Sounds like a new campaign slogan to me, "Hillary 2016, I'd tap that."

Heartbreaking loss in extras tonight. Canes haven't been hitting since hitting the ACC tnmt, and tonight they paid the price. Biggest issue with this loss is that the best record they can now have is 2-1, which is the worst NC State could have, IF they lost to UVa, and a tie doesn't win the head to head tiebreaker. No way for a 3 team tie breaker, as NDU and UM play, and only one can win. Looks to me like NC State is now in the ACC championship game. I guess the positive is less wear and tear on the pitching staff, but that's the only one I can see. At least a win over NDU tomorrow would let them come out with a 2-1 record and ending their tnmt. on a positive note, and hopefully a decent seeding. It might be tough to hit a top 8 right now though, although a top 16 and a regional bid seems likely.

Lurker

Loss is no big deal.

13 straight, you knew it had to end.

Single elimination tournament? meh

Canes haven't been hitting? They had 9 runs their previous game. You're not one of those fire Jim Morris types are you?

To all of those who served, we salute U!

Lurker

Amen to that.

All who served must be recognized for their service.

A special shoutout to those in the front that served with combat duty and put their lives on the line. A special thank you.

The biggest thank you of all goes to those who sacrificed their lives in service to our country. To me, this is the real meaning of Memorial Day.

Remember the fallen.

Lurker:

I love Morris and UM baseball, which has been pretty clear here over the years. I don't know where you'd get that idea, or that they'd been hitting in the tnmt. They scored 9 runs in game one with an amazing 8th inning with 7 runs, partially by way of a UVa error. They'd only had a few scattered hits prior, so the inning was quite a relief in a tnmt. where every game is so important. There weren't many hits vs. NC State either, and as sometimes happens in baseball, they didn't get them when they most needed them and had chances to score, like in the last inning of the game. This is just the way things are and not the way the last 13 games had been.

This is a very good team. My saying that the second seeded team in the ACC that didn't win or go to the ACC championship game might not be in the top 8 doesn't make me a basher.....just being realistic, although I hope I'm wrong. Which would hold more weight with a selection committee, a hot UM team that got cold in the ACC tnmt or a cold end of season FSU team that MIGHT (still don't know yet) have gotten hot in the ACC tnmt and won it? Regardless, they have to find a way to win from here on, and the regional should likely be at the friendly confines of the Light.

As for Centeieo, not a surprise. He is at Dwyer now. How many players from Dwyer go to UM? Some verbal, but very few stick...

Lurker

Jcane, over the last few years there has been a small but very persistent group that wants Morris fired like right now.

Again, though, on the basis of only one game I wouldn't say the bats have gone cold. In the previous game they scored nine runs. Nine runs is nine runs.

As far as how they scored their runs, there have been plenty of times prior when the scored runs in bunches.

I'll say this, in the tournament they had one games when the bats were hot (nine runs) and one game were they weren't so hot, and where a blown save and not great pitching in extra innings lost us the game. That's what actually happened.

Also, I don't believe there is any way we win the tournament or even get to the final. Even if we win today, and NC State loses, we're tied with them and they go, right?

Therefore the ND game today is just for bragging rights, essentially meaningless. Let's get ready for the regionals!

@mattyports: This morning, @aaronfitt has Miami as one of five locks for a national seed (LSU, UCLA, Louisville, Illinois are the others).

Lurker

Also, this:

@mattyports: This morning, @aaronfitt has Miami as one of five locks for a national seed (LSU, UCLA, Louisville, Illinois are the others).

So, if were still in the hunt for the eight national seeds, then today's game is important even if we don't make it to the ACC tournament title.

I'll take that any day, including Sunday.

CaneRock

but we are not good at developing athletes to new positions.

Corn Elder?...don't recall seeing any tape of Him playing CB in HS.

That whole "instincts" & "a HS Safety is a College Safety" is a COPOUT...a COPOUT for Williams' failures at recruiting.

Go Canes

What program is good at it?

Most, if not all the national powers are bringing in players at the position where they stay. If not there's another 4-5 star behind him ready to take his position.

Don't think you'll find many who have last year's 3rd string RB starting at safety the next year.

But it's getting better.

Da U N Houston

I agree with Paul W. Being a terrible coach who has not developed anyone. That's why you have to get players who already know the basics of playing Safety. As for Corn, you can put him at multiple positions and his athleticism will carry him to be good. But with good coaching he could be great.

CaneRock

"What program is good at it?"

TCU...who's HC modeled His defense after somebody else that was "good at it"...Jimmy Johnson.:

"Coach P has this keen eye for finding certain players that might be under the radar and getting the most out of them," said Hughes, now with the Buffalo Bills.

This TCU team is stocked with similar players.

All-American linebacker Paul Dawson was a lightly recruited wide receiver out of Dallas Skyline High School. All-Big 12 safety Sam Carter was a high school quarterback.

And Trevone Boykin, a two-star recruit who finished last season at receiver, turned himself into one of the top quarterbacks in the country.

CaneRock

"In 2007, Jerry Hughes arrived at TCU with little fanfare as a running back. Patterson immediately turned Hughes into a defensive end. And before he left, Hughes worked his way into a unanimous All-American and first-round draft pick."

JCane

Lurker:

I hope the national lock is right. Nothing I'd like better than to see them as a superregional host guarantee, assuming a regional win, of course.

NC State is an automatic qualifier for the ACC championship game, no matter what. The U just needs to beat NDU for the sake of beating them and staying sharp.

Just a reminder, as a veteran and serving my time in Iraq, I'm incredibly thankful for still being here today. Monday is a day to remember our fallen, Veterans Day is the day to thank our vets who have made it through and come out the other side alive. I'm grateful and will always remember the ultimate sacrifice my brothers in arms have given. So this weekend, it's not about thanking a vet( most would be offended), spend sometime time in remembrance and be thankful for those who've given their lives to protect our country.

JCane

Thank you to all who served or who are serving. Your service is VERY appreciated.

JCane

Bottom of the 1st, NDU is the visitor and no runs. The U leads off the bottom of the 1st with a Eusebio walk. Followed by a DP and then an Iskenderian fly out. To the 2nd they go at 0s.

JCane

5th inning, NDU just scored a run to take a 3-2 lead. NDU scored 2 in the 2nd, the U scored 2 in the 3rd to tie. Could be better, could be worse. The NDU 2nd saw a UM error allow an unearned run, but a runner caught stealing helped stop a big inning. From the U, still only 2 hits with one out now in the bottom of the 5th. The runs scored were with some small ball and some help. A walk, an error, a passed ball, etc. Taking advantage of these things on a bigger and consistent level was how the Canes were demolishing everyone the last few weeks. Of course, baseball goes in spurts. Good thing I spoke, as Collins nails a HR into right center...tied at 3-3.

JCane

Thompson has been quite the hitter this year. It is a huge help for Collins to bat in front of him. That being said, Collins goes down for the 2nd out in the 5th. Kennedy flies out to end the inning and head to the 6th.

JCane

Bottom of the 6th, still at 3s, one out for the U. on a Lopez groundout.

JCane

Abreu with the single, then Heyward Ks, two down. Eusebio grounds out. To the 7th still knotted at 3.

JCane

NDU opens the 7th with a Biggio double down the RF line. Yes, he is Craig's son, for those old enough to remember him from the majors.

JCane

Sac bunt moves him to 3rd with one out, and the U brings in Mediavilla to pitch.

JCane

Big K for out 2. Gotta make Mediavilla feel a bit better than last night, although out 3 will help his confidence more. Relief pitching has to hold consistently when playing quality teams. Lidge Ks to end the inning. Way to close them down and strand an opening double. Bottom of the 7th coming up.
