"At least win 9 or 10 games"...and that right there has been the problem under Golden's tenure..."at least".

Successful people shouldn't settle for "at least", successful people should settle for nothing less than EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS.

Posted by: CaneRock | May 05, 2015 at 04:02 PM

That's the expectation. He doesn't need to go 12-0, or win an NC. We're dealing in the real world here. Those kinds of expectations come only after you've had some success. This year is about confirming one of two things, either we need to go in a different direction, or we're headed in the right direction. The only way we!re headed in the right direction is at least 9-10 wins and a bowl game win. Anything less, no bueno

TonyCane

Cane rock, Dorsey's improvement from Year 3 to Year 4 was not what you should compare Kayaa against. It's the improvement from Year 1 to 2. That was where Dorsey made the big leap. That is where Kayaa hopefully makes the leap.

SOUP

Its up to Miami to earn that respect with wins and prove them wrong.

We'll see what kind of coach Golden is this year, especially without Duke, Clive and Dorsett. We'll see what kind of motivator and innovator he is.

Posted by: herbieibis | May 05, 2015 at 03:41 PM

There IT is right there.

Lurker

Realistic.

7 wins and Soup has to shut this blog down.

8 and nobody will be happy.

But either of those happen and we're talking about our new coach, anyway.

This past season gave the current staff very little margin for error.

The difference between me and some other people here is I'm letting the season play out. I'm not outright saying that Golden will fail . I don't know what will happen. If Kaaya can stay on his feet and has that big 1st to second year improvement we're all expecting, then anything is possible.

Anything IS possible, including a much better season. My attitude is why not focus on that possibility since the season hasn't even started yet. I choose not to be miserable

I hear ya'...but what I'm saying is, even with strides, Kaaya still literally needs a good to great running game to ease the pressure.

TonyCane

Hopefully the Hurricane Matrix of Swagger will be opened this season.

VfB_Cane

If you want another season to see if he surprises you, that's your prerogative, but some of us have seen enough to have made up our minds.

Posted by: The Dude | May 06, 2015 at 03:25 AM

Yep.
But it's the first season the new president will get to see from up close and gather the information he needs to decide.
If he likes what he sees, last season will not count for as much as we think.
On the other hand, as somebody pointed out, he is likely to make changes if next season doesn't show progress.

Demons

Letting the season play out is all well and good , but the reality of what happened last year is still fresh ,until new season starts up, we can still talk about what our deficiencies were ,so I guess we can stay off the blog until then and not say anything ?,if they are still asking Golden about last season on the radio , why cant we analyze him here also , check out his reactions on the herald today .

Lurker

If you want another season to see if he surprises you, that's your prerogative,

Posted by: The Dude | May 06, 2015 at 03:25 AM

What I WANT or you want is completely irrelevant. He's getting another season, no matter what. We're getting another season. Period.

This is a perfect example of getting it twisted and presuming words/thoughts unto others.

I'm dealing with the actual reality of another season with Golden. My attitude is the one thing I can control. It's an actual choice: approach with optimism and hope, mixed in with reality (don't expect 12–0 or an NC), or at the other extreme, get mired in constant negativity. That's what I'm choosing from.

Terrance Sullivan

Go Canes beat Bethune Cookman tonight at the Light. That is all.

Demons

We all know how GO CANES feel , he makes his post and we know where he is coming from and respect him for his stand, but his are not tinged with sarcasm.

UMike

OK fellas...lets tone it down some, please. We all know were we all stand, no reason we cant talk about all our opinions without the need to attack, even in a slight way.

I do agree with Lurker that we all have to accept Golden has this year, nothing can change that. He is here. However, we are allowed to talk about defencisies we feel we have or issues that need to be changed from last year.

Im sure we ALL HOPE to see improvement... this staff has to earn it. As pissed off as we (or some of us) are, no need to go back and forth in any way but respectfully...on ALL sides.

Umike I don't recall any blogger not accepting the fact that Golden was given another year, All I did was post a ESPN link regarding ACC Preseason ranking.

Lurker

Appreciate your post Mike.

I'm not interested in the back and forth, I have no problem with disagreeing on opinions, but I don't stand by when someone comes at me. Turning the other cheek is not my deal. But I appreciate your comment.

UMike

Im not asking anyone to turn the other cheek, simply saying to watch how WE say things...we could all do without the sarcasm and little digs...I am saying that for ALL of us.

Sinister...not saying you dont accept that...just pointing it out for us.

On a better note...4 of my basketball girls from elemantary school recieved academic acheievment awards at middle school today including my daughter...was very happy.

Lurker

My posting style is what it is. I'm not changing it. I don't attack other posters. In fact, it's the other way around. So, no, I'm not changing how or what I post. Again, suffice it to say I don't engage in personal attacks, like many have on here did until soup put an end to it. Take it or leave, and that's all I'm saying on that

Canezitis

I get what what ya'll are saying, but to Lurker's point there is NOTHING we can do about our current staff in place. We all know they failed and we're all pissed and would love a top tier coaching staff, but that ain't happening this season. It is what is, why be in the dumps about it. Like some have said, it should be a win win scenario: this staff has another bad year, they're out. If they have a good year and keep the current 2016 class, they might seem like the second coming of Butch and Co. If you recall, we were not real pleased with butch for the first few years as well.
So choose to be miserable about something you can't control or let the season play out and maybe be cautiously optimistic. I'm choosing latter. Life's too short to get all worked up about this stuff, especially when not one game has been played yet.

TheeMackJones

IF Kayaa makes the leap in year two that I hope he does, it negates the loss of Duke Johnson. Miami will be better and deeper this season, with talent almost evenly distributed across all four signing classes. That has not existed since 2010.

Posted by: TonyCane | May 05, 2015 at 01:13 PM

I dig your positive vibes and what not. Yet talent MEANS NOTHING if the personnel are not employed wisely in SCHEMES, STRATEGEMS and what not. And if the game plan and halftime adjustments are AVERAGE and what not.

And baby. That's what OPEN-MINDED Hurricane fandom have WITNESSED the entire four seasons Golden and D'Onofrio have been in Coral Gables.

My bad for bringing negative waves and what not. But I just have to check your notions with a different perspective based on FACTS!

Again, Miami had an EXCELLENT NFL draft weekend and the VAST MAJORITY of NFL draft pundits literally WONDERED how the Hurricanes finished " 6-7 " last season. Well, I absolutely believe it had a lot to do with Golden and D'Onofrio!!!!!!

Ah. The Voice of Reason whom brings a dose of Orange and Green REALITY to the forum.

WWIN

Like Lurker said... ANYTHING can happen. So that includes the chance of UM firing Golden before the season starts right? So if people want to believe in that and it can happen, why accept the staff will be here this upcoming season?

If ANYTHING can happen why not expect 12-0 instead of 9 wins???

Go Canes

10-2.

No caps needed.

VA Cane

I do think current regime wants to do "good", and with all things considered 9-3, 8-4, with a Gator, Peach, or Sun Bowl and a 10-2 thrown in with a big bowl would meet expectations and keep AlPa here for a long time. Beamer, whom I know well, has done it for years. The 1 trip to title game vs FSU was because all things fell right and he had Mike Vick. They have never been a regular at the title table and do not really expect to be...they hope to be but are happy to have good season....hence the turmoil after 2014.
I really don't know that undefeated and NC are in the expectations of new leader and BOT.....Good is the key buzzword makes people feel warm fuzzy....and for many that is good.

I like being in that title game I like championships...I love seeing my boys move to hs ball, feeding into our area hs, heavily contributing to and winning 3 states in a row, going to VT, Stanford, Wake, Richmond, William and Mary, NC....playing and learning. It tells me I am teaching coaching developing guys as complete people, students and olayers. I love 94-3 6 of last 8 SBs.....got to be 7 of last 9....I love winning it all more than being good. That's just me....lets get to good and see if we can go beyond...we will see what happens.

VA Cane

That undefeated NC concept is not part of our culture now, its the past for now 12 years ago but I want to see where we are and are we moving towards it....this year will be a flower of light in a field of darkness as to where we are....and perhaps where the powers that be want us to go.

UMike

This is SOUP's blog, so not much I can say, but if you want to continues to call people sensitive or miserable etc and take indirect shots at people, then dont complain when others "attack" you.

I'm not trying to call you out, I asked EVERYONE to please watch what they say or how they say it so it doesnt create any unhealthy back and forth.

CaneRock

TheeMackJones...I agree...while Shalala did good things for academics, She needs to bow out gracefully as far as football is concerned. I'm sorry, but campaigning for a 40K/+ seat stadium while we've been mired in mediocrity is not smart...not smart AT ALL.

UMike

And Lurker... please dont take that the wrong way, maybe you dont realize how you come across sometimes...just trying to help us ALL out and ask EVERYONE to watch how they say things...if something might come across as a shot, perhaps we can delete or re-word and then post...imo

UMike

I dont think I have an opinion on the Stadium...even a smaller one might look empty most games. I like Sun Life and am looking forward to the updates

Golden keeps his job at 8-4, 7-5 he's done. If we have some bad losses, where we get gutted and it's the same old dog and pony show he's done. Clemson and FSU are in reloading mode, something we use to be able to relate too! Va. Tech defense will be tough and UNC will be good offensively. Duke has a new QB and NEB. lost most of their key players, so what does this mean, with us toss ups. Coaching will make or break us against these teams.

In the 1970s, the University of Miami battled a reputation as Suntan U. But all that sun once shone on a rather, well, drab campus of concrete.

Until Roberta “Bosey” Foote came along.

As the Coral Gables campus emerged and climbed the national rankings for its educational achievements and rose above the Playboy-touted party reputation, its grounds also bloomed under Foote’s direction.

Many would say the two go hand-in-hand.

“She did believe that making places beautiful raised the game,” said her daughter Julia Foote LeStage. “If your surroundings were gorgeous and you respected them, you respected yourself in that space.

“She was a woman of her age often defined by ‘wife of...’ and ‘daughter of...’ but she was a full person. She was Bosey Foote. She was this silent force and had a vision that the UM should be a tropical garden and that was her legacy. If you are competing against Princeton you better look like Shangri-las,” LeStage said.

Foote died of complications from cancer Tuesday at 76. Her work on the UM campus is in every plant, leaf and bit of natural beauty that she helped put there.

Foote first came to the University of Miami in 1981 with her husband, Edward Tad Foote, who was previously dean of the law school at Washington University in St. Louis. Tad Foote served as UM president for 22 years.

Bosey Foote’s attention to the physical beauty of the Coral Gables campus became her mission through an extensive beautification program she helped orchestrate. She opened a series of palmetums featuring palms and cycads from several countries and was an ardent supporter of the university’s John C. Gifford Arboretum, a collection of rare plants and trees maintained for educational and research purposes and to inspire an appreciation for tropical plants.

“Bosey’s contribution to the university has been tremendous,” her husband once said. “The most obvious example is the campus environment, but no one will ever truly know how important she has been to the University of Miami, except me. We’ve done this together.”

Don't recall it being posted, but Armbrister signed with the Jags.

UMike

CR, which Cane/Canes do you think has the best shot at being a 1st rounder next year?

TonyCane

I remember the beautification of the campus really started after Hurricane Andrew. For every tree that was lost it seemed that two of three palm trees replaced it.
