Dear Miami Hurricanes Family,
There are so many experiences and memories I will treasure of my 14 years at the U. Just a couple of weeks ago, we held one of my very favorite annual celebrations—the May commencement ceremonies—where some 3,500 students fulfilled their hard-earned dreams by graduating from the University of Miami. This year’s festivities were especially bittersweet because I knew they were my last as president, and I was deeply touched by the heartfelt good wishes of the Class of 2015, including the hugs from each and every Miller School of Medicine graduate! I’m so proud of all of you.
I also want to thank everyone for the amazing tribute of renaming the Student Activities Center in my honor—I was humbled and overwhelmed by everyone’s outpouring of love, and it was done with the customary Hurricanes’ flair and fun. It’s wonderful to know that generations of future UM students will work, play, and just chill at “Shalala’s.” I am equally thrilled with the planned Miller School medical education building.
The faculty and staff from the Rosenstiel, UHealth and Miller, and Coral Gables campuses have been gifted, inspiring, and dedicated. I thank you all for “teaching” The Prez all these years.
As I prepare to step down, I realize that saying goodbye to my U family isn’t easy—this institution and this community are an indelible part of my DNA. So instead of leaving with a sense of absence or loss, I want to express the greater sense of abundant gratitude I feel for all of you. With excuses to Rodgers and Hammerstein, here are a few of “My Favorite Things” I will always cherish…
Students at study and faculty teaching
Patients in mending and researchers reaching
Diners on gliders for lakeside swings
These are a few of my favorite things
Hammocks on palm trees, alumni a-many
Touchdowns and homeruns and three-pointers plenty
Orange and green and Sebastian’s white wings
These are a few of my favorite things
When the mood slumps
When the road bumps
When I’m feeling sad
I’ll simply remember my favorite things
And then I won’t feel so bad.
Finally, I want to thank my best friend Sebastian the Ibis for always being such a good sport. Here’s a link to his farewell video message to me, in case you haven’t had a chance to see it—I love that bird!
Thank you for the fellowship, for always rising to the occasion, for making me a part of the one and only U family. I’m sure you will give President-elect Frenk and his family a warm and gracious ’Canes welcome when they arrive in Miami. It’s great to be a Miami Hurricane!
I intend to return to the faculty when my leave is over. Until then, my thanks and best wishes.
Thanks for the call JC, ole TBuzz left U holding the bag! LOL

I was trying to place it. Someone said Tyner from Oregon, and I can see that. Was trying to compare him to a former Cane, and only thing I kept thinking was Gore, but he's shiftier than Gore.

Homer bumped to a 4* this morning.
Posted by: Ohio_Cane | June 01, 2015 at 10:16 AM
I was thinking of Gore also, but only 25% of him....LOL

If this team sticks together (leaders besides kaaya emerge), I can see 9-10 wins. if they have whatever it was last season.. Goldie will be gone and the class will look similar to that rb group we had this year.

Homer definitely reminds me of Gore, specifically his balance. Looking at he highlights from "The Opening" tryouts, kid is definitely taller than 5'9" which Rivals shows and looks thicker tan 187 for a 5'10' kid.
Hope he sticks.

DESTIN, Fla. (AP) — The Southeastern Conference has adopted a rule prohibiting its schools from enrolling student-athletes with "serious misconduct" issues at previous colleges.
Call it the Jonathan Taylor statute.
The league defined serious misconduct as "sexual assault, domestic violence or other forms of sexual violence."
No other conference has a similar conduct rule.
Georgia proposed the new legislation in the wake of Taylor's troubles. The Bulldogs dismissed Taylor last July after he was arrested on a charge of felony aggravated assault and family violence. Police said he struck his girlfriend with a closed fist and choked her during an argument at Taylor's dormitory room.
Taylor spent last fall at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi and enrolled at Alabama in January, which raised eyebrows. The Tide dismissed him two months later after he was arrested again on domestic violence charges in Tuscaloosa.

At least he thinks our offense will be almost as good as FSU's. Seminoles: 1-1-1-1 (1st team / 2nd / 3rd / 4th), The U: 0-1-2-1.

Baseball today:
Dallas Baptist beat VCU to move to a rematch for the superregional birth vs. the Coral Gables winner, and is now losing to VCU, 2-0, in the 2nd.
FSU is beating Coll. of Charleston handily so far, up by 6 and still undefeated, in spite of the early close call to Mercer.
Biggest blowout of the regionals so far apparently is going on with Vandy and Radford, now 21-0, Vandy, after a 10 run 5th. 18 hits for Vandy, while Radford has committed 4 errors. This is definitely a day they'd like to forget.
Most important game of all is starting in @20 min. at the Light. The U has to win tonight to advance, let alone to keep me interested in following any more NCAA baseball this season! I expect the appropriate adjustments to be made for the offense in dealing with hitting more offspeed stuff...hopefully. I expect Columbia to keep at it until the U shows they can do something about it.
