For the 26th time in program history, the University of Miami has been selected to host one of 16 Regional sites for the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
Miami (44-14) will be making its NCAA-record 43rd consecutive postseason appearance this week when play at the Coral Gables Regional begins Friday, May 29 at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
Miami is one of just three ACC schools to host the Regional Round, joining Louisville and Florida State.
The last season Miami hosted a regional was 2014, when second-seeded Texas Tech, third-seeded Columbia and fourth-seeded Bethune-Cookman visited Alex Rodriguez Park in late May through early June.
The Coral Gables Regional field, as well as the entire field of 64, will be announced Monday at 12 p.m. on ESPNUβs Division I Baseball Selection Show βThe Road to Omaha.β

The ACC did pretty well, aside from Louisville, UM and FSU getting regionals, with Notre Dame, UVa, NC State and Clemson all going to regionals. Notre Dame will stay close to home, playing in the Illini regional. UF gets the #4 national seed, bringing in 3 other FL schools in their regional (FAU, USF and FAMU).
The U opens with FIU, a team that got the automatic C-USA bid by winning their conference tnmt. This happened in spite of them being the #8 seed in their conference. On paper against a .500 team, the U should win, but we all know how this can work, especially when playing a team that has been hot. East Carolina, the #2 seed in the Gables, won the AAC (ie former Big East) conference tnmt. championship as the 2 seed beating the #1 seed Houston. ECU scored a mess of runs with 2 outs, and the U's pitching staff definitely has had some trouble closing out teams lately, so the U has to fix a few things and regain some confidence. Columbia won the Ivy championship series in a 2 of 3 series vs. Dartmouth. They played well in conference all season, but the pre conference schedule makes them appear more beatable, not faring well in series vs. Houston, UCF, Duke, etc. As would be expected, the #2 seed ECU Pirates look to be the most dangerous team in this regional, so it would be nice to see the U get the old offensive engine going to not wait for 9th inning nailbiting again.
Scariest looking regional for a host is likely Dallas Baptist as a one seed, hosting 2 and 3 seeds like Oregon State and Texas, both past national champions.

Derrick Griffin says He's eligible...JS.
Posted by: CaneRock | May 26, 2015 at 09:22 AM
Is he any good? Is he a Safety or CB? How may years of eligibility?
Posted by: Da U N Houston | May 26, 2015 at 09:47 AM
Derrick Griffin, a former five-star wide receiver who attends Texas Southern, might be eligible to transfer out of the Houston college and play immediately at the school of his choosing this fall.
Griffin, a former Texas A&M commit, never signed a national letter of intent at Texas Southern; he enrolled as a normal student. So, he has four years of eligibility left and should be able to play right away, after making good grades this past year.
The 6-foot-6, 216-pound wideout vaguely addressed the report on Twitter this afternoon.
Griffin would be a major addition to any program. According to 247 Sports, Texas A&M is his first choice but Miami and TCU are also interested.

@CanesBaseball: VOTE for David Thompson for the Golden Spikes Award - every click matters! http://t.co/JjYIHXDWLG http://t.co/JHtu6iJOuu
Posted by: Go Canes | May 26, 2015 at 11:02 AM
The "vote again" button put a little doubt in my mind whether the Golden Spikes Award voting will end with a result that reflects public opinion.
Posted by: VfB_Cane | May 26, 2015 at 11:09 AM
I just voted 50 times for Thompson and it didn't move it a sing percent.
Posted by: The Dude | May 26, 2015 at 11:33 AM
Math says it wouldn't move for only 50 votes
Posted by: Lurker | May 26, 2015 at 11:49 AM
It doesn't say total votes.
Posted by: The Dude | May 26, 2015 at 12:07 PM
Logic says total votes would be higher than the tens of thousands.
Posted by: Lurker | May 26, 2015 at 12:10 PM
Good thing we have Lurker to point out everything. Give it a rest.
Posted by: The Dude | May 26, 2015 at 12:33 PM
It also says "Results delayed up to 5 minutes."
Maybe they are checking for consecutive votes with the same IP address to eliminate bots.
Posted by: VfB_Cane | May 26, 2015 at 12:48 PM
We need lots of people voting all the time. These things are geared to much larger fan bases with lots of time to spare.
Also, just pointing out the facts, Dude. Just the facts. Nothing else. Let the facts speak for themselves.
Posted by: Lurker | May 26, 2015 at 01:39 PM

5.5 is a joke. Even if the losses of Dorsett, Walford, Duke, Perryman, Chickillo and Flowers hurt more than we think, this is won't turn out to be one of the worst Hurricane teams in the past 30 years.

So the Cavs sweep the best team in the East in the conference finals without Kevin Love and with an oft-injured Kyrie? LOL, goodness.
Cavs/Warriors should be a good time.

At a $75 per person revenue number, UF is generating almost $15 million more in game $$ per season alone.
Attendance matters.
