y. ..no block no catch in traffic.
AlPa would be great as recruiting coordinator while having a different coach....a great record ie winning solves the recruiting. ...a lab chimp could have recruited for us at one time.

thirstybuzzardcane

If we win 9 games Golden will be back.....going 8-4 will be a toss up with the administration.....7 wins or less, he'll get his pink slip.

VA Cane

Honestly nobody is alright....unless you enjoy being average. I don't like anybodys outlook as their actions and outlooks...including players.... is why we are....average at best. Anybody can be average I want to be excellent exceptional.....it takes leaders not people happy to be getting paid.....we have been sleepwalking dreaming for 12 years....time to wake up and get moving back to the top.
Jmo

UMike

thirsty...that has ALWAYS be my biggest issue with him. I was encouraged when he went and sought help from Dallas ans Pete Carroll and when you hear from players and coaches of changes on the D side. Hopefully things have actually changed.

thirstybuzzardcane

I do like Golden as a recruiter. The only problem I have with him is he's too stubborn. If something isn't working, he's going to keep on trying till it does!! That's why you haven't seen improvement in this team!

UMike

James needed to say what he said...we are still locked into a long lease with Sun Life...they are making huge improvements that will greatly benefit UM...you cant exactly bad mouth them lol

UMike

When 5-Star WR Lance Legget said "they have scholarship players too" you knew we were in trouble because we had begone to recruit a different type of player. While Golden seems to have up and downs years with this, he has done a better job than most with getting South Florida kids. These kids have a different mentality and will never say some shyt like that

CaneRock

Blake James is alright, I'm glad He's taken this stance in respect to SLS. Donna just needs to go as far as football is concerned...just go.

VA Cane

While I do not like hearing RS say this.....and UF fans are not happy with their demise....they do have a big following who come to games, and they are big.
We had a huge brand, but Clappy RS AlPa, their staffs,The BOT, ADs, administrations, and Pres.....and a lot of guys playing bad football who were not as good as they thought they were ...are the reason for our decline. Its been like the expulsion from The Garden.....very bad.

VA Cane

I think JR is way too big for us its a echo chambrr and often very empty....we do not have a huge following. It is nice place just too large.
I do not care for Blow James as AD. While I do not think AlPa is the guy who will ressurect the program, and I do not care for his football philosophy, I like him. I do not care for James, just don't.

UMike

Ohio..I read that earlier and was gonna share...but then SOUP might go all bi polar on me and write a blog about how negative I am hahahahaha

If they decided to build a stadium just for Miami, decorated with UM stuff etc etc Id be all for it,, but Im fine where we are now.

UMike

thirsty, I agree. Now Ive only ever been to the Orange Bowl, Sun Life and Bobby Dodd (GT) so I dont have much to compare it to, but I am happy at Sun Life when I go...and especially with the improvements coming.

thirstybuzzardcane

Personally, I like playing at Joe Robbie. It's no Orange Bowl but it's the next best thing! With the improvements they are doing, the place will be amazing!!!

Lurker,
That's a great point. That's why I say "Champions in Life, Family, School, Football in that order"....the school is so important to the other 3 it is a solid foundation that never guarantees but certainly enhances success. That is what I have been doing going on 37 years this fall that's why I know I am a great coach...my kids buy into the saying and they have suceeded...that's what makes me proud.

The Dude

Is this thing on?

He'll make good money wherever he goes. The fact that he got his Masters means that after a few years of getting experience in his field, he'll be on a managerial track. All assuming he doesn't have a long career in the NFL

"Former Miami basketball player Raphael Akpejiori will be graduating this weekend as well. Akpejiori will be leaving the University of Miami with a dual degree, earning a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's of Science in Mechanical Engineering."

Don't recall it being posted, but Armbrister signed with the Jags.

In the 1970s, the University of Miami battled a reputation as Suntan U. But all that sun once shone on a rather, well, drab campus of concrete.

Until Roberta “Bosey” Foote came along.

As the Coral Gables campus emerged and climbed the national rankings for its educational achievements and rose above the Playboy-touted party reputation, its grounds also bloomed under Foote’s direction.

Many would say the two go hand-in-hand.

“She did believe that making places beautiful raised the game,” said her daughter Julia Foote LeStage. “If your surroundings were gorgeous and you respected them, you respected yourself in that space.

“She was a woman of her age often defined by ‘wife of...’ and ‘daughter of...’ but she was a full person. She was Bosey Foote. She was this silent force and had a vision that the UM should be a tropical garden and that was her legacy. If you are competing against Princeton you better look like Shangri-las,” LeStage said.

Foote died of complications from cancer Tuesday at 76. Her work on the UM campus is in every plant, leaf and bit of natural beauty that she helped put there.

Foote first came to the University of Miami in 1981 with her husband, Edward Tad Foote, who was previously dean of the law school at Washington University in St. Louis. Tad Foote served as UM president for 22 years.

Bosey Foote’s attention to the physical beauty of the Coral Gables campus became her mission through an extensive beautification program she helped orchestrate. She opened a series of palmetums featuring palms and cycads from several countries and was an ardent supporter of the university’s John C. Gifford Arboretum, a collection of rare plants and trees maintained for educational and research purposes and to inspire an appreciation for tropical plants.

“Bosey’s contribution to the university has been tremendous,” her husband once said. “The most obvious example is the campus environment, but no one will ever truly know how important she has been to the University of Miami, except me. We’ve done this together.”

Golden keeps his job at 8-4, 7-5 he's done. If we have some bad losses, where we get gutted and it's the same old dog and pony show he's done. Clemson and FSU are in reloading mode, something we use to be able to relate too! Va. Tech defense will be tough and UNC will be good offensively. Duke has a new QB and NEB. lost most of their key players, so what does this mean, with us toss ups. Coaching will make or break us against these teams.
