University of Miami Hall of Famers and football greats Randal Hill and Andre Johnson will host the 5th Annual Habitat for Humanity of the Upper Keys/University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame (UMSHoF) Celebrity Dolphin Fishing Tournament June 26-27 in Islamorada, Florida. Event activities will take place at Founders Park at Mile Marker 87 on the Overseas Highway.
The tournament weekend will begin Friday evening with a kick-off party, silent auction and captains’ meeting followed on Saturday by a full day of fishing, awards dinner and live and silent auctions featuring unique sports memorabilia as well as a variety of gift packages. This is the only fishing event of its kind that matches participants with former Miami Hurricanes sports stars for the competition. Cash prizes and trophies will be presented to anglers in eight categories. A portion of the tournament proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity of the Upper Keys ,The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis , Coastal Conservation Association and the UMSHoF.
“I am very proud of how far we’ve come with this fundraising event,” said K.C. Jones , president of the UMSHoF, a 2008 hall inductee, two-time Super Bowl winner with the Denver Broncos and founder of the tournament. “In only five years we’ve not only created the largest fishing tournament in the Florida Keys, but we’ve established the tournament as an opportunity for fans to get to know their favorite former Hurricanes players, all supporting the Miami and Florida Keys communities while raising money for important causes.”
Hill added: “It’s an honor to host an event that has such a powerful draw and impact on the University of Miami Community. I can’t wait to get back down to the Keys and compete with my friends! Go Canes!”
Johnson said: “I’m so excited to continue the tradition of great Canes hosting this event. I’m looking forward to reconnecting with Canes fans and all my former teammates. We are all about the U!”

The NCAA penalized UM in Oct. 2013 for misdeeds committed by booster Nevin Shapiro. So far, one player from UM’s 2014 signing class has transferred. Golden said players are sticking around because they’re certain of the team’s future.
“There’s less attrition now because there’s less turmoil,” he said. “It’s a much better culture to be in, much better place to be around. There’s a lot of discontent when you’re going through something like that. It’s human nature to feel like you’re let down or betrayed.”
There Golden goes with his bs...the players either didnt qualify, transferred due to playing time, were arrested or booted for breaking team rules...I cant remember a SINGLE signee leave because of the NCAA.
Tell us kids are sticking around because you recruited better, that your staff took less chances, tell us kids are sticking around because they believe in what you're building...but please dont try to keep the NCAA excuse alive. Just when I think Golden was turning the corner on his BS train he tries to sell us on some more.
Posted by: UMike | May 15, 2015 at 12:24 PM
And before the homers jump on me...I am NOT talking about recruiting or losing out on recruits due to the NCAA...I am talking about...and so was the article...all the kids we lost AFTER they signed.
Posted by: UMike | May 15, 2015 at 12:26 PM
UMike spot on Brotha.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | May 15, 2015 at 12:34 PM
Ditto what Terrance said.
Posted by: CaneRock | May 15, 2015 at 12:39 PM
TSully...there are like 10 other things that he could of said that sounded good and were truthful to somewhat truthful and yet he still chose to use the NCAA stuff.
Posted by: UMike | May 15, 2015 at 12:42 PM
Where's WWIM at?
Does He really miss seeing that big flaming red ball in the middle of the court this time of year that much?
Is He really taking it that hard?!

BB King is an American Icon. I'm not sad though, the man is immortal through his music.
UMike,
Great point man, but the negativity police just got dispatched for all hands on deck.
Posted by: The Dude | May 15, 2015 at 01:15 PM
Maybe he chose to say it because it's true.
I know that's a crazy assumption but the guy is around the team on a daily basis.
Posted by: Go Canes | May 15, 2015 at 01:25 PM
I wasn't even trying to be negative...just calling Golden out. I just recently gave him credit for not using excuses lately and making changes etc...those comments sounded like the Golden from mediocrity past haha
Posted by: UMike | May 15, 2015 at 01:26 PM
Go Canes....really man? This is NOT TRUE. Name players that didn't make it in, transferred or were booted that gave the NCAA mess for the reason.
Posted by: UMike | May 15, 2015 at 01:28 PM
The truth would of been more like "guys are sticking around because we took less changes in recruiting"...or "guys are sticking around because they believe we are building something special".. or "we have recruited a better character kid" any of those would of done and been truthful...what he said was complete and utter bs.
Posted by: UMike | May 15, 2015 at 01:29 PM
REAL reasons why we lost players...
Grades and/or test scores
Violation of team rules
Arrested
Lack of playing time
Scheme
None of which have anything to do with the NCAA and our violations
Posted by: UMike | May 15, 2015 at 01:31 PM
Bu if you want to believe Golden that is your business and choice...I just know bs when I see it.
Posted by: UMike | May 15, 2015 at 01:32 PM
took less chances****

Go Canes, Patteron will most likely be a 4 or 5 Star when his class comes around. Going to be a long battle to keep him. Good pick up.
