Just the facts, no opinions:
The Florida State Seminoles have been to the NCAA college baseball tournament 38 times. From all of those opportunities the Seminoles have won ZERO national championships.
The University of Miami Hurricanes have been to the NCAA college baseball tournament 43 times. From those opportunities the Hurricanes have won FOUR national championships.
Here is a short list of teams that have made the most appearances in the NCAA baseball tournament:
43 - Miami
38 - Florida State
24 - Cal State Fullerton
21 - Rice
13 - Arkansas
From that list only FSU and Arkansas have never won a NCAA baseball national championship. Miami and Cal State-Fullerton have won four each. The Rice Owls won the NCAA baseball title in 2003.
In fact, FSU leads a very undistinguished list of teams who have made the most College World Series appearances that have never won a championship.
Here is that list:
- 21 - FSU
- 12 - Clemson
- 10 - North Carolina
- 9 - Mississippi State
- Florida - 8
- Arkansas - 7
Miami ranks 4th in overall wins at the CWS with a total of 47. FSU did not even make the list.
Miami ranks 5th in CWS finals appearances with 6 (4 titles, 2 runner-up finishes). Again, the Seminoles are nowhere to be found on the list.
So, we will let you draw your own conclusions from this set of facts. Please comment and share your opinion on the blog!
1st again!

It's abaout time the Canes brought home another CWS trophy.
This year's team has all it takes, they just need to put it all together now.
Another 10 or 11 wins should do.

5.5 is a joke. Even if the losses of Dorsett, Walford, Duke, Perryman, Chickillo and Flowers hurt more than we think, this is won't turn out to be one of the worst Hurricane teams in the past 30 years.

We will have an All American caliber QB and the deepest defensive line we've had here in years.
Both will go along way in solving our two biggest problems last year, stopping the run and second half scoring.

All experts agreed that going 6-7 was a masterpiece in underachievment this past season.
While I have my reservations about us winning 9 or more games this year, I cannot see us regressing even further and going 5-7 or worse (which is what an over-under of 5.5 implies).
Posted by: VfB_Cane | May 27, 2015 at 05:17 PM
After reading that article, I'm convinced more than ever that baseball is random as hell when it comes down to winning Championships.
Posted by: CaneRock | May 27, 2015 at 05:45 PM
Heck Vegas don't believe we are gonna go 5-7 look at those horrendous odds if U take over U have to pay 160 dollars to win a 100 dollars translation they feel our Canes will win at least 6 or more games. Read between the lines.

Miami's floor is 6 wins. Take the over on 5.5. Miami plays Bethune-Cookman and FAU to start 2015. Miami will be 2-0 with the rest of the season to win 4 more. If Miami isn't 2-0 then someone set the school on fire and burn it down.
Blake should know when to shutup.

1. We will have new uniforms.
2. The cheerleaders get better every year.
3. Tailgates are to die for!
4. Most importantly, Sun Life will have more shade.
Those facts alone equal 10 wins EASY.

So 6 wins in 2015 is greater than 6 wins in 2014? I know what youre saying though.
This is how bad Al is, 2014 Canes should have competed for the playoffs, instead they didnt even win the Coastal. Miami is trying to build champs with chumps.

Posted by: TonyCane | May 27, 2015 at 09:30 PM
LOL at the criticism of Blake James because he's taking every opportunity to ask for money. That's his job!
Of all the big time programs, the U is the one with the least money and resources. And they have a hard time competing, on the money level, with the big players down here, especially in the south. You name the program, he has twice the resources and revenue of Miami.
That's why the school, Blake James in particular, ask for money all the time. They have to. End of story. You go Blake, keep asking for money. We need it. Complaints and whining don't put money into the pot. It's sorely needed.
PS: Soup, any reason why my comments are blocked or not showing up?
Posted by: Lur-ker | May 27, 2015 at 09:30 PM
I have zero problem with Blake hitting guys up for money. My problem is statements that say being a champion isn't about wins and losses.
Posted by: The Dude | May 27, 2015 at 09:42 PM
A ludicrous statement? Miami had as much talent as anyone, I didn't say they should have been in the playoffs, I said they should have competed for the playoffs, which they should have. Your defense of all things Al is ludicrous. The guy did the worst job in America last year, most of the fan base hates him because thus far he has absolutely sucked. They team put as much talent in the NFL as anyone but you think my statement is ludicrous. Lol.
Posted by: The Dude | May 27, 2015 at 09:48 PM
Posted by: The Dude | May 27, 2015 at 09:42 PM
I'll agree the statement might be poorly worded, but his intention is correct, and that's what I'm getting at.
As far as that particular statement, I learned a long time ago not to take printed comments too seriously when there's room to review the statement in context. How. Someone says something, and context, and the tone in which they say, is almost important as the statement itself.
I can't remember the situation, but a couple weeks ago people were getting all up in arms about some statements that Golden said, but if you listened to the actual comments on the Rose interview, they were totally innocuous.
It's like if someone overhears me saying to a buddy, "I'm going to kill him" and prints it, but in context, we were laughing and high-fiving. That's an extreme example, but until I hear or read the entire article, at least gets more context I won't even criticize the possible clumsiness of that statement. There are other things that are more crucial that are much more important to criticize him on, including not raising enough money
Posted by: Lur-ker | May 27, 2015 at 10:02 PM
It's all a reflection of Miami not firing Al. Blake hitched his wagon to the Al Golden criticism for better or worse. Al, Blake and Donna will have every word twisted to its worse possible context because Al has done a poor job and is worthy of termination. I definitely agree that Blake has to raise as much money as possible, but please stop lowering Miami's football standards. And I know Miami does a lot more than football, that's cool for all the guys who are alumns, for everyone else it's football, football, football with a side of football and football for desert with a scoop of football on top. Simply put, Al hasn't won enough and most doubt he'll win enough. Al has never done anything to prove he's worth waiting on and is at a point where he has to overachieve to make up for his constant underachieving. If Al overachieves next year, it will be the first time he's done it at Miami.
Posted by: The Dude | May 27, 2015 at 10:13 PM
Louisville had three more players drafted than us.
Missouri, Oklahoma, Stanford had just one less than us.
The GATORS had more guys get picked than us for goodness sakes.
Yes we underachieved. But to jump to playoff contender is a major stretch. Quality depth across nearly all positions does that. We absolutely did not have that.
So yes, it's a ludicrous statement.
Posted by: Go Canes | May 27, 2015 at 10:18 PM
James is doing a fine job by the way.
We've had unprecedented investment into our sports programs, record season ticket numbers in football, the biggest individual gifts we've ever had and we have NCAA tourney quality teams in a multitude of sports. All of this is being done with a shoe string budget by big time college athletics standards.
Not firing Al Golden before some wanted is a pretty myopic view of what's happening at the U.

Go Canes...please stop stating the OBVIOUS facts, and just go with opinions, OK?
Posted by: 86Cane | May 27, 2015 at 10:26 PM
Louisville had a coach in their first year. The Gators fired Muschamp for his performance and Missouri, Oklahoma and Stanford's HCs have actually done something at their respective schools. Stanford had 8 wins, Missouri had 11 wins and played in the SEC CG, Oklahoma had 8 wins also. So with one less, the each managed at least 2 more wins playing in tougher conferences.

We have a baseball regional this weekend, yet we barely discuss it here. Why not focus on how this really good team is doing? This team isn't in a used to matter stage, but is actively mattering right now. For those who are able/live close enough, show up this weekend at the Light. There is little in baseball like the excitement of college regionals/superregionals.
For those who follow, the U regional winner, which hopefully will be the host (again, as I'd said in a past post, ECU is not to be taken lightly), will take on the winner of the Dallas Baptist regional in a superregional. I'd mentioned that this is a scary looking regional given the likes of former champions Oregon State and UTexas, along with VCU, playing there. That being said, only Dallas Baptist is ranked, interestingly enough. I think Texas won the Big 12 with a record barely above .500. Dallas Bapt. may be the best team this season that nobody has heard of.
Of other interest, the UF regional champ will play the FSU regional champ in their superregional. This means that there is no chance for the big 3 FL teams to all end up in Omaha.
On a side note, 86, when will the stadium changes be in place (ie more shade)? I thought it's supposed to be in 2016.

Who's lowering Miami's football standards? Certainly not me.
As far as other sports, I'm extremely proud of what the University of Miami has done in all sports whatever they may be. Also, it's inaccurate to say that you have to be an alum to be into other sports at the U. I know several people that blog here that are into all the other programs that aren't necessarily alums. Some people love ALL the U

Chill, drop a pill, have a cold beverage and enjoy the process. It will either get you to where you want to be or not. But don't get your knickers in a bunch or your panties in a wad for no reason! It is just sports and games and making money at real estate! That is all...

Jcane is right. We all love the football team, but it's time to get excited about this regional coming up. I can't wait till Friday at seven, I'm definitely going to be there. It's going to be funny because FIU hates us to death. You can't blame them they're little brother in the big city, that nobody pays attention to. They always have some good players because they're drawing from one of the best areas, which is Miami, for baseball players.
