Losing to the Florida Gators once at the College World Series was bad enough.
Losing to them twice in embarrassing fashion is completely unacceptable.
The Gators beat the Hurricanes twice in the 2015 CWS by a score of 25-5.
That is ridiculous, and shameful, and humiliating and even embarrassing.
The question is: What needs fixing and how should UM fix it?

Good to read. How many times did we lose 2 - 4 players a year due to failure to qualify?
Posted by: TonyCane | June 21, 2015 at 03:40 PM
It's definitely happened to us in the past. I think almost every top school loses people due to the academics, maybe not every single year, but they do lose them on a pretty regular basis.
Thankful we got everybody in this year, though.

Oh and Mark Walton may not make us forget about the Duke, but he's going to definitely push the other two guys. I think he'll be getting a lot of playing time by the end of the year. Watch out for this kid.

As far as a pure RB, I think Walton may be better than Duke coming outta HS. Now will He have the same, or better impact that Duke had His freshman year...TBD.

Reading that article, the OLine concerns me. There's talent there, but I don't see much cohesion in terms of experience together. Kehoe's gonna have to earn that paycheck this year.
Posted by: CaneRock | June 22, 2015 at 02:25 PM
As far as the iffy run game that's mentioned in that article, it could've been because teams were stackin' the box, and daring Kaaya to beat em'.
You can run the ball with 7-8 in the box... but when they start loadin' that sucka up with 9-10 defenders, you better be able to CHUNK IT!
Posted by: CaneRock | June 22, 2015 at 02:35 PM
The secondary is only going to be good if we can get some consistent pressure on the QB. We have talent in the secondary, our LB's are going to be a big question mark, as well as our interior. We have some talent at DE.
O-line will probably be up and down, because most of our talent is young and relatively inexperienced. We have the backs, the Wr's to excel on Offense. The TE position is a bit of a Concern. As long as we go balls to the wall, we should be okay but if we start that BS, playing not to lose, then at times it could get ugly.

Agree with the article on the 3-4 & 5-2 starts...but I disagree on the 4-3 start. I don't see Golden surviving an 8-4...NO signature win...NO ACCC...NO bowl win season. Especially if FSU opens the gap on & off the field in recruiting.

Damn good #s for a 209 pounder:
Jamal Carter
From Rotoworld.
Canes S Carter possesses superhuman strength
Miami junior S Jamal Carter lifts a combined 1,233 pounds between the bench press, squat and power clean.
Seeing as though he only weighs 209 pounds, the strength is noteworthy. Carter began his career as a special teamer and then had 21 tackles and five pass breakups as a backup last year. He should see the field far more often this fall.

Mark & Al are finally listening to sound criticism and are switching to a 1 gap front. I expect the LBs and DBs to play much better based solely on the fact that the opposing QB will have to make faster decisions and the RBs might have a dude change their line. Hopefully Brad, James Coley and the OL get better by practicing against a more aggressive front. I'm a Miami Hurricanes fan. I only am because dominance is a birthright for The U. I'll expect and accept nothing less. 12-0 is as realistic next year as Miami could have been last year. P.S. Tell your family how much you love them. You never know when they won't be there anymore. Seriously, tell someone you love how much you love them today.

^^^ I agree. Seems like all it ever was was a F-U to the civil rights movement. My Dad's great-great grandfather was in a cavalry regiment from Tennessee. We have his saber, carbine, musket, flag and a few hundred dollars in Confederate money. Now we are a multi-cultural family with blacks, whites, asians and hispanics. We treat these things like historical artifacts. I disagree that the notion that the Civil War was a war over slavery though. An overwhelming majority of people who fought for the CSA didn't own slaves, and as you probably know, Northern whites were mostly very racist. While slavery was a key issue, the war was based on who should decide the future of the American people, the States or the Feds. In Argentina they had similar problems, except the Feds paid the slave owners for their slaves.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | June 22, 2015 at 06:34 PM
I guess the bottom line is that the Confederate flag has different meanings for different people, but I agree that it became a symbol of hate, meant to remind blacks of slavery. It doesn't give me strong feelings one way or another. The American flag could be considered just as offensive to some groups, hower racist groups haven't mainstreamed it's use for hateful purposes. Like these new nazi flags. They aren't really the swastika, which is banned, but they are the swastika too.

I believe...To wealthy slave owners the war was definitely about slavery. Free labor was the corner stone of our great nation. (Check all of our founding father except John Adams.
But, the rich couldn't say to the poor.. "we need to fight-cause those Yankee's are going to cut into my profits"..
But, if you say that those Yankee's are trying to tell me\you how to live, you have something the poor can fight for.
I do respect sincere opinions, even those that differ from my own.
Posted by: trianglecane | June 22, 2015 at 09:16 PM
^^^ many poor people relied on a slave economy also.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | June 22, 2015 at 09:18 PM
I understand TD.
6 of the 10 riches people pre civil war were slave owners from SC.
So I agree that slavery was interwoven into the southern economy. that being said I believe that the war was to keep slavery legal.

For those who really want to understand what the Civil War was about, and truly understand what the meaning of the Emancipation Proclamation was (it was war, and it was a message to create havoc in certain states):
Abraham Lincoln
The Emancipation Proclamation 1863
Context
On Jan. 1, 1863, U.S. President Abraham Lincoln declared free all slaves residing in territory in rebellion against the federal government. This Emancipation Proclamation actually freed few people. It did not apply to slaves in border states fighting on the Union side; nor did it affect slaves in southern areas already under Union control. Naturally, the states in rebellion did not act on Lincoln's order. But the proclamation did show Americans-- and the world--that the civil war was now being fought to end slavery.
Lincoln had been reluctant to come to this position. A believer in white supremacy, he initially viewed the war only in terms of preserving the Union. As pressure for abolition mounted in Congress and the country, however, Lincoln became more sympathetic to the idea. On Sept. 22, 1862, he issued a preliminary proclamation announcing that emancipation would become effective on Jan. 1, 1863, in those states still in rebellion. Although the Emancipation Proclamation did not end slavery in America--this was achieved by the passage of the 13TH Amendment to the Constitution on Dec. 18, 1865--it did make that accomplishment a basic war goal and a virtual certainty.

Let's get some facts straight about slavery in America...
First of all, the first slaves in the AMERICAN COLONIES were actually Europeans...but back then-as most of you should know-they weren't called slaves, they were called indentured servants.
Secondly, the first Africans that arrived on the AMERICAN COLONIES, were NOT slaves, they were ALSO indentured servants. Matter of fact, it's been said that you couldn't tell the difference between a European or African indentured servant. Believe it or not, half the former indentured Africans in Jamestown, were married to white women.
Lastly, before the first European arrived in America, Native Americans practiced some forms of slavery with POWs. Although it wasn't nearly as brutal in what would later be called plantation or chattel slavery.
