Talking about rainbow flag - Dixie flag is a whole other issue. I personally don't like it one bit, and am somewhat offended by it, but I also understand the historical implications.

41.7 million blacks in the US according to the census, let's say all of them are offended deeply by the confederate flag. Now let's take the US's 318 million people and times that by the 71% (Pew) of Americans that define themselves as Christians. That's 225 million people. Let's assume half of Christians think that the gay pride flag offensive because it celebrates what constitutes as a sin (in their religious opinion.) That's over 100 million Americans that are offended, roughly 1/3 of America. Again, government needs to not promote anyone over another, this is where IMO, liberalism goes to far.

We learn from our big mistakes through history, and it now a lot of schools are starting to abolish teaching history, which I think it's a big mistake!! We have to learn from our past to prosper into the fu ture!!

Dude, while your argument sounds rational, it's nothing but shit baked inside a pie. The outside looks good, but the inside, not so much. Before I get blindsided with the almighty 'everyone has their opinion' jab, I will remind U that majority of Americans believed in segregation when the civil rights bill was passed. Majority of Americans belived slavery was ok when lincoln took on the south. The civil war was really to reign in southern rebels more than it was to help black people. So there goes your idea of most Christian Americans been against the pride flag. Once upon a time, most Americans were also against black people.
Now, it is the right place of a seating us president to show support for different groups, who are not, when that support is called for. So if the president shows support for Muslims on their holidays, is that wrong because Americans r islamophobs too. It was a big win with the SCOTUS & it's pride week. The White House congratulated them by lighting up the colors. Why don't u ask native Indians how much the American flag bothers them too. Would u take their feeling into consideration too.
Dude (literal name) , lighten up. The colors are nothing more than a salute to an interest group that just won a major ruling on their special day. If u cant stand them then y recognize that they have rights like every other people. Your argument leaves U looking like a hypocrite.

What's good Legion/Canespace? Must be the "Dog Days of Summer" because the primary topics on this blog appear to be centered around Race, Religion and Politics. I say it's time to vote back UMike on the island/blog; at least his discussions/disagreements were based on University of Miami athletic. Just my take.

### Though some at UM are cautiously hopeful a joint MLS/Hurricanes football stadium at Marlins Park can get done, another high-ranking UM official said he’s skeptical of this happening because of political landmines; the city of Miami and Miami-Dade County both own some land on the site, as do several private property owners, according to local political officials.
David Beckham’s group would like UM to contribute toward stadium construction for that proposed 40,000 seat-stadium at Marlins Park and UM hasn’t ruled that out.
But even though Donna Shalala and UM raised $3 billion in donations before she left Miami at the end of May, a high-level Trustee cautioned that many donors gave that money believing it would be used toward academics. Therein lies the rub in the Board of Trustees and new president re-allocating any of it.
Barring a change of heart, we hear Stephen Ross isn’t inclined to let UM out of its Sun Life Stadium lease without a buyout payment. Dolphins Stadium officials were taken aback and not pleased when Shalala openly pined for a new stadium in an interview with The Associated Press before her departure.
The initial Beckham stadium proposal for that Marlins Park site would permanently require closing 16th Street. The group’s vision is to use the Marlins Park garages for parking for UM football and MLS games. But there wouldn’t be nearly as much tailgating space as Sun Life Stadium offers.

That writer just likes to stir up the stadium pot with his "unnamed sources". I have to laugh at his "some at UM" are hopeful of a joint MLS stadium. He doesn't even say "highly ranked" or "BOT" or even "athletic dept." he just says "some". Like who? The assistant groundskeeper? The lady that takes the ticket? A student intern? Sorry, the "some" business sounds like Fantasyland.
Then he DOES say a "high ranking" official is skeptical. Sounds like he's walking back prior articles that sounded more optimistic about this happening. Because it's not happening,
I don't know a single person that actually attends games that wants to go to downtown Miami, to tailgate in a parking garage, to roast in a crappy bare-bones undersized 40k concrete stadium with minimal amenities, that's shared with a 4th tier MLS team that nobody cares about, so that we can say "it's our own". And then to fight nightmare traffic when 40 thousand people try to exit parking garages at the dame time through narrow downtown surface streets.
Ain't happening, and Barry's known it all along.
Any thoughts?
Anybody know any season ticket holders that are in favor of this? Because I'm one that is not.

Lur-ker U are spot on. I totally agree.
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | June 28, 2015 at 01:42 PM
Beckham & UM are in the same spots.
Posted by: CaneRock | June 28, 2015 at 02:02 PM
TS, you and I are thinking the same here. In addition to all the other downsides, we like our comfort.
I know you go to several games. How easy is it, even when it's a sellout like FSU, to park, tailgate, and just walk right on in. Hell, if it's roasting, we head to the concourse for a nice breeze and a cold one. Good seats, nice beer (yes I know it's overpriced) good tailgating, good parking (even if overpriced), cheap tickets, convenient in and out, and next year an open roof cover.
Who wants to go to a risky dink stadium that more than likely WILL NOT SERVE ALCOHOL if UM owns a part of it, adding in all the other negative factors in my previous post.
Also remember, the new layout will give better home field atmosphere with the seats angled in and closer to the field. Louder, too, especially when that roof goes on in 2016.
Posted by: Lur-ker | June 28, 2015 at 02:18 PM
Seriously, do any other school's BOTs seem as dysfunctional as ours when it comes to football?
Posted by: CaneRock | June 28, 2015 at 02:20 PM
Miami fans and admin need to give the new stadium a chance.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | June 28, 2015 at 02:35 PM

Posted by: Lur-ker | June 28, 2015 at 02:48 PM
^^^ sunlife sorry.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | June 28, 2015 at 02:53 PM
Since it will essentially be a new stadium.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | June 28, 2015 at 02:53 PM
Got it. Believe me the people who actually go to games, are fine with the new SLS. They're not the ones moaning about getting a new stadium. Why would they be, it'll be way better than it was, and will get even better next year. You'll notice on social media, the vast majority of the biggest complainers don't go to games.
Look Dude, if the canes stop blowing games they should have won, and start winning even more, the stadium will fill up nicely, with the possible exception of the throwaway games like Bethune Cookman. Not sell outs every time, because even when we were champs we never had that, but waaaay better attendance.
The bottom line now is getting where we need to be. Either it starts happening this year or there'll be changes, but this is too great a program, with too great a tradition and brand, in too fertile a recruiting area, to not get back to winning. It better start happening this year. I think/hope it will.
Posted by: Lur-ker | June 28, 2015 at 03:03 PM
^^^ I agree that Miami has too many natural advantages to not be great, it's just mind blowing how long it's been since Miami has been any good... it's almost as if they're trying to suck. Hopefully switching to the 1 gap line makes Miami's defense dynamic and Coley finally coaches the O at an elite level.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | June 28, 2015 at 03:19 PM
Bad coaching can screw any program. I have little confidence that Al is a quality coach at this point. Year 4 was a fireable offense, 6-7 with the best team in the coastal was inexcusable. He really needs to overachieve this year to make up for last year's awfulness. 10 wins, a bowl win, ACC CG, etc.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | June 28, 2015 at 03:23 PM
There you go again...the people that don't go to games aren't "moaning" either.
Posted by: CaneRock | June 28, 2015 at 04:05 PM
TD...these cats can't even run their patented 1-Gap crap, makes you think they can run a 1-Gap?
Posted by: CaneRock | June 28, 2015 at 04:06 PM
^*their patented 2-Gap crap*
Posted by: CaneRock | June 28, 2015 at 04:07 PM
CaneRock because it is less demanding to ask a player to attack and control a single gap as opposed to being responsible for 2. Is it guaranteed to work? No but it is a step in the more aggressive direction many have been clamoring for.
Posted by: fmcane | June 28, 2015 at 04:17 PM
Lur-ker on point total agreement!
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | June 28, 2015 at 04:42 PM
If any proponent of this supposed move can show me a single private university, scratch that, ANY university playing in a stadium that size fielding a consistent winner I'll understand where they're coming from.
Until then, I'll stick to Sun Life.

There you go again...the people that don't go to games aren't "moaning" either.
Posted by: CaneRock | June 28, 2015 at 04:05 PM
Wow!
Understand this, and I'll state it as clearly as I can. I'm saying the majority of "fans" that don't attend games DONT complain about the stadium and attendance, etc. But, that the majority of complainers (on social media/Internet/blogs about the stadium) are people that DON'T go to games. Based on my experience. See the difference?
In my opinion, if you don't go to games, you have no standing in terms of your opinion about a stadium or about attendance. I mean, what are these people's complaints about, they don't go to games anyway. What I'm saying is, I have no respect for those opinions.
Posted by: Lur-ker | June 28, 2015 at 04:51 PM
Boise State plays in Albertson's Stadium, 36,000 seats. Boston College, Stanford and Baylor play in the 45k to 50k range. 40k is what the Military Academies play in front of.

So to answer you question Go Canes. Boise State fields a consistent winner and plays in a sub 40k stadium.

Here's a thread on CIS about the stadium, seems pro SLS to me:

I can't consider Boise, a non Power 5 conference team a legit power.
They may win a big game every now and then, but their schedule overall pales next to real big time program.

.... and they're in freaking Boise, Idaho out in the middle of nowhere with a population of 200,000 in a state that's the 40th least populated with only about 1.5 million, and they could still probably get another 10,000 in there. Loyal fan base in the middle of nowhere.
My takeaway is their stadium too small if that's the actual size. Also, BSU has only been something for the last 15 years, before that, they were a nothing program,
