The 2015 spiny lobster season opens with the two-day recreational sport season July 29 and 30, followed by the regular commercial and recreational lobster season, which starts Aug. 6 and runs through March 31.
In addition, this year, divers have an incentive to remove some invasive lionfish while they’re in the water. Divers can take one extra spiny lobster each day during the two-day sport season if they also harvest 10 or more lionfish first, on the same day.
No one wants a small lobster for dinner. Make sure you check the size. Measuring devices are required, and lobsters must be measured while they are in the water. If the carapace length is not larger than 3 inches, it must be left in the water (see image on how to measure spiny lobster).
To protect the next generation and your future chances to have lobster for dinner, harvest of egg-bearing females is prohibited. Lobsters have hundreds of thousands of eggs that are easily visible and attached under the tail. While most lobsters have completed reproduction by the start of the fishing season, finding lobsters with eggs is common in July and August.
Bring a cooler big enough to hold the entire lobster. Spiny lobsters must remain in whole condition until they are brought to shore. Also, do not take spiny lobster with any device that might puncture, penetrate or crush its shell.
Stick to the bag and possession limits so there will be enough lobsters for all your friends and family. During the two-day spiny lobster sport season, recreational divers and snorkelers can take up to six lobsters per person daily in Monroe County and Biscayne National Park waters or seven lobsters if they take at least 10 lionfish first that same day.
In other Florida waters, they can take 12 lobsters per person day or 13 if they first take at least 10 lionfish on that same day. You may possess no more than the daily bag limit of lobsters when you are on the water. When you are off the water, you may possess no more than the daily bag limit on the first day of the sport season and no more than double the daily bag limit on the second day.
Then, melt the butter!
Love me some lobster.
Heading for the Bahamas the first week of August to catch our share!

I cooked lobster for the first time last Valentines Day and was shocked at how easy it was. Seriously broil it until it turns red and add butter. Now we cook it up on a regular basis and pay a quarter of what it costs at a restaurant.

Going back and forth with my expectation of Golden for 2015, at first I said win the Coastal but I believe it time to win the ACC . Just my opinion
Posted by: SinisterCane | July 28, 2015 at 08:07 PM
^^^ I almost agree. For me, it's the ABCs. A) Win the Coastal. This is no doubt a bare minimum expectation at Miami. B) Win 10 games. To me this will finally exceed expectations. C) Win a bowl. We've got to finish some year on a positive note.
Clemson might be really good, maybe better and more talented than Miami. The real test will be if the team tunes Al out at the first sign of trouble. The team needs to improve and be wicked good at the end of the season. It has all the potential to be. Al needs to blow some teams out and dominate Nebraska so that there is some faith early in him, otherwise... toxic, toxic, toxic, death spiral, death spiral, death spiral.
Posted by: Dude on a Pale Horse | July 28, 2015 at 09:21 PM
If he isn't #1 in the coastal at the end of the season with a top 10 ranking he should be gone. Expectations shouldn't be lowered. It's been 5 years, this isn't year 2 after a "ncaa mess" nahh man. This is a performance based job. Perform or be gone

It's hard to come up with realistic expectations, or even goals, because I am not sure what we have talent wise. I feel like deciding on a win total now would be based on the 2014 team.... And that wouldn't be a fair basis on which to judge Al.
Rather than throw out an arbitrary number of wins needed for Al to keep his job, I would prefer to judge him based on what we see on gamedays. If the record isn't where we want it to be, but we see significant improvement in terms of game planning, adjustments etc I might be OK with Al getting another year.
Nobody has less confidence in Al than I do, but if it appears he is turning a corner then it might be foolish to let him go. A new staff will set us back another 3-4 years. So I guess what I'm trying to say is whatever our record turns out to be, if we can look back on the season and say we were beaten by better more talented teams, and Al &Co. Used their players correctly, the he should stay.
Besides, the thought of BJ picking our new coach scares the hell out of me.

No. Please. They saw him for what he was, which was a little twerp jocksniffer and hanger-on. He was tolerated because the perception was that he had deep pockets. It's been written about numerous times. Think about it. He was 5-6, effeminate, looked like he had never played sports, culturally 180 degrees away from all the players. The players found him creepy and gross.
As a matter of fact, it was only a handful of players that had any kind of contact with him at all. He really didn't have any kind of football or leadership influence at all on the players.
If you could show me where you found that info about how that little sissy hoe could undermine any coach with actual players, I'd love to see it. Just not credible. Athletes don't fall for BS like that from guys like him.
Posted by: Lur-ker | July 28, 2015 at 11:39 PM
^^^ you don't think the parties and sh*t he provided undermined what the coaches were trying to do? What about Randy trying to make the team follow his leadership and Nevin sucking players into his circle?

Very, very well said. Agree with all of it.
I want the team to beat the team's they're supposed to beat in the way they're supposed to beat them. If they're fiat in any of those games, win anyway.
I want them to play like they did against FSU in every big game. And if they fall short, never allow it to carry over to the next game.
If at the end that means 12-0, that's great. If it's 9-3 but the team played hard every week and were put in a position to succeed, that's ok too.
Change for the sake of change is never good. Let's enjoy the season and hopefully watch this group of young Canes blossom.

Looks like one of the slain military staff here in Chattanooga was a Canes fan...
FORT OGLETHORPE — Through the first stanza, the woman in the dark blue dress was perfect. Then, just for a second Tuesday afternoon, Angie Smith's voice broke.
"There's truth in your eyes," she sang, "sayin' you'll never leave me."
Years ago, before the marriage and the three daughters and the move to Chattanooga, she met a man at a karaoke joint named Randall Smith. He was young, and he was smitten. He told friends he was going to marry her. And when she took the stage to cover "When You Say Nothing At All" that night, he watched her.
And when she reached that line, the same one she approached on Tuesday, Smith hopped up for a call and response.
"I'll never leave you!" he yelled.
But on July 16, when a Hixson man whom the FBI describes as a "homegrown extremist" attacked the U.S. Naval and Marine Reserve Center on Amnicola Highway, the gunman fatally wounded 26-year-old Smith. A U.S. Navy petty officer, Smith was one of five military servicemen to die because of the attack.
On Tuesday, friends, family, police officers, military personnel and elected officials gathered at First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe for Smith's funeral. They filled seats on two floors and listened to stories about Smith.
They heard how he loved Duke basketball, Miami Hurricanes football and Houston Astros baseball. They heard about his career on the mound, how he pitched at his high school in Paulding, Ohio, then at Defiance College.

Dude, again, Shapiro having a major effect on the players from a football perspective does not make any sense and there's nothing that would indicate he did. The players were looking for a party. They would have found one with or without Shapiro. It would have just been out of their pocket without Shapiro. I don't know if you've been around football and athletics that much, but athletes generally ignore what coaches tell them, at least 70% or more, when it has to do with off-field activities. There are always a few on the team that are the Boy Scouts, but the rest of them, they like to party and have fun. So coaches say stay away from certain type girls, stay away from this fraternity, don't go to this pub, don't drink too much, most of them do what they want . They might not the night before a game. But it's college. They're doing all kinds of stuff they're not supposed to.
Yes, Randy warned players to stay away from him once or twice I'm sure, but the little midget hooked them up with the parties. That's all he was good for. Other than the fact that he's a stoolie and stole billions, he's no different than all the other fat ass boosters that every team in the SEC has dozens of. Miami basically had this one sub-human cockroach. Alabama has dozens of guys with millions of dollars that just hang around the program and hang around the players. They're not having a negative, when it comes to actual football impact, trust me on that. It's common sense.
The SEC and FSU are booster heavy, boosters are jock sniffer's and disgusting hangers on that the players basically hate, but they tolerate them for their $$$. That's it. They have no impact on the actual football. Look at the records for Alabama and the rest of the SEC. Schapiro was nothing more than that, from the players perspective.
Posted by: Lur-ker | July 29, 2015 at 09:18 AM
It's funny that I say all this, because I'm a booster myself, but like most mature adults, I don't feel the need to hang around and party with kids more than half my age. Not all boosters are like that. But every program has starstruck jock sniffers, it's just that in other schools and that other programs, like the SEC, they know how keep their mouth shut
Posted by: Lur-ker | July 29, 2015 at 09:21 AM
Where is your proof Randy only told them "once or twice"? Where is your proof players were looking for a party? Where is your proof boosters have no impact on football?
Unless you can provide some sort of documentation or information proving these things, then you're just passing on rumors.

Those are ridiculous questions.
Nice try.
It's common sense. And experience.
First, I've never seen a single quote that Randy was constantly warning about Shapiro. The articles I read, and granite this was several years ago, mentioned that he won the players. But it didn't say anything about him constantly wanting the players. Commonsense states that he probably got the team together and said once or twice these are the guys to stay away from, most conversations between coaches and players are about football
I need proof that college football players are looking for party? You're destroying with that question. Ever been to college?
And boosters don't have an impact on the football side of the equation, just the funding side.
If their impact on the football side was so strong, just look at my SEC example. Does anybody have more money need boosters then say Alabama, Florida, and a bunch of other SEC schools. They sure are having a negative impact there now aren't they. If anything it's a positive impact. Having guys with bags of cash hanging around your program makes recruiting easier.

FSU's biggest draw is not the booster culture, it's having FAMU in the same city. There are literally thousands of African-American Women a short drive away.
That is a natural draw Friday prospective football player.
At the big schools, I seriously doubt any big time booster wants to hang out with the players. They are there for the hundred dollar handshakes and can't meals all over town.
