While South Floridians watch the constant updates on Tropical Storm Erika, the University of Miami has made contingency plans for its annual CanesFest fan celebration, scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday outside at Greentree Practice Field, Cobb Stadium and the UM Sports Hall of Fame.

If it rains, UM confirmed that the event will be considerably scaled down, and football players would sign autographs from 4 to 5 p.m. inside the Wellness Center’s “Centre Court” — one of the center’s indoor basketball courts.

Football coaches will sign autographs in the lobby of the Schwartz Center for Athletic Excellence.

Fans who want to get football autographs must pick up a voucher to gain access for the autograph session. In case of rain, vouchers will be distributed from 3-3:45 p.m. at the Wellness Center, 1241 Dickinson Drive, Coral Gables, 33146.

The UM Sports Hall of Fame, adjacent to the Hecht Athletic Center, still plans to remain open from 3 to 7 p.m.

If the weather is clear, the event will be held outside at Greentree Field, where autograph vouchers would be available from 3-3:45 p.m. In that case, the interactive games and other activities involving other UM sports would continue as usual.

Does Kaaya match, or exceed His numbers from last year?

I'd rather see STA vs Central...funny how STA plays BTW in a down year.

Serious question Tsully...

Who comes across as conservative to you... Golden or Coley???

SinisterCane

After 5 yrs we finally got rid of all those ME players now we can start winning

CaneRock

I did, good stuff from Beard, especially about Kaaya...but leadership is/was Golden's fault. Win or GTFO.

Go Canes

Article above is really great. Recommend giving it a read.

CaneRock

WWIN...OF COURSE! Coley handcuffed Golden. Hollin' bout' 4th down was His "money down"...kinda dumb $h!t is that LMAO! He might as well have said He wanted to average 3 YPC, and 1 YPC on 4th downs...FOH! with that NONSENSE! LMAO!

Golden stopped Coley I believe several times. Didn't open the playbook vs UL, stopped him from killing FSU when we had them beat going deep and over the middle.

If the defense was so good last year... why are we changing it???

The offense hurt us last year by being conservative... who do you think was responsible for that Coley or Golden???

SinisterCane

If Rutgers is available AL might bolt JMO

Jake Heaps threw 4 interceptions then NY Jets released him

The Jets held their final day of training camp at their Atlantic Health Jets Training Center. The Jets brought in QB journey Josh Johnson for a workout Thursday, and that might have spooked 4th string Jets QB Jake Heaps, out of the University of Miami and previously the No. 1 prep QB out of High School, as he got the infamous note to go see the coach to talk, turn in his key and locker. Even though Jake did not get that chance to start one game for UM in 2014, his body of work secured an extended look to make a 53-man NFL roster all the way to the final practice day of the 2015 of training. May the Heapster latch to a practice squad while continuing to work on his craft.

Georgia Tech - LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Destroyed Miss State in the Orange bowl game. Layed almost 50 on them.

The same Miss State that only lost 2 games, both 2 SEC opponents: Alabama, at their house, and only by 5 points, and Mississippi

Ended up 11-2

But GT sucks, though.

There's an eye test for ya.

LOL

Alex D

What's good Legion/Canespace? You want to solve this defensive problem; let these kids play Miami Dade/Broward football because that's what lead to them getting a scholarship. All the great Miami coaches recognized this. You can not have a Hurricane play like a rainstorm or monsoon. That's the true eyeball test. Just my take.

30CINCO

I think the "eye" test is turning into the "I" test. This is what "I" think, therefore it is.

UMike

Well spacers Im off to the shelter with the boys..hope all of you have a great and safe weekend. One more week fellas!

UMike

I dont agree. I respect your opinion on it, but I dont agree. No reason we shouldnt win the Coastal each and every year. We out recruit every team in that division and sit in the greatest talent pool in the country.

Go Canes

The eye test tells me the costal is just as good as most divisions out there.

It's shown the ability to compete on a national level.

UMike

Is still GT...we beat a "mighty" SEC team also and went on to lose to Duke, Virgina and bad VT team lol...just saying if GT is the team that is traditionally the favorite its a weak conference. They had a good year, but their still GT. Its like we have to lower out expectations because other schools had a good year or have improved some.

30CINCO

I mean, GT is the favorite..GT!! lol

They did win 11 games and beat up a "mighty" SEC team.

So is it the name on the helmet or is it their record?

laquinton

Man, I just hope and pray that Golden and D'No attack on defense instead of playing with the scheme and being bounced around by a simple gameplan. No reason why we shouldn't be a top 10 defense and look the part.

laquinton

I think the coastal is pretty weak. Atlantic has FSU and Clemson who always seems to win 10 games.

UMike

UMike | August 28, 2015 at 12:42 PM

Using stats are we? That team almost lost to lowly VT (save for a dropped two point conversion)

IMO the ACC and BIG16 are the weakest...but the Coastal is very weak imo. I mean, GT is the favorite..GT!! lol

http://thebiglead.com/2014/12/03/was-the-acc-the-nations-best-college-football-conference-in-2014/

I can find links (lol) saying the opposite. And for the record, I am not saying it is or isnt.

I just want to know what the criteria you or others who say that is. Is is win related, draft related, or is it the good ol eye test?

UMike

Our defense shouldn't be giving up no more than 10 points a game in the ACC....IMO

Posted by: thirstybuzzardcane | August 28, 2015 at 10:52 AM

Let me try a proper, civil reply. I don't think is realistic unless our scheme is heavily revamped and we are loaded with talent. Our D use to take pride in shut outs. Our D lead the country in 2001 only allowing 9 points a game, we will not have that type of talent or scheme any time soon.

UMike

Heres one article placing the ACC at the bottom of the Power 5...

http://athlonsports.com/magazines/2015-college-football-conference-power-rankings

Heres another...

http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/ranking-power-5-conferences-by-strength-of-coaches/

So if the ACC is considered by many the weakest among the Power 5 and the Coastal is weaker then that Atlantic, I would assume that means its one of the weakest divisions in the Power 5.

UMike

Do I really need to show criteria for this one? This is pretty common knowledge imo

30CINCO

UMike
TSully...the ACC isnt exactly great lol..but the Coastal is among the worst in the Power 5 divisions.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the talent we have in South Florida, YUP!!!!!!

UMike

thirsty...we got all conservative in the second half. And like we have seen way to often, the other team adjusted and we didnt. Game over.

UMike

I get your point, but I dont care what teams scored on other teams, especially out of conference teams or games two years ago. We play GT and Duke EVERY year, we know exactly what to expect. We out recruit them EVERY year. I'm not saying there is a point total we should be at, but we shouldn't be losing to those teams. I dont care what kind of Cinderella season Duke may have had, its an embarrassment for Miami to to lose to Duke.

thirstybuzzardcane

There were only five games (FSU (+11 Min), UNC (+11 Min), South Carolina (+2 Min), Duke (+4 Min, and VT (+15 Min)) where we won the Time of Possession battle and those are the games where are defense played well! I have no idea how we lost to FSU, especially when we had the ball 11 minutes longer!!!.....It's still mind boggling to me!!

Go Canes

But we have to hold them under 10?

Go Canes

Duke scored 31 on Arozona State in their last bowl and 48 on Texas A&M the year before.

Clemson dropped 40 and 35 on Ohio State and Oklahoma respectively in their last two bowls.

FSU hit Auburn up for 31 two years ago.

Georgia Tech torched Miss State for 49 last year.

Not sure if anyone listened to the Big O's last segment on WQAM. It was a very good listen. He was talking about how stats are overrated and the only way to judge something is by the eye.

thirstybuzzardcane

You also got to factor in that the ACC sucks!!!!.....If we are playing in the Pac-10, SEC, Big Twelve, I would guarantee our defense would give up 30 points a game!

My point is once a team does something with a lot of success, anything, we need to adjust.

Posted by: UMike | August 28, 2015 at 10:12 AM

And that's the point Duane Starks was making when He said they need to get better at situational football.

But what does He know right, He played here when FSU beat us 100-0. NEVER MIND! He was a CB for the 2000 Ravens, one of the best NFL defenses EVER!, but His opinion doesn't count because He played for UM in 97'....LMAO!

UMike...I don't remember a TE burning us consistently, they didn't have to, teams like Louisville,NU,GT, & Pitt just ran the ball down our throats.

UMike

All I know is if a TE is burning you for 1st downs on the same play all game..perhaps you need to make a change lol

CaneRock

And the defense 5 years ago was good enough to win us 10 games, what killed us that year was 26 INTs by the offense.

I tend to agree with you but not sure if you can be counted as one of the bloggers "who really knows football"

CaneRock

It's a DUM@$$ defense. Like I've said, a good double TE team is cryptonite to this defense. Case in point, NU, where we played the infamous "free man defense" LMAO! It would've been all good if that "free man" was an ST26,Bubba McDowell,Al Blades,Bennie Blades, Fred Marion...but no, our "free man" was get this...Fentress...LMAO!

Any defense that gives up a hat for a hat to funnel the ball to the likes of Fentress, is DOOMED! to fail...FAIL!

I think that was a big part of our struggles in games.

I see a total reversal of that the season. If that happens and our D can be as good or better than last year, which they should be, we are going to shock a lot of people.
