Top-seeded Miami cruised to its first Super Regional berth since 2010 Monday night at Mark Light Field, toppling No. 3 seed Columbia 21-3 in the Coral Gables Regional championship game.
A night after its potent lineup was held to just two hits and no runs, Miami (47-15) scored at least one run in each of the championship game’s first six innings, including an eight-run fourth, to capture the 28th regional title in program history.
The 20 runs were the most in a postseason game since the Hurricanes scored 21 in a College World Series game vs. Tennessee in 2001, and marked the fourth time Miami scored at least 20 runs this season.
“A lot of our players played well, in particular today,” head coach Jim Morris said. “It was a big effort. I want to congratulate Columbia on their season…they played hard. They’re a team that never gave up. I commend them for their effort, for their season, and for what they did at our ballpark.”
Miami came just two runs shy of its Regional run record of 22 set in 1985 vs. Princeton.
The Hurricanes, who earned the No. 5 national seed for the NCAA postseason, will host Dallas Regional champions and No. 4 seed VCU in the Coral Gables Super Regional– a best-of-three series beginning Friday, June 5.
Sophomore Willie Abreu was among Miami’s top offensive contributors, finishing a double shy of the cycle in a 3-for-4, five-RBI performance. Abreu’s towering three-run home run in the sixth earned him a curtain call from the 3,115 in attendance, who serenaded him with chants of “Wil-lie!”
Yep.

10-2.
This team is deeper than its been in years.
We lost a lot but we still have a roster loaded with guys who can make plays, especially at the offensive skill positions and for the first time, the defensive line.
IF we solve our second half offense, we will shock a ton of people.
Posted by: Go Canes | June 03, 2015 at 09:12 PM
Agreed. For the first time in a LONG time, the Canes have stability and depth over the entire roster. Think back to the last few years:
2008: Mostly freshmen starting, as the big 2008 signing class saw immediate playing time.
2009: Sophomores and freshmen make up the bulk of the starters
2010: Juniors and sophomores are the majority of starters, with a freshmen class whose impact is blunted.
2011: Seniors and juniors make are the starters. Sophomore impact is reduced due to all of the failures to qualify and transfers of the '10 class, while freshmen impact is limited due to the small size of the class.
2012: Freshmen represent an outsized presence, as what would have been a fairly strong senior class leaves instead for the NFL. Juniors and sophomore depth is muted due to factors mentioned in 2011. Which is why a JUCO ladden K-State manhandles us.
2013: Sophomores and freshmen make up the bulk of talent.
2014: Juniors, sophomores, and freshmen make up the bulk of talent, with a small cadre of highly talented seniors on top (Dorsett, Perryman, Walford).
2015: Four solid recruiting classes with low transfer and early departure rates yield relatively evenly distributed talent across the board.

So much for butch coming back to the U
Bring back Chud!!!
Posted by: Sinistercane | June 04, 2015 at 02:28 PM
I honestly don't know what the impact is going to be on Butcht, but it makes me laugh - so many wanted to fire Golden and then immediately hire Boich just a few months ago.
I honestly wonder how we would feel now had that wish come true? We'd be sweating bullets, not even knowing if our coach would even be here, i.e. Butch, and all the distractions for the upcoming season and all the effects to recruiting. It would've been another cloud, as much as people laugh at that, and yes it would have an impact. Yeah that would've been really good.
By definition we are all kind of crazy, think of the word fan, it comes from fanatic.
The lesson is, that's why the inmate don't run the asylum.
Hiring Butch was a really bad idea, not just now, but a few months ago, because this could have easily been foreseen, and WAS foreseen by many who were against his hiring.
He may be fully exonerated at some point in the future, who knows maybe he had nothing to do with it, but the fact remains it would've been a huge distraction for program that spent the previous 4 years with the biggest distractions of all.
Posted by: Lur-ker | June 04, 2015 at 03:04 PM
I don't see that Butch is implicated.

It doesn't matter if he was or wasn't.
Posted by: Go Canes | June 04, 2015 at 03:07 PM
From a CBS sports article:
"Notably absent from the allegations is the name of any football or men's basketball personnel. Roy Williams, John Bunting, Butch Davis and interim football coach Everett Withers were all interviewed in the enforcement committee's investigation, but none were named in the allegations."
Posted by: CaneRock | June 04, 2015 at 03:10 PM
Dispite all that Lurker, I'd still be more confident with Butch moving forward than with AG. But it looks like AG is making some changes (finally) this year and we'll see if Miami can reap the benefits in the W/L column. The truth is, both sides could be right in the whole argument.

We are in a very unique position, and we just can't take that kind of risk with Butch. Period.
I already said, he may very well be exonerated. But can we be 100% sure of that now? No. And his name will be associated with the scandal. That's just how the media works, that's just how people work. Again it would've been a very bad idea a few months ago when it seemed like everybody wanted it, just like it would be a bad idea now. There could still be more possible information, or links, that could come out, and even possibly more allegations, that MIGHT involve the coaches. Maybe the odds are very low, but we can't take that kind of risk. Again, inmates should not run the asylum.
