University of Miami juniors George Iskenderian and David Thompson were among those players recognized with NCBWA All-America first-team honors, the organization announced Wednesday.
The honor was the first of Iskenderian's career and the second for Thompson, who was named a Louisville Slugger All-American by collegiate Baseball Newspaper in late May.
A native of Englewood Cliffs, N.J., Iskenderian became just the second Hurricane to ever capture the ACC’s batting title, finishing the regular season with a .391 batting average to rank No. 1 in the league. He also led the ACC in both total hits (81) and runs scored (61) in the regular season, and ranked third in steals (22) and on-base percentage (.482) over the same timeframe.
Iskenderian was selected in the seventh round of the 2015 MLB Draft by Milwaukee Tuesday.
A junior from Miami, Fla., Thompson earned first-team All-ACC accolades by the league’s coaches after a dominant season in the middle of Miami’s offense. The nation’s RBI leader (87) and tied for the national home run lead (19), Thompson was a critical member of a Miami offense that finished the regular season ranked first nationally in runs scored and runs per game.
Thompson was selected in the fourth round of the 2015 MLB Draft by New York Tuesday.

Posted by: NativeCane | June 15, 2015 at 09:18 PM
I had a few day break, and although watching Cane baseball, also took the mandatory break the blog and the internet in general. 86 wouldn't understand these things though!
The problem since the post-season has been consistent and timely hitting. Fortunately, they had one player tonight with timely hitting in Heyward. They didn't get many hits on the night, and Arkansas committed a bunch of errors, but at least they found a way to win and buy themselves more time to get the hitters comfortable. I have a hard time seeing UVa beating FU, but UVa has been playing good ball, and who knows. Canes get the loser of the game, and the winner of this has to then beat tonight's winner twice to advance. Funny how I am almost as happy when FU loses as when the U wins.
Vandy had quite the 9th inning comeback win over CSF with the 3 run shot to take the game 4-3.

Posted by: jcane | June 16, 2015 at 06:36 AM
Pitching has been a bit of an adventure, but the U managed to not give up the worst case scenario hits last night, as happened in the CWS opener.
For those complaining about the U not necessarily playing their best, I can imagine highly rated teams like UCLA and Louisville wish they were in the U's position right now (ie still playing). FWIW, the highest seeded team in the CWS, LSU, lost its opener, too. Of the 4 seeded teams, only one hasn't lost yet, although TCU hasn't played game 2 yet either. I still don't like how teams get bracketed based on the original seed in the regionals. Why would the 4 highest seeds have to open with each other, as happened? Okay, time to work.

Good points JC.
Let's hope the Canes' rally monkey is dutifully hyped for the game against the University of Gainesville on Wednesday night.

LBJ....(I dont say King ain't but 1Almighty)....is a fine athlete has to do it all for sure....but he and Jordan both want foul every play....never was big Jordan guy...unreal player...cried mucho. LBJ ducks that shoulder bulls by and into people like Jim Brown. ...but if he misses he wants a call ....every time. He has gotten like whiny Jordan....who thought everyone was trying to end his career. ..they are great...but I like some physical play on both sides.

Second team in the CWS goes home today in CSF, my darkhorse pick to make the final. Nobody wants to be picked by me....kiss of death. LSU stays alive in the elimination (aka loser) bracket.
TCU and Vandy are in the bottom of the 5th still knotted at 0, and Vandy hasn't gotten a hit yet. Since nobody has scored, the no-hitter doesn't matter a whole bunch yet. The winner of this game would be one win away from the championship series, as is UVa. Hard to believe a team that was 0 for the ACC tnmt. is playing so unbelievably well. UVa also played UM tough during the season, winning their home series. Let's hope we get to worry about this by sending the turds home in the rematch.
Articles a few days ago were all about UF wanting to be state champions by beating UM after having beaten all of the other FL schools in the regional and then superregional. I guess the did. However, if the state champs from Gainesville lose tomorrow, I guess it would mean they'd be back in their home state shortly after to enjoy! Allons-y, Canes!....if Monty were still around, he'd tell us that's let's go in French.
Golden State is putting it to the Cavs so far tonight.

I guess when you have never, ever, won a championship in baseball, you make up fake championships so you can feel better about yourself. All the talk from the turds, but I see that trophy case is still empty.
They need 4 even come look us in the eye!
Posted by: Lur-ker | June 16, 2015 at 10:06 PM
Vandy finds a way to win on a HR yet again, taking a 1-0 victory away from the last of the seeded teams that hadn't lost, TCU. Vandy pulled this one out by way of all of 3 hits. Wow. Last year's champs are proving tough to beat in this CWS. TCU and LSU will play for the right to then have to take two in a row from Vandy.
Lurker: I don't look turds in the eye. Never know what I'll have to wipe out!

Down 10-11 points with two minutes left, a margin that can and has been overcome in the MBA any ties in the past, LeBron and Cleveland flat-out quit and just didn't even bother to play anymore. Bunch of quitters.
It really hurt them, because then JR Smith started getting hot on threes and they got a whole lot closer i in the last two minutes . That's why you never quit. Ever. Bunch of sorry quitters.

LOL no! There is plenty of question about it, some might even think it's delusional to think that.
Don't do it, don't be a part of the excuse machine for LeBron.
I know Cleveland is your team, and LeBron is your boy, but don't fall for the hype.
Kyrie and Love are not even half the combination of the player Wade was or is, even with Wade injured and not playing all the time. I still say the Warriors win the series with Tyree and with Love playing, but it might have taken seven games.
Did you see Lebron quit last night? Is that a championship mentality? The only reason he has his two rings is because of his supporting cast at Miami. LeBron doesn't get his two rings without Riley, DWade, and the supporting cast in Miami, just like Miami doesn't get the those two rings without LeBron.
But thanks for helping getting us those two rings Bron.
Good luck sniffing another championship, LeBron.
I predict the rest of his career will be a long string of failed player acquisitions, players coming and going, trying to find just the right combination, coaches coming and going, just like Blatt is going to be leaving this season.
LeBron wants to be not only the best player in the world, but the coach and general manager as well. It won't work. He had what he needed at Miami with Riley, and he walked away.
