Took a minute to look at what people were saying during summer camp a year ago:
Re: Trayone Gray
Blustein Recruiting @larryblustein 25m
@smillerdegnan wait until he gets in full gear. The kid is the best athlete on the team. He can play 6 positions and return kicks!
Barry:
### Though he might not be needed much as a receiver this year because of UM's depth and experience at the position, it’s encouraging to see freshman Braxton Berrios make a strong comeback from an ACL injury. Berrios has made several plays during the first two days of camp, including taking a screen for 15 yards and running 20 yards on an end-around.

@ChristyChirinos: #Canes OC James Coley said it seems at times like Brad Kaaya is 30...mature, not making freshman mistakes.
@DavidFurones90: Heaps with a 99-yard TD deep over middle to Malcolm Lewis. Two standouts in fall camp for #Canes
@TitoBenach: Just spoke with #Canes Commit Mark Walton, says he will know on Monday officially whether he will be apart of the 2015 class or 2016 class.
@TitoBenach: Also said he's 100% committed to Miami and was at a loss for words by the Hire of Coach Ice Harris as the RB coach.
The Work 8-9: Fall Camp Edition
**Starting with the position that has everybody's attention, it is apparent that this is a two-man race between Jake Heaps and Brad Kaaya, which is not necessarily a surprise. The surprise has been Kaaya jumping out to what some believe to be a lead for him in the competition. As I have said for some time, Miami was going to give Kaaya a legitimate opportunity to win this job and so far he has seized the chance. There is no doubt that Kaaya is the most physically talented quarterback on the roster, but his exceptional pocket presence at this stage of his career is what has caught people by surprise. His command of the offense has also been a major part of his early success. By no means has Kaaya won the job yet, but he could be on his way to doing that if he keeps it up. Heaps has not been "bad" as some reports suggest, but Kaaya has just been flashing more ability than him, while being more consistent as well.
**One of the top things that has stood out early in camp is the team speed on the defensive side of the ball. "The defense is freakishly fast right now," a source said. The versatility and speed and linebacker and safety will give Mark D'Onofrio more creativity than the last 3 years.
**Coaches are absolutely thrilled by the depth and progress of the safety position. This is the deepest they have been since 01-04. Marques Gayot has carried over his summer performances and continues to impress. "He's a killer," said source. Dallas Crawford is also picking up where he left off in the spring and will be a nice piece for D'Onofrio.
**The Booker T. Washington freshman duo of Chad Thomas and Demetrius Jackson has lived up to any and all expectations that were had of them before camp. Chad Thomas is blowing coaches away through week 1. I would not be surprised to see him start come the Louisville game. Demetrius Jackson is ready to contribute as well. He is up near 240 and has retained his explosive ability that got Miami excited in the first place. He will most likely see the field situationally this year and has potential on special teams as well.
**Rashawn Scott and Malcolm Lewis are two receivers that have shined this week, which is a very good sign for this offense. Scott seems locked in and is in the best physical shape of his career at Miami. He is up in weight from last season and carrying it very well. Lewis is 100% back from his ankle injury and has probably been the best WR from the 1st week. Braxton Berrios will not be redshirted. James Coley will get him involved. Great week for him with several highlight plays.
**There was talk back in the Spring about Juwon Young being physically ready, but not having it upstairs yet. It seems like he has already improved upon his spring and looks adjusted to the tempo of the college game. Darrion Owens is building on his strong spring as well.
**There was a rumor before camp began that Anthony Chickillo had a serious foot injury, but if that is the case then it is not showing. He has been excellent. A consistent year from him would do wonders for this defense.
**Standish Dobard appears slimmed down and has been impressive catching the ball. Would not be surprised to see him on the field more than Sandland this season opposite Walford.
**Trayone Gray is every bit of the 220 that he weighed in at. Miami got a huge steal with him. He has worked primarily with the running backs. His hands are not consistent enough right now, but when he has touched the ball he has shown his special ability.
**Quick recruiting note - Carlton Davis will be announcing his decision on Tuesday night on the SFHSSPORTS Gridiron Report on 560 WQAM, the same show that Sam Bruce chose the Canes on. Miami has been on the physical DB hard and is one of the staff's favorite prospects this cycle. Miami has a good shot here. He is choosing between the Canes, Ohio State, and South Carolina.

Hot seat rankings: Which coaches are feeling the heat in the 2015 season?
Tier 1: Flowing Lava
Tim Beckman, Illinois
(...)
Al Golden, Miami
It’s worth putting Golden’s mediocre tenure in Coral Gables in proper context. The former Temple coach inherited a team aching from NCAA troubles due to the Nevin Shapiro scandal. Golden still managed to tie for the Coastal Division title in 2012—Miami withdrew from bowl consideration due to the ongoing NCAA inquiry—and started 2013 with a 7–0 record. But the Hurricanes are 8–11 since with two straight bowl losses. Golden, who is 16–16 in ACC play with the ‘Canes, sent seven players from last year’s roster to the NFL draft. Now it’s time for him to produce with that kind of talent.

Why do we continue to post pictures of Lamar Thomas? He was one of my favorite Canes growing up! Even gave me a high five in the tunnel before the 1991 game at Iowa. But...
The guys is now a coach for a hated conference rival who has openly mocked the Canes and their fan base as well as negatively recruited against the this team!
No respect for Lamar! Ahhh hemm... George Teague.

Total team improvement better than worrying about some scheme set up. Smdh. I always laugh at the ones who act as if UM Football started in 1984 well in that case we don't have 5 rings we have 4. Furthermore we wouldn't have 4 we would have 3 since the 87 team was made up of guys recruited in 1983 but according to most on here if it's not Jimmy Johnson related it doesn't count. Love JJ but most on here love to discount and crap on Howard. Smdh. Not 86 and a few of us but U know who you are That only talk about 84 until 2010.

FSU had their team photo's the other day and they took one with Dalvin Cook in it and one without.
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | August 13, 2015 at 11:57 AM
It would be so easy to figure out what happen with the Dalvin Cook situation. If I were Jimbo, I would meet with every player individually who witness the incident. I would tell each one of them that they are no longer welcomed on the team, unless he tells the truth on what player punched the women. I would guarantee you would get the truth!!!!
Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | August 13, 2015 at 12:05 PM

Gotta skinny down to attack the gap. It looks like the coaches don't want to admit they've been flat wrong. I don't care if they don't, just make the correction, attack the ball and dominate.

Former Hurricanes Football Star Bennie Blades Gives Advice to Al Golden
Miami Hurricanes legend Bennie Blades isn't bailing on Al Golden, but he has specific concerns he wants to see the Canes coach address this season.
"A lot of times last year [players] were put in very uncomfortable situations," Blades told NBC 6.
Blades, a College Football Hall of Famer, and member of the 1987 National Championship team, says he had lunch with Golden and expressed his opinion.
"I love Coach Golden, love him as a person, but sometimes tough decisions have to be made," he said. "A lot of these guys are going off to the [NFL] and they're becoming all-pros and you wonder, 'man, why couldn't he do that at Miami?' but he wasn't put in that position."
Blades said he heard from a lot of Canes players who wanted to play a different style but told him "if I do it, coach is going to bench me."
"His whole thing is, these kids don't have the heart that we once had when we played in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's. my advice was 'hey look, the buck stops with him,'" Blades said.
One of the most frustrating situations for Blades during last year's 6-7 season involved defensive formations.
"When it's 3rd and 1 and these guys are still 15 yards deep, are you kidding me?" he said. "I don't care who you are, if you're a 10-year-old kid, you say 'man, what are you doing?' we gotta get back to playing real Hurricane football."
Blades also pointed to the 2nd half of the Florida State game. a game that Miami lost after leading by 16 points.
"You have 'em beat and then all of the sudden your game plan changes to where we're not aggressive anymore, we're sitting back," he said. "We as players question 'what are coaches doing?'"
Despite the concerns, Blades is excited about this upcoming season. He loves what he's seen from sophomore quarterback Brad Kaaya. In fact, He says He went to the spring game and did something out of the ordinary.
"I never take pictures with current guys. I had to take a picture with Brad Kaaya because he reminds me of a young Vinny Testeverde," he said.
Blades said Kaaya is "confident when He comes into the huddle. A confident quarterback can win games when most people think he can't."
Blades' biggest concerns about this year's Hurricanes are the inexperienced offensive and defensive lines. However, he has very high hopes for starting safety Deon Bush.
"I gave him my cell phone number. I told him I'll be at every game critiquing you," Blades said. "I think this kid can have a breakout year and he can be something special. I told his dad, 'I'm tired of going to the Jim Thorpe Award every year and there's not even a UM player invited.'"
Blades won the Jim Thorpe Award for the nation's best defensive back in 1987. He was a two-time college All-American, selected 3rd overall in the NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions where he became a Pro-Bowler in 1991.
