The biggest oversight for the failures listed in the article imo is inconsistent o line play. Sure Flowers and Feleciano were drafted, but if you know anything about line play....I do....then you can see the issues. The guys are too fat for me, not enough muscle, not quick fast strong or athletic. They move slow when they pull or reach block, and often are confused by blitzes and stunts on passes. They did well in straight on blocking or quick openers, but not good on sweeps. Duke got some good block straight on and did a lot on his own. Our guys shuffle and shuttle their feet instead of picking them up and hustling....how often do you see them downfield? There is quite a bit of room for many improvements by all on O.

It's gonna be a blast!! Nashville is the shyt!!

Sota...I am 2 hours from Nashville..I might want in on that lol

If any Dolphin fans here want to go to see the Dolphins play the Titans @ Nashville in October let me know. I am hooked up with a fan club out of Northern California and this dude has a great trip planned for the game.

There will be hundreds of Dolphin fans from all across the country flying in for the game. If you've never been to Nashville this would be a great time to visit. The stadium is right across the river from one of the best strip of bars in the country!! Should be a hoot!!

Go Dolphins!!

I am ok with AlPa; not a bad guy at all, certainly not a great Div 1 coach. However, nobody is going anywhere; the regime is aware that the football fans are not happy, and we must let this play out. I am hoping for a good season; face it AlPa is not going to win the NC, much less make the playoff. Not going to happen. However, he can have a good seasonn, have a great class remain intact and we may see a brighter future.
I am not convinced he will ever get us back to glory; I am not convinced he will win a title. He is not a better coach than Beamer, though he is at a school that has won NC.

I am willing to pull for him to get us back to better days, and then see what happens.

Everything gocanes just said.

It's the AD that's supposed to run the sports program. The president of any university must keep his/her focus on other matters, and rightly so. The decision the president will face is whether the AD is doing a good job or not. It's up to the AD to start the process to fire the coach, or not.

Posted by: Lurker | May 12, 2015 at 12:33 PM

Agreed, but the President and BOT likely determine how important athletics will be. Status quo or a commitment to winning. Other schools committed the latter. I'm not sold Miami will do the same.

Just cause U don't believe it doesn't mean its not true, its posted more time than I can count that Donna was going to leave to the Prez to handled Golden HC firing if he fails next season. Donna also asked fans to give Golden more time in his second yr. lol

Terrance Sullivan

UMike sounds good my Brotha.

j.w.

I really can't believe anyone thinks there is even a 1% chance of that happening.

These stories of protection by Shalala and James are ludicrous. Golden staying was decided months ago by the BOT and that was that. No one was waiting in the wings for Donna to leave.

And as far as the new president goes, I'd be shocked if he has spent one second thinking about Golden since the day they spoke. That dude is up to his ears with far, far more pressing and important issues than football right now.

Posted by: Go Canes | May 12, 2015 at 12:25 PM
Go, I can't agree with you on this. I doubt the Board as a whole spent more than 2 minutes considering Golden's status, they have bigger issues to deal with. But, I would be surprised if Frenck didn't have discussions about one of the hot-button issues that has affected Shalala's legacy. He would be a fool not to have considered Golden to be blunt.
What it all means is anyone's guess, but mine is 1) the Board is very much aware of what is going on with perception of the football program, 2) the Board is deferring to James, and will soon give him the proverbial kiss of death by saying they have all the confidence in the world that he will handle Athletics, and 3)that Frenk has no reason to stay loyal to James if things don't work out.
As for whether UM athletics are successful under James, I won't disagree with a lot of what you say. But we aren't doing well in the sport that matters most. Much like the State of Alabama could care less if Alabama wins national titles in gymnastics, softball, women's basketball, cross county, baseball, and/or volleyball if the football team isn't winning, UM supporters are not happy. Trying to sell the current state of UM athletics as a success is like trying to convince someone that a chocolate cake is fantastic when the chocolate in the recipe is terrible.

Go Canes

I agree that the outgoing president did not want to leave that mess for the new one.

But that in no way is an indication that the new guy was going to come in and make a change without knowing anyone involved and all honesty, anything about football either.

UMike

I do agree the new President probably isnt to concerned with football at the moment, and rightfully so.

UMike

TSully....I am thinking of it...and might be in for the FSU game. Not sure yet.

UMike

Lurker, werent you the one that said over and over that Golden wouldn't be fired because the President didnt want to leave that for the next President? I thought that was you...

I think the earliest Golden would get fired is if we stumble badly to start the year, and even that seemss unlikely.

Lurker

Everything gocanes just said.

### A high-ranking UM official who has spent time with new UM president Julio Frenk said he doubts Frenk will inject himself into decisions regarding the future of Al Golden if next season is disappointing and Frenk likely will defer to what athletic director Blake James believes is best.

doesn't sound like athletics are a priority. More of the same I fear.

Sinistercane

Sorry for any confusion as I never said golden will be fired on June 1. I was truly to allude to fact Blakes hands are nolonger tied

Sinistercane

I guess Donna didn't want stain her legacy with 3 fired HC under her presidency

UMike

Kudos for your honesty.

And there, UMike, is your answer.

Posted by: Lurker | May 12, 2015 at 11:23 AM

Not sure I ever asked a question...this proves nothing lol...If he wants to talk about how bad the staff is thats his opinion (one the staff has earned)..if someone wants to say "the new President will make a change if not this many wins" over and over, thats their opinion..either way its beating a dead horse lol

No way Golden gets fired June 1st... BJ I think is locked into this year...hopefully the staff makes changes and improves and doesnt put BJ in a position to make that decision after the season.

Lurker

Donna's technical "last day" is completely irrelevant. She's been gone for months, in the sense that every lame duck leader of large organizations is gone the second they announce they're leaving.

Sinistercane

^^^^

Donna put the breaks on Golden's firing and now with her out of the picture of Golden fails he has no Donna to protect him

June 1st is when Donna leaves

Did you all see this? The ONLY team who did not take money from the Armed Forces to "Honor" military vets during the halftime "Hometown Hero's" program was the New York Giants!

The rest of the NFL teams are charging the military a marketing fee to honor our veterans! The Falcon's have collected over 1 million themselves!! Disgraceful!

Corporate welfare and campaign contributions are the single greatest threat to our liberty today!! We need to stop tripping over dollar bills to pick up nickles from poor people!!

Its not even CLOSE to bashing 24/7...not even close. You have your opinion of beating a dead horse, and I have mine.

I'm not "pro-Golden", I'm pro UM.

I don't make post after post about Golden. Positive or negative.

When every little bit of info or trivia spit out by a columnist is generally always turned into a huge negative and yet another reason to start bashing, to me, that's beating a dead horse.

In my opinion, what distinguished this site from all the others, in the past, was that most posters love the U. ALL THE U. Top to bottom. All sports. It's sad to see it slowly turning into every other site or comment section out there, where its bashing 24/7. It's not there yet, but some people seem determined to take it there.

Could Jameis Winston's replacement at Florida State be the same quarterback that nearly defeated him last season?

Citing "multiple sources with intimate knowledge of Golson's situation," 247Sports' Ryan Bartow reported Monday that the Seminoles are the "front-runner" to land former Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson. The former BCS Championship Game starter announced last week he was transferring out of South Bend.

"Barring a last-minute change of heart or any influence from elsewhere, [Florida State's] where he's headed,” a source told Bartow.

Notre Dame has reportedly declined to release Golson to opponents on the Irish's 2015 schedule -- including Texas -- as well as several Big Ten teams. Golson was connected with a possible transfer to multiple SEC schools, most notably South Carolina and Georgia, but that transfer would have required a waiver from the league office due to Golson's 2013 academic suspension.

If Golson does land at Florida State, he would be expected to battle redshirt junior Sean Maguire for the job of replacing the Heisman-winning Winston, who led the Seminoles to a national title and playoff berth in his two seasons under center in Tallahassee.

The Irish and Seminoles memorably faced each other just last season, with only a late offensive pass inteference call on a Golson touchdown pass preserving Winston's then-perfect record as a starter. Golson's career at Notre Dame spanned 25 games and featured 5,850 passing yards to go with 41 touchdowns -- but after Golson's turnover-fueled late season slump, it wasn't enough to keep Brian Kelly from starting Malik Zaire in the Irish's Music City Bowl upset of LSU.

I'm 3 for 3:

### Former UM basketball player Joe Thomas, who tried out for the Dolphins as a defensive end the past two days, said he hadn’t played football since Pop Warner, before high school, and hadn’t even met or worked out for the Dolphins before this weekend.

About a month ago, he told a graduate assistant on the UM basketball staff that he wanted to try football, and that assistant and an agent began contacting NFL teams.

The 6-7, 245-pound Thomas, who transferred from Niagara to UM last summer, said the Dolphins were the only team to show interest in auditioning him and his invitation to rookie minicamp surprised him.

He chose to play defensive end “because it feels the most natural, like when you’re going up for a rebound.”

He said he didn’t play football in high school because “I didn’t have time. But I’ve always loved football.”

UMike

Anyone going to the UNC game on 11/15 in North Carolina?

UMike

Go Canes,..I agree with those statements...well except "unprecedented success"(6-7)...however he also had ZERO issue with Golden having a 6-7 season and an embarrassing finish to the season. Not only was Golden retained after one of the worst coaching jobs in Miami history, but he was not forced to make any staff changes. If that is what we have to look forward to in James, in regards to Golden and football, then we are in trouble.

Go Canes

Under Blake James we are experiencing unprecedented success in our sports programs, record breaking season ticket numbers in football, a massive increase in donations and a never before seen upgrading of our facilities.

So last year he needed to check of 2 of the following 3 items.

(A) win the Coastal. Nope.
(B) win 10 games. Nope.
(C) win a bowl. Nope.

As we all know, I don't think he deserves to be here anyway, so in my opinion we can check (C) off the list for next year because if he doesn't do (A) or (B) before a bowl, I'm hoping he'll be canned.

Former Florida Gator and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez is facing another criminal charge: witness intimidation, prosecutors said Monday.

A grand jury indicted Hernandez on Friday on the latest charge, according to the office of Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley. It said the victim of the intimidation was a witness to the Boston killings, which happened on July 16, 2012.

“Hernandez allegedly shot him in the face on the morning of Feb. 13, 2013, and left him to die on the side of the road in Riviera Beach, Florida, after the witness made a remark about the homicides,” the office said in a news release.

He also faces two counts of murder in Boston, where he is accused of gunning down two men in 2012 after one caused him to spill his drink at a nightclub.
